    Great review. On the battery compartment... They went from "so tight you can barely get the battery out" to "baby rattle loose"... but I think that was so you could use to 21700 5000mah battery pack with it ;) if you look closer at the battery compartment, you'll also see a cutout for the XT30 lead. And if we modelers can't figure out how to stop the rattle with a piece of foam, we shouldn't be in the hobby! 🤣 While I also wouldn't have minded the pots on the top for sound and brightness, at the same time I think we're expecting too much TX16S and starting to clutter an otherwise well spaced out layout.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery thing is an easy fix which begs the question why wasn't it fixed. As a reviewer if I don't call that type of thing out, I get called out.
      Controlling volume is just kludgy without a knob. I've used the firmware to work around this th-cam.com/video/NqL6yUOfNPU/w-d-xo.html but nothing beats a physical apparatus to control volume. Just an opinion though. I'm sure plenty of people get by on plenty of radios without using a knob.

    Charging and battery holder are minute issues. #1 While charging; even if the port was on the bottom, you would still lie it on the back. #2 Battery holder; just cut-off a custom piece of foam. Or use the sponge landing pads that you buy in a box.

    A couple of things not made completely clear John. I presume by the look of the socket internally that the trainer socket has been changed from that stupid 4-gang odd plug to a standard 3-gang audio plug compatible with FRSky, Spektrum etc? Also are the back mounted additional push buttons plugged in in place of an existing switch or into a spare socket on the board? If the latter, where?

    • @pfeerick
      @pfeerick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The momentary and latching buttons are for the TX16Smk2, not the TX12 ;) On the tx16smk2 there is a hole on the back that has a rubber stopper fitted, which you can remove to fit one of the switched, as well as extra sockets on the main board.

    To clarify, the max wattage for the ELRS module is 100mw. It's true that even at 100mw ELRS has great range, but the fact the that this limit was barely eluded to implies that RM and the reviewer(s) know that this limit is not very marketable.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just about everything you said is wrong.
      The max power is 250mw not 100mw.
      ELRS is so good even at 10mw I don't bother setting mine any higher than 100mw--especially for LOS. So even if the max were 100mw, it would be more than enough unless you plan on flying many many miles away.
      Is "barely eluded to" different than "directly shown" or are they the same thing because it was directly shown in this video.
      There is no conspiracy in place. 100mw is fine, and the module provides 250mw.

    • @pfeerick
      @pfeerick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is, is it? So why does my mk2 let me set it to 250mw? Lol. John just happen to stop at 100mw in the video, it's not the max! It would however be nice if RM actually mentioned the wattage on the store page.

    • @cgcgcg
      @cgcgcg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCVideoReviews My apologies for the implications. I was/am referring to 6:34 ~, where you go to 100mw and stop. Granted, at some point, I may have tuned out - squirrel!.. I really don't see where you said 250mw.
      10mw is OK for LOS, I use it often at the park. I'm not a math scientist, but my thought was/is higher MWs is better for penetration; like flying around parking garages, etc. No? I mean, what If I wanted to fly to the center of the Earth, would 250mw be enough?

    Comrade: I heard you weren't well, I'm relieved to see you back on the air & hope you are feeling better.
    I love that EdgeTX is already installed out of the gate. I currently have Jumper T18 & I'm wondering if the board inside the radio featured in this video would support a touchscreen mod upgrade as easily as my jumpert18, which was basically plug in the digitizer and desolder a coupe resistors off the board or if the touchscreen mod would be major surgery. On the jumper T18, touchscreen mod was a simple operation not unlike a vasectomy,: get a local anesthetic & of a couple snips, afterwards you can touch to your hearts content, but, iif the radiomaster isn't so easy we are looking at a heart transplant type operation and I'm sure the patient will expire on the table. Is there an expansion plug for a digitizer on the board for this radiomaster?

      No, there is no touchscreen support onboard, and even if there was, there is no software support for it *at all*. The t18 was possible because it was actually designed for that from the start (although jumper did botch the job - hence the resistor mod, which is why they didn't officially add touch support).

      @@pfeerick gracias, Peter. Took me quite a while to find anything helpful regarding why it didn't work right away when I plugged in the digitizer on my T18 jumper. I felt quite mislead as I thought the touchscreen was already ready already when I bought the thing & only awaiting software support:. I forget the exact wording but that's basically what the marketing wank read regarding touch support on the j T18. I likely would have pulled the trigger on the Radiomaster had I known at the time.
      Pity about this radio, but I bet subsequent touch radios from radiomaster will feature Edge out of the box & I'll get one of those. Thanks again

      "marketing wank" is spot on... They said something like "touch screen ready" (well as vague enough references you thought that like the TX16S it was just waiting software support) and were promising digitiser panel and "HD" display upgrades... neither of which eventuated.
