Love your vids. Used them to familiarise myself with the mountain (though Id drove past many times) I'm from County Antrim. Climbed the mountain for the first time in July 2020. Up n down the ladder. Tough climb, zero vis at the top unfortunately. But yeah - great clips. Well done your dad by the way. I'm 52, still thinking I'm 20 years younger! The ladder's definitely tougher when you're on it versus what it looks like from further back. I found descent a bit tougher than ascent strangely , though fatigue had set in a little on way down. Brilliant experience though - thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you for the comment! Yes, there are some amazing routes up and down the mountain and all very individual. Descending can be tricky as you mentioned, the body gets tired and fatigue kicks in. Still, the experience is always worth it. Thanks for watching.
Well done Kinisi. Great to see your POV of the "steps" just past "the pond". If you could confirm for me the following: I first climb over 15 years ago now I was told that although not officially called anything but this small pond is called " the pond of gratitude "?? Did you ever hear this before? Reason: Kind of a marker to state you are off the Mts safely if you are descending. And 2nd the 2 semi ledge's that you come across after this pond are called " the big step " 1st one as you are ascending, and 2nd one is called "the bigger step!". As you climb this quite often would appreciate if you could confirm. Source: Friends of friends from Kerry who took us on our 1st climb all those years ago. Well done on this video and might see you on the reeks sometime.
Thank you for the comment. The terms for 'bigger step' are correct. The lake is called Lough Cummeenoughter and it is literally halfway from the hags glen, to the summit. You would normally descend the eastern side of the mountain down zig zags, heavenly gates or the devil's ladder. But the lake is a great place to stop and have a swim! Thank you for watching.
