Mario looked at Vinny with Hyper-realistic eyes with blood gushing out of them and said "I AM GOD" and proceeded to swing his arms from side to side... Vincent Vinesauce was never the same
The words upon the gate you must hark Gaze upon the hellfire of the Mario Park Come inside and you will see The true meaning of destiny Not riches, gold or your dear Beth But the simple fact that is Death.
I wouldn't sweat it honestly, a couple of them were fairly long (though the one with keys and that weird blue lady was a bit much). We still got a shit ton of good out of what we saw. Really fun and interesting all around!
It's all good, I'm just happy you checked 'the (coronation day) at all. I would still recommend looking at the "final" ending on your own time at the very least. Ties the whole experience together, I'd say.
Remember that one time where Vinny accidentaly played the "I HATE YOU" hack during a corruption stockpile stream and thought the creepypasta content was made by the creator of the corruptions?
The “Mario” one is so interesting to me, because it’s not even meant to explicitly be a creepy romhack. It’s just meant to be odd, the original thread on the SMW Central forums was just one of the users (Admin, I think) going through the submitted rom hacks and documenting their playthrough of that one that was uploaded in specific. The original creator of the rom hack itself would later come forward, and he wasn’t even like. “Ooo, you like my spooky hack?” And was more like “Fuck yeah, I made that weird thing lmao”
Quick correction, the person that played throug the hack first and wrote the story we know now was the user "Adam", who wasn't a part of the moderation team at the time. He joined the mods at some point much later though, so that might be why you thought as much. I don't remember if he mentioned why he put so much effort into writing that for a random hack in the moderation queue, but he was on a bit of an art/writing spree so that might explain it. What you said about the hack's author isn't wrong, but I feel like a funny detail about them was that nigh everyone in the SMW scene disliked them cause they were kind of a bit of a dick to everyone for no reason. Adam regretted writing the story later because it made people think there's a relation between Adam and the MARIO creator even half a decade later, when the author had long been banned.
@@caesarpizza1338 if I recall correctly it was an album cover, but I'm actually unsure if that's anywhere close. It's been a while, but I definitely remember the image itself not being custom made for the project, only the very strange way it was hidden was custom.
still not a fan of the megaman health bars, though. something like getting rid of the majority of the hud at the top and replacing it with a life counter, like mario's in the game already, for mario on the left and luigi on the right would've been better in my opinion. that is, unless the writer specifically wrote megaman health bars.
Same thing happened to me when he opened the door right before that. The screen faded to black and went into a Fallout 76 ad where a vault door opens from a black screen, so it looked like Mario ended up in Fallout somehow. Super confusing for a couple of seconds until I realized it was an ad, lol.
Mario searching for his lost eyes sounds like the plot for a Super Mario Bros Super Show episode in a weird way, like: -Luigi! I'm blind! I can't see shit! -Mario! King Koopa used his Dark Magic to make your eyes disappear! We have to find a way to get them back! Or something around those lines.
Mario tears out Luigi's eyes pretty graphically as Luigi can be heard letting out this god awful blood curdling scream. Mario then puts the removed eyeballs into the soulless holes where his eyes once were, but it was soon after this that Mario committed suicide later on after witnessing what Luigi sees and a daily basis. We'll never know what he saw to this day and why he didn't just go to the doctor- ok, I'm done. This is so dumb as shit..
Considering how they literally went to the Fountain of Youth in that show, I don't think searching for a magical way to restore someone's eyes is farfetched.
Here's a couple explanations for the third and fourth hacks in this video: I HATE YOU was originally a story by notable creepypasta author Slimebeast, who I believe also wrote Russian Sleep Experiment. In the story, the narrator finds that keyhole to Oh God No after 100%-completing SMW way too many times. The level appears to be designed to be unbeatable, what with the unavoidable Banzai Bills and the Thwomp hallway. The narrator pauses when he sees the altered Banzai Bill and turns on an infinite-invincibility cheat in the emulator, which is why the hack does that automatically without warning. You might have recognized the figure in the boss room window as one of the creepy shadow people in that one skybox from Super Mario Galaxy 2, and that Luigi refers to Bowser as "Koopa." The narrator insists that he's been playing the exact same, _unaltered_ SMW rom and save file since he was a kid, and comes to the conclusion that this level was in the vanilla game the whole time, a vestigial remnant of a scrapped or unfound alternate plot in which Luigi is a villain, and the "Hell Valley Sky Tree" shadows would factor in in some way. Most people say Slimebeast wrote I HATE YOU as a jab at formulaic haunted-game creepypastas, but I'm not convinced. I've also heard that it was a genuine formulaic haunted-game creepypasta he wrote early in his career, then pulled the "it was a parody all along" card after Retsupurae renewed interest in it by making fun of it. You be the judge. MARIO has an interesting story behind it, but the hack itself is only part of it. It was originally posted to SMW Central by a new user named "M A R I O" with almost no explanation. In addition to the edited message blocks, Yoshi's introduction text says that Mario trapped him in the egg, not Koopa. The levels are devoid of enemies because Mario has already gone through the level and defeated all of them. It's implied that the "Mario" you're controlling isn't the real Mario (hence the duller colors on his clothes), and that Real-Mario is going to be the antagonist in some way. Apparently the hack was going to be released episodically per world (the single Donut Plains level might have been a teaser for the next part), but they had to stop the project soon after the first "chapter" due to IRL complications. The other side of the hack's story, hinted at by the message at Yoshi's House and the "Victim #1" text in the cutscene after beating the Koopaling, would have involved tracking a serial killer (presumably "M A R I O," the hack's in-universe creator). The notepad file included with the hack contains more coded text, which ultimately decodes into...a picture of Victim #1 post-mutilation.
