Venster Buttress (4K) | Table Mountain's Toughest Scrambles

Route 14 on my mission to find Table Mountain's toughest ascent!
Venster Buttress was a route which always held a special appeal for me. When I first started this challenge, I only had five routes in mind, taken from a list I'd found online. Venster Buttress was the most difficult route on this list, and after deciding that it was above my paygrade, I opted instead to broaden my challenge to every c-grade route I could find, and leave Venster Buttress be. A couple years later, feeling that we'd built up the experience we needed, Drake and I invited Ethan and Tim to finally take on the climb.

Difficulty Rating: 9.5/10
Challenges: One of the most awkward and technical routes on the mountain, and a solid contender for toughest route overall. Start to finish, but particularly on the top pitches, there are unconventional pitches with big exposure, sometimes over a would-be fatal fall, and so this is not a route to be taken lightly. Although the rock is good for the most part, some loose pitches here and there add an additional level of anxiety.