@@jojobizadTRASH I was already a Retsupurae fan when they covered I HATE YOU, and the effort put into the sprite work made it stick in my memory. It's always struck me as too serious and detailed to be a joke, but too silly to be serious, if that makes sense. I just found out about MARIO from surfing TV Tropes. There weren't many creepypasta stories or ROM hacks with dedicated pages at the time.
The image included with MARIO is genuinely one of the most haunting images I've seen, and I think it scarred me as a child, because it STILL upsets me.
hold on, i remember the part about the victim's image being in the files but for some reason i'm remembering another picture? according to google its that red face but i thought it was someone on the ground and dead, idk if thats part of another spooky rom hack but i do remember a victim picture being associated with it
@@alt7837 You're probably thinking of the shitpost game Hong Kong '97, which includes a real dead body (taken from documentary footage) on its game over screen. The red face in Mario comes from a movie, though I don't remember any more details about it. That face was presumably chosen because it matches the description of the serial killer victim mentioned in the hack.
seeing the face image hidden in the "mario" romhack fucked up 11 year old me pretty hard, it was burnt into my vision for the next three nights. i still get a bit wigged out by it, saw it as a tf2 spray a few years ago and jumped at first
THANK YOU I was considering watching this to fall asleep to but when I saw "MARIO" in the list of romhacks, I wasn't sure if it was that one. So yeah fuck no I'll save this for tomorrow lol
I completely agree. The face on its own isn't even creepy, but its the back story which gets me. Even now, while Im not "scared" of it, I still don't want to look at it. It's similar to Jeff the killer in that regard.
For anyone who doesn't know, the "I Hate You" romhack is based on a Creepypasta of the same name and I highly recommend reading it because of how stupid and funny it is.
@@Mamaluigi13 Yeah, but it's not a very good joke. It's not all that clever, even! On the plus side, it led to a hilarious two-parter from the now-cancelled Bad Creepypasta web series. 😂
The black and white hack was probably my favorite, the atmosphere in that was surprisingly unsettling despite the eyeless Mario cliché. The delivery on it was spot-on and kind of makes me wish for a follow-up in some way. Really glad I managed to stop into the stream and see it.
OK, some of the dialogue boxes that Vinny got in the 'the' hack (aka 'Coronation Day') is stuff that I have not seen in ANY of the videos people have made covering all the secrets and endings to the hack. Leave it to Vinny to SOMEHOW manage to trigger stuff people haven't seen yet.
@Ice Bear Oh, I know that. It's just even the videos that chronicle "all" of the possible dialogue boxes and endings and how to get them didn't even find some of these.
I was trying to see what was listed at some points but I couldn't even see because super speed+mash went too fast for me, but yeah, haven't seen any of that. I also wouldn't trust anything that claims its found all dialogue because I'm fairly certain even when datamined, they still haven't found everything to that romhack yet, cause I think only a handful of people have managed to access the pink forest, and fewer still have a video of it
I strongly recommend people check out Coronation Day ('the) on their own. Its not something that is supposed to be showcased like this, and I expected Vinny wouldn't like it. The idea is essentially that its PT but done in Mario World; you loop over and over again and things change slightly. The idea is supposed to be that you repeat it over and over again, as the dialogue is fractured, with the idea that you're supposed to piece together the story. Don't look up videos until you have seen the endings vinny reached here for yourself, cause you'll see that other people who played it got different things than what you did, and how different it is
Turning a happy platformer game like Super Mario World into a horror game sounds too difficult to me so I respect these games because they succeed to a certain degree
Quite the range to have on one hand classic, pulpy 2013 Haunted Gaming shlock like “i hate you”; and on the other the artistic masterpiece of Coronation Day
He should stream a game where rewind is an intended mechanic. Like PoP Sands of Time, or Blinx. Surely he'll play the funny time control platformer cat game that runs like utter dogshite. Or the game where Robin Atkin Downes goes RAAAAAAAAAAARGH! every time he breaks a pot (the glitchiest one). Yeah. He should definitely play Warrior Within. That game will corrupt itself inside out by just Vinny staring at the game from 12 feet away. Behind a sheet of ballistic glass.
I came across the MARIO hack when I was way too young. Scared the shit out of me and the picture that goes along with it made me physically unable to sleep for a few days
So a little background on "I hate you" and "Mario" I hate you was a trollpasta made by slime beast, he was frustrated at the lack of quality in the creepypasta community most specifically the wiki. So he wrote a ironically bad creepypasta parodying the Godzilla nes story (by having screenshots) The Mario one was made for a super Mario world fan hacking site and would of gone unnoticed if one of the admins/mods hadn't decided to play some of the unfiltered mods out of boredom He noticed some weird text files and levels. He posted his findings immediately on the smw forums of said site It wasn't till later that another mod found out the jumbled text has some code that's actually a png file of a creepy red eyeless woman. Edit: So it turns out the game has like 5 other games and is part of an "arg" which it turns out was a huge troll by the creator who was 14 at the time Man creepypasta were a big part of my adolescence back in the early 2010s.
Crappy spooky spaghettis are SUCH a guilty pleasure of mine. They have just, this amazingly untainted atmosphere and charm to them, that even if they are a troll/sh*tpasta or the like, they still have that fun vibe to it that I adore. I legit enjoy listening to some of the classics like SOG or the like while writing/editing videos, since they do have that odd chill summer vibe.
@@ThierryWilliamson Same here I will never out grow them or get tired of them It's why I love the Super Mario 64 ai personalized thing to come out in 2020 Just felt like a return to those classic days of people buying into those spooky urban legends and rumors
@@ImmaLittlePip Honestly that silly boom in the Mario 64 stuff was SUCH a blessing. It made me so happy to see the return to form of what it in some way. I love gaming urban legends and stuff, and while we will never return QUITE to the PS2 and before days, we can still sometimes get a nice treat.
I still don't get the whole idea behind the MARIO romhack, I used to find the whole story of it so interesting back when it happened, but then it seems like no one bothered to look whether there was something else (or there just wasn't, apparently). I recall someone checking the rom in lunarmagic and the black screen would happen because the game crashes trying to load an undefined exit, so it was likely that there wasn't anything else of interest in the ROM. I still think that in the right mood, it's definitely one of the scariest ones out there just because of how unsettling it is - kinda like b3313 for Mario 64 but without going too much into the creepypasta tropes.
Of all the creepypastas I read as a kid, MARIO was one of the few to genuinely keep me up at night. The autopsy report in the castle end screen combined with that image is genuinely unnerving and makes your brain run wild.
'the (Coronation Day) is literally one of my favorite ROM hacks ever, and when I saw it in the thumbnail I knew I had to stop what I was doing and watch. Thank you for giving it the attention it deserves, and I recommend more people look into it since its extremely cryptic and hides a lot of its content. ^^
Played it for the first time the other day blind after seeing it hyped up online. What makes it so good in your opinion? I was extremely disappointed with it. It's unironically just a walking simulator, an extremely short one at that. After I finally got past the jumpscare boss (which was more frustrating than anything after the first time especially as you have to slowly walk through the same bullshit and extra screen everytime you die) and got to the ending I could only think "that's it?" . Then I look up the other endings online and you have to do a bunch of weird button combinations in specific spots to get them? How are you supposed to know that? Am I missing something here?
@@blueyosh43 It is a puzzle game meant to be played on an emulator and using the functions of an emulator. @@blueyosh43 A lot of the appeal (for me at least, but I'm sure others can agree) comes from that confusion and whole "trying to piece everything together" nature of it. I think that's the fun part about it and it's certainly not for everyone. The endings also sort of vaguely tie up everything into a cohesive story, but a lot of it is left for the player/viewers to come up with their own ideas on what in the fresh fuck is going on, haha.

@@graysongdl well, the Sonic.exe story makes specific mention that sonic has a laugh that "sounded an awful lot like that kefka guy from final fantasy 6" but I get your point
i wish vin showed the creepypasta face that was connected with the MARIO romhack, it's like the only notable thing from the story aside from the absurdity of it since no one actually knows if it's from anywhere or was just made for the pasta
People did find out shit recently. It's still a bit of a mystery where the exact origin is, but the image predates the pasta and was used in a 4chan ARG some dude made to promote their band called Common Man Down.
Okay that "I hate you" hack seems to have been updated, for one i know those dead Marios where a threat before, in fact i'm pretty sure back in the day a common complaint with this hack was it was frustratingly difficult, and also that weird mushroom when you touched it just jumpscared you with a million classic creepypasta scary faces which even when i was a child and was easily entertained i could tell it was cheap. That hack was definitely updated since the last time I saw people play it. Granted, you could argue that the fixes for them implemented maybe weren't the best fixes, but hey, at least the dev cared enough to adress these things. Also if i recall correctly, the creepypasta the hack was based on at least had the game in the story as an actual rom hack created by some supposedly twisted individual as opposed to the bog standard "Video game haunted by spirit" plot that only a handful of media have managed to make work unironically.
From what I understand the version of the I hate you hack you're thinking of is not actually a hack but its own game and the version Beanroot played is a Mario World hack recreation of that game. No idea if they're made by the same dev.
@@joyoustheta2773 oh, cause i was also going to say that some of these fixes felt like the dev originally thought everyone was going to love it, they complained about the infuriating difficulty and try-hard jumpscares and they felt so ashamed that they just said fuck it and gave you invincibility for the entire level until the boss.
@@sackfu7952 yeah you are totally thinking of the fan game version and not the rom hack version. Because after all the fan game version when Luigi was revealed as being the antagonist it was just all cutscene unlike the rom hack's version with an actual boss battle.
Hi Vinny, it’s British Vinny. This is very interesting stuff - despite Mario’s more recent incarnations, the earlier stuff was remarkably unsettling (intentionally or not). I got the first Super Mario in 1989, as a Christmas present when I’d just turned 5. I still get chills up my spine when I hear the sinister timbre of 1-2. Same with the Bowser music, which I think most people know has the same bass-line as Zelda: the difference being that the Bowser one induces panic, but the Zelda imbues one with a sense of loss and melancholia. Anyone agree?
Oh man, seeing the eyeless one made me really want to see Vinny playing OFF. I think he would like it if not by the theme, by it's music and weird ambients
53:05 The buzzy static here actually contains an image of text if you view a spectrogram of the sound. I only discovered it because I was accidentally recording audio in FL Studio after recording a portion of audio from earlier in the video that had some music slowed and reversed that I wanted to speed up and re-reverse. Must've somehow hit record when I was done. I was tweaking some compressor settings to make the quiet parts louder and loud parts quieter and just happened to look at the right time.
@@renakunisaki This particular portion of audio says "start anew where the light \start ar". It was cut off before it could finish printing the letter 'n', so it looks like an 'r'. It seems like it might just have repeated if the audio had continued.
The Mario creepypasta romhack is one of the very few I like. It feels like they actually tried. It was pretty morbid too without relying on obnoxious things. Plus you had to go out of your way to see something hidden that was really unsettlingly. Maybe Vinny will talk about it because I dont wanna spoil it. But it always catches people off guard.
I also kinda liked Eyeless because it had this weird uncomfortableness to it, in a good way. Mario is the only thing in color in this... weird... void that only contains the absence of color and having every color at once, in this weird never-ending ghost house-like level. After thinking more on it, I actually liked 'the / Coronation Day more.
For me “‘The” seems to have some potential. The vagueness and cryptic messages, the eerie atmosphere, and the unsettling glitchy textures at certain points. Do wanna see more from the creator since I feel they got the right idea for making neat horror media.
And ends up being better then 99 percent of the unironic ones. There were a couple good Pokémon ones, MARIO was decent, but the face kind of carries the story. But Nes Godzilla is still unmatched
@@Crackedcripple MARIO is the one replicated by a game in the video with the picture of what is supposedly a real corpse, right? also still excited for nes godzilla replay chapter 6, the writer has been working on it on and off for 6 years edit: wait, what if the creator is waiting for 6 years and 6 months to release chapter 6🤔
That’s a good one. Personal favorite was always Blood Whistle, with the guy who stabbed himself to death with a whistle after playing a spooky mario 3 hack

It gleamed with uncanny realism in the light of the blood whistle’s sign. After a brief pause he began to slice Mario’s chest open. Mario again braid that fearful cry that implied he would die only to endure torture ten times the magnitude.” Purple prose is the absolute funniest bad writing habit. That "I Hate You" end screen gave me a flashback to the Slowbeef's House of Horror readthrough of the creepypasta. "YOU'RE RUINING THE PICTURE, LUIGI."
Oh HELL YES. This is the sort of stuff I have been waiting for, and I am SO darn happy to see this. LOVE when Vinny plays horror games, especially when it's either a hack or related to Nintendo. It often brings out some of the best commentary/laughs, and I am looking forward to watching this! The fact that it's Super Marion World makes it all the better.
@@ImmaLittlePip I was JUST thinking the exact same thing honestly. It would make me SO happy, you have no idea. I was really hoping the 'Cursed Tendies' stream would become a series, but if THIS becomes a series, well, I would be MORE than happy.
Vinny’s Silent Hill streams are AMAZING to fall asleep to, and considering I used to fall asleep to Mutahar playing games like these I think I’m getting an amazing rest tonight. Spooky’s was also wonderful, chill enough to be some nice background audio and captivating enough in its own right. The creepy alien stories he’d tell just tied it all together for me.
Can't have a creepy SNES rom hack showcase of any kind without the good ol' Cave of the Past music. The rewind makes it even better. DEEEEEEEIIIIIRRRRRRDREEEEEE.... ...EEEEEERDRRRRRRIIIIIEEEEEEED
fun fact: the "i hate you" rom hack was based on a creepypasta that was intended to be bad, but the person who wrote it is so good at writing creepypastas that no one ever realized and thought it was just a fairly average creepypasta
dont know if its just me, but every year as autumn approaches, i get more and more excited about vinny's halloween content there's a special feel to it that just puts it above all of his other content, and his other content is excellent aswell and clearly vinny enjoys the halloween spoops too so its endearing to see him have a good time with games themed around spooky things
When I saw the creepy mushroom next to the red door in the "I HATE YOU" rom hack at the end of the level, it instantly sent shivers down my spine as I remember that in one version of the hack if you touch it, it would jumpscare the shit outta you with classic creepypasta images. The mushrooms at the "GAME" segment also gave me the same feeling. In fact, I personally call that mushroom the "Jumpscare Mushroom" for that reason.
The problem with Mario World hacks that try to be scary or creepy....is that it's Mario World. No matter how hard you try, you cannot make Mario World legitimately scary.
oh boy there's already mods that has IHY, coronation day and MARIO in it actually though both eyeless and game bps doesn't have any since there forgotten
*Sigh* What even is the state of that fandom these days, it's honestly just so depressing the modding community has become an absolute abomination pumping out crappy desperate for attention fad after fad. I enjoy a handful of things from the community like Atrocity but it really is a weird case where modding and fan content has been actively detrimental to the actual series and it's health. And the fandom seems to taint and try to "Claim" ownership of any series that some random smuck makes a mod based on, honestly that game blowing up like it did is the worst thing that's happened to Newgrounds, I wish it could've just stayed as a simple NG rhythm game, I don't even understand why it took off the way it did, it didn't even do anything out of the ordinary or unique, it was just a solid freeware title.
love some SMW rom hacks and honestly i love that vinny isn't the usual player of them, he dies, gets frustrated, rewinds, etc... Sure i can go watch GPW or Juz and they will crush any hack they play but vinny is endearing.
I think Coronation Day was honestly the most interesting of these games. Although I disliked the really loud part, it was certainly an interesting and creepy game that captured the vibe. I don't really have any theories about it though, just thought it was interesting!
I feel like that version of "I hate you" had to have been made just to show off their custom Luigi boss fight. Which i mean, fair, it was a bangin' boss fight.
Wanna just bring up that I actually had planned out a D&D campaign with Coronation Day or `the as its base. The idea was that the group comes across this forest (was gonna use for a domain of dread type deal), and the idea is that the party gets tormented by a wicked forest deity. The idea behind it was to use misdirection, vocal ques and player actions to trigger different things to occur, rather than have the party just walk through the same forest trail over and over again, with the sole purpose to keep players constantly moving with or without their action. Idea was it would end with the party reaching the pink forest (look it up if you aren't aware, but due note that there's gore) that the party would be face to face with the silhouette of the forest entity as they're now as deep as they can go, and then right as they're about to have this mighty clash, I manipulate my voice in such a way that when the deity talks, it transitions from this horrific entity they're facing to my own voice as DM describing the party's pleasant jaunt through the forest that took them less than 5 minutes to cross. Any and all mention of their adventure is immediately met with me gaslighting everyone both in character and at the table into believing there was nothing in that forest, there was no forest entity, and there was nothing that happened there, but every now and again, I'd let it purposefully slip in other campaigns little vocal ques that the party may or may not still be trapped there, and what they're experiencing is just another of this forest god's punishments.
That sounds like an absolutely amazing premise, I especially like the twist at the end! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants to incorporate some elements of Coronation Day into a D&D campaign. There's just something so alluring about this romhack, even though it barely gives us anything more than snippets. I think I'm just a sucker for haunted forest settings in general, though.
honestly i thought "mario" was like the final version of a ROM hack that i still have for some reason that i've dubbed "no enemies edition" where for the first two worlds there's no enemies and no music and all the point of advice blocks say wacky stuff. from vanilla dome onward it's Totally Normal but maybe i should give it another look.
Watching this reminded me of my first time playing the hack “Mario Game” and reaching World 7 for the first time. Very unsettling world and it came out of nowhere. Still one of the best SMW hacks though for sure!
“The Coronation Day” one has to be the best of the bunch in my opinion. It really plays well with that psychological horror, especially with the use of Mario is what makes it creepy to me to because you never see these characters in horror game style situations.
Wait yo it’s that I Hate You game I saw Mutahar play when I was a wee lad chilling in my bed with a super blocky iPad neat …Now that I think about it 90% of my childhood on TH-cam was spent watching these Mario World romhacks
'the was visually really cool, and I'd like to see more hacks that do a lot with the backgrounds and colours like that. Just, the substance of the hack wasn't really there.
I’m like 99% convinced that ‘the (Coronation Day) is supposed to be about the demons Lilith and Samael; it lines up well enough that i’m frankly shocked no one has proposed this (That i’ve seen). I won’t elaborate because you kinda need to see more of the game than Vinny played for that theory to sound remotely plausible. The hidden Pink Forest level all but confirms this imo.
I hadn't considered that there might be biblical themes, would you mind elaborating? I know very little about Lilith (and pretty much nothing about Samael), so I'm interested in learning what the parallels in the story are.
The Earthbound song in the first game is the same song Toby Fox sampled for the Amalgam theme and the second game just straight snagged Photoshop Flowey’s laugh, or at least it certainly sounds that way. Just thought that was kind of interesting lol.
It's always interesting to see what people create with the Creepy Mario genre. I did like how some of these had genuinely scary and unnerving moments in them. It was also a little disappointing that some had the cut to black endings but otherwise I'd say these were pretty good. Definitely enjoyed the feel of that last one. Thank you for sharing the Spoop with us Vin.
I Hate You is kinda reminiscent of Luigi's troubled past, where he was seen as a replica of Mario rather than the plumber's brother. It was before Luigi developed so he can differentiate from Mario, and become his own person rather than stay under the shadow of a gaming icon. Sakurai acknowledged this issue when developing Luigi's final smash for Brawl; right before the Luigi's Mansion inspired final smashes came to light in Smash 4 and Ultimate.
Easy speedrun ending to Coronation Day: Peach: "We should go on vacation in this forest, Mario." Mario: "In the open world map, there are haunted forest trees, meaning this place may be haunted. If we are vacationing here, it could potentially become dangerous. I believe we should reconsider where we choose to stay for this prolonged time period, as I wish to keep your safety in mind."' Peach: "Ok" The End

The original creepypasta was made as a joke so it fits
As if he's saying to him: "You fucking idiot!"
“You see Luigi that’s what happens when you don’t check your prostate”
The “Mario” one is so interesting to me, because it’s not even meant to explicitly be a creepy romhack. It’s just meant to be odd, the original thread on the SMW Central forums was just one of the users (Admin, I think) going through the submitted rom hacks and documenting their playthrough of that one that was uploaded in specific. The original creator of the rom hack itself would later come forward, and he wasn’t even like. “Ooo, you like my spooky hack?” And was more like “Fuck yeah, I made that weird thing lmao”
huh
But then what was the photo?

Mario searching for his lost eyes sounds like the plot for a Super Mario Bros Super Show episode in a weird way, like:
-Luigi! I'm blind! I can't see shit!
-Mario! King Koopa used his Dark Magic to make your eyes disappear! We have to find a way to get them back!
Or something around those lines.
Would've probably been a film parody of some sort, maybe a horror flick like the Shining.
"Luigi! You ass! I got Glaucoma! Koopa got nothing to do with it! Get me a doctor!"
Now he won’t be able to see ANY colors of the rainbow
…except black, of course

Here's a couple explanations for the third and fourth hacks in this video:
I HATE YOU was originally a story by notable creepypasta author Slimebeast, who I believe also wrote Russian Sleep Experiment.
Man I legit wished they continued the Mario romhack. I had a feeling it ended on a cliffhanger, also, where did you manage to get this info?
@@jojobizadTRASH I was already a Retsupurae fan when they covered I HATE YOU, and the effort put into the sprite work made it stick in my memory. It's always struck me as too serious and detailed to be a joke, but too silly to be serious, if that makes sense.

So a little background on "I hate you" and "Mario"
I hate you was a trollpasta made by slime beast, he was frustrated at the lack of quality in the creepypasta community most specifically the wiki. So he wrote a ironically bad creepypasta parodying the Godzilla nes story (by having screenshots)
The Mario one was made for a super Mario world fan hacking site and would of gone unnoticed if one of the admins/mods hadn't decided to play some of the unfiltered mods out of boredom
He noticed some weird text files and levels. He posted his findings immediately on the smw forums of said site
It wasn't till later that another mod found out the jumbled text has some code that's actually a png file of a creepy red eyeless woman.
Edit: So it turns out the game has like 5 other games and is part of an "arg" which it turns out was a huge troll by the creator who was 14 at the time

Then I look up the other endings online and you have to do a bunch of weird button combinations in specific spots to get them? How are you supposed to know that? Am I missing something here?

@@TehSkullKid Hear its cry
@@TehSkullKid I remember one line from that
"Was this the work of the Illuminati"
Haven't heard of Retsupurae in a long time :(
@@ImmaLittlePip “After finishing this wretched collage of electronic dejection, I will embrace death like a long lost lover with open arms.”
“Toad’s skull was cracked open and profusely bleeding, spilling blood onto the floor and making it slippery like an ice stage.”
“Suddenly, Von Koopa produced a dagger. It gleamed with uncanny realism in the light of the blood whistle’s sign. After a brief pause he began to slice Mario’s chest open. Mario again braid that fearful cry that implied he would die only to endure torture ten times the magnitude.”
Purple prose is the absolute funniest bad writing habit. All of this written about a Mario game lol.
There's apparently supposed to be a version of the I hate you rom hack where touching that weird smiling mushroom just gives you a bunch of rapid-fire jumpscares instead of killing you out right
That is the non-romhack version, which I think came first.
There was, i remember seeing a youtuber playing it and touching the mushroom and getting you a jumpscare lol
It’s the .exe version that Markiplier played years ago. The other version is a .smc file.
'the (coronation day) is legit one of my favorite rom hacks of all time. It's a shame Vinny missed the "final" ending, but I am still extremely glad that Vinny checked it out to begin with.
Though I would still very much like Vinny to see the final ending. I feel that it ties everything together and truly cements the hack as a great piece of horror well told.
There's also an ending accessible only with cheats but... That one is a bit bizarre
I've played it a fair bit, which ending do you refer to as the final ending?
@@Cattyclysm From the description of it, it sounds like he's describing the level where you the dialogue is about a person experiencing euphoria from having their internals ripped out. And the very end of the area there is a giant demonic Peach.
You have to actually hack the game to load the level in, so It's pretty obscure to most players already.
@@Cattyclysm the "final" ending is the one where you are stuck in a burning hellscape and then press a sequence of buttons to access what seems to be a report of some kind.
Silver explained the other ending I was referring to, the one that you need cheats to access.
@@GooBomber1 okay, yeah I got that one then. The only one I didn't get, as far as I know, was the giant demon peach from that pink area.
This hack interests me greatly so I tried to find just about everything I could, but I didn't really end up with any answers.
The "oh God no" and following "you fucking idiot" just kills me.
Ah, this brings back memories of Space Hamster’s scary Mario romhack videos. I think all of these were in his videos.
Aaah, I knew I saw these somewhere before. I assumed it was either Peebs or Joof; Seems like I was on the money.
@@medoli900 I'm still glad I snagged the Cthulhu one from that video before it was nuked by the creator.
@@neoqwerty Why he did that?
Yeah. Its hard to find, but it is still out there. Provided the creator didn't continue searching and deleting it.
Unfortunately I don't remember where I came across it.
Ngl I do hope it becomes a series
Vinny plays creepy *insert franchise here* hacks
@@ImmaLittlePip I was JUST thinking the exact same thing honestly. It would make me SO happy, you have no idea. I was really hoping the 'Cursed Tendies' stream would become a series, but if THIS becomes a series, well, I would be MORE than happy.
Vinny’s Silent Hill streams are AMAZING to fall asleep to, and considering I used to fall asleep to Mutahar playing games like these I think I’m getting an amazing rest tonight.
Spooky’s was also wonderful, chill enough to be some nice background audio and captivating enough in its own right. The creepy alien stories he’d tell just tied it all together for me.
soyface
33:56 at this moment in time, "you fucking idiot" 2 was indeed created by hit streamer vinny vinesauce
what a moment
That's true. One was created by Swedish Vinny, while the other was created by The Italian one
30:54 I'm gonna be honest, as someone who used to live in Detroit and no longer does, that genuinely sounds terrifying.
As per tradition, vin played Eyeless a third time this year.
Can't have a creepy SNES rom hack showcase of any kind without the good ol' Cave of the Past music. The rewind makes it even better.
DEEEEEEEIIIIIRRRRRRDREEEEEE....
...EEEEEERDRRRRRRIIIIIEEEEEEED
Somehow the beach boys unintentionally helped make a creepy song thats probably more well known than the original these days.
“Vinny, you’re scaring my Cat”. That was too funny. I was a bit extra and laughed a lot. Lol.
"Why is your cat at a computer"
the second game weirdly reminds me of the Addams Family game for the NES. Highly recommend you play that one vinny, one hell of a ride
43:10 Funny enough, there was one which did not disappear, it actually multiplied after you passed it
fun fact: the "i hate you" rom hack was based on a creepypasta that was intended to be bad, but the person who wrote it is so good at writing creepypastas that no one ever realized and thought it was just a fairly average creepypasta
17:36 i like that bit from the Clock Tower SNES ost
dont know if its just me, but every year as autumn approaches, i get more and more excited about vinny's halloween content
there's a special feel to it that just puts it above all of his other content, and his other content is excellent aswell
and clearly vinny enjoys the halloween spoops too so its endearing to see him have a good time with games themed around spooky things
Castle bleck be looking different these days
I haven’t watched Vinny in about 1 and a half years, but as soon as I saw him bring out the rewind on the second death it felt like I never left.
In fairness, these things would be turbo-tedious without rewind, especially if you're aiming to showcase a bunch of them in an hour.
@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine oh yeah no I have zero issue with him using the rewind it was just so familiar even after not watching for a long time
That one message box that wasn't there after Vin rewinded was still messing with my head.
I really enjoy the Mario fangames or romhacks streams because it's either Vinny laughing or just getting pissed off about how bad the game is
The binary at 35:48 says... notepad, according to a binary to text converter
This stream was a great watch with spotify on in the background playing some of my favourite cumstep bands.
Eyeless actually looks pretty cool. I'm glad we're finally getting stuff that's not EXE ad nauseum
Except for the Earthbound music. It's so overused, and I'm sure if aynone looks hard enough they can find creepy music that's more original.
The problem with Mario World hacks that try to be scary or creepy....is that it's Mario World. No matter how hard you try, you cannot make Mario World legitimately scary.
that's a nice opinion, unfortunately i don't agree with it.
Coronation day does a hell of a good job though
these are all going to be Friday Night Funkin' mods within a week.
oh boy there's already mods that has IHY, coronation day and MARIO in it actually though both eyeless and game bps doesn't have any since there forgotten
damn that sucks
Too late
*Sigh*
What even is the state of that fandom these days, it's honestly just so depressing the modding community has become an absolute abomination pumping out crappy desperate for attention fad after fad.
Marge Im in Friday Night Funkin!
love some SMW rom hacks and honestly i love that vinny isn't the usual player of them, he dies, gets frustrated, rewinds, etc... Sure i can go watch GPW or Juz and they will crush any hack they play but vinny is endearing.
Love to see some 'the recognition!! That hack's soundtrack is nuts.
Love that Vinny finally got his revenge on chat with the inflation joke
I think Coronation Day was honestly the most interesting of these games. Although I disliked the really loud part, it was certainly an interesting and creepy game that captured the vibe. I don't really have any theories about it though, just thought it was interesting!
Yeah it was super super super good.
I feel like that version of "I hate you" had to have been made just to show off their custom Luigi boss fight. Which i mean, fair, it was a bangin' boss fight.
34:02 Nostalgia hits hard, this is perfection
S+ tier gaslighting, amazing work
That sounds like an absolutely amazing premise, I especially like the twist at the end!
Still one of the best SMW hacks though for sure!
is there a youtube video about that hack?
Search up Self-Made Island’s full playthrough of Mario Game if you want to see it. No commentary on it so you can focus on how unsettling World 7 is
@@spudaroo1515can 👁🗨 get a link 4 it
“The Coronation Day” one has to be the best of the bunch in my opinion. It really plays well with that psychological horror, especially with the use of Mario is what makes it creepy to me to because you never see these characters in horror game style situations.
Wait yo it’s that I Hate You game I saw Mutahar play when I was a wee lad chilling in my bed with a super blocky iPad neat
…Now that I think about it 90% of my childhood on TH-cam was spent watching these Mario World romhacks
17:26 that is the first time I've heard vinny audibly get scared
Watch him play RE8! He gets startled a few times in that one.
He's played way scarier games and didn't even flinch. For me it was his scream that got me lmaoo
"bigfoot is my favorite genre of music"
Nobody tell Vinny about the Saxsquatch channel...
Eyeless has to be the most creative rom hack I've seen, I love the atmosphere so much
The face hidden in the fourth game's files scared the shit out of me when I was younger. What a blast from the past to see Vinny playing this now!
if i remember correctly turning the second to last rom into an image file is a neat little pepperoni secret ;)
‘the has always been my favourite hack, glad to see it get more attention
17:20 is one of the most hilarious moments.
Remember its super spooky and poignant if you end your game abruptly on a crappy black screen.
coronation day is probably my fave out of these
'the was visually really cool, and I'd like to see more hacks that do a lot with the backgrounds and colours like that.
"Vinny, you're scaring my cat."
"What's your cat doing on a computer?"
Ah edgy mario rom hacks how I missed you! and how I missed Vinny commentating them, shame I missed this live.
Easy speedrun ending to Coronation Day:
Peach: "We should go on vacation in this forest, Mario."
Mario: "In the open world map, there are haunted forest trees, meaning this place may be haunted. If we are vacationing here, it could potentially become dangerous. I believe we should reconsider where we choose to stay for this prolonged time period, as I wish to keep your safety in mind."'
Peach: "Ok"
