After watching you do the backtrack method I started doing it that way and I found immediate increase in goodies. Combined with that tidbit about TNT walls acting like binding of isaac secret rooms ( if the map looks like it has space for one it will likely have one ) and the anti frustration patch coming soon I'm feeling significantly better about delving and getting those spicy crafting bits. Thanks Ziggy!
I'm a pretty new player, and ZiggyD's content is IMMENSELY helpful to me. This should really help out my delving since before I was really just gunning for azurite, jewelry and currency.
G'day ZiggyD , Dunno if you'll see this but the Smoke mine that you can return to is a wonder for dipping in/out. I know you're using phasing but this is a "safer" route back to the light.
Yeah, I think backtracking and looting in the dark is horrifying in HC (kind of why I love it) But to do it nude, that might be pushing it slightly for HC?
Even if i had 100 max flares, capped darkness res and insane regen, I STILL wouldn't try this. I have PoE death nightmares like once every couple of months let alone thinking of this insanity. LOL
for me personally, this has been the best/most informative video you've done. granted, haven't watched much of your stuff in the past year, but all-round always solid work. thanks.
FYI: The one dynamite should be enough to destroy the wall. If you take a moment and observe, the dynamite explodes with a 1-2 seconds delay. I see most TH-camrs keep spamming the dynamite button, but the real effect is done by the first dynamite activated. At the time the second dynamite explodes, the wall is already down. I always use one and wait that 1-2 seconds. Works for me :) You should definitely give it a try.
I suspected, that this was a thing, as soon as learned the Darkness res mechanic, just never got the courage to abuse this so hard - and I always forget, that there is a log-out method to return home))) Thanks for the vid, Interesting and helpful, as always!
in the video he was dark delving in a level 30 area. and if you go hc you have a logout macro. especially for rf/qotf builds that will basically never take dangerous damage from level 30 mobs while they are over level 70.
bcause the game is a) balanced around the macro (stated by Chris himself) b) most deaths are instagibs. c) Successfull use of logout macro is a player skill (as long as not programmed to prog automatically at a certain life treshhold... which are forbidden anyway). Use it correctly and you will survive, using it incorrectly is punishing.
The delve mechanic is retarded in hardcore in general mainly due to EMPs and buggy Flares. It's so easy to rip when it's 1 million % not your fault. It's also hard to push infinite scaling when the first death kills you.
You could save a flare when blowing up the fractured walls. When I see a wall, I tend to quickly throw 2 dynamite, then ran back to the crawler path to cancel the darkness debuff. I then go back, and loot the chests/fossils throwing a flare down then if required.
@ ZiggyD Gaming did some quick graphing and the darkness base resistance seems to be linear "resist = 2*depth - 4". seems like a good thing to look at cause it'd make it really easy to not need to guess what depth to do this in. since you could just say "i have this much res from upgrades, so ' depth = (my_res+4)/2 ' " instead of bouncing around.
lol I'm level 80 and had no idea how you got fossils... tried going back a few times to check for walls and stuff to blow up but i've only found 2 in the last few days i've been playing.
They could patch the resistance level on the subterranean chart so you can see it on each node you hover your mouse. Right now its a bit unintuitive UI-wise.
Thank you for this clarification (and your content on this league in general) however I sincerely hope that the next patch cleans up the extremely unreliable nature of the flares. Too often they don't illuminate (if you are too close to a wall) or you can't see them given all the visual distractions of monsters and environmental stuff. Delve is exciting, but the core mechanic of a flare being this dodgy is yet again a demonstration of GGG's need to QC their content.
wow, im down to delve level 82 and i've only been going point to point for encounters. i had no idea. can i go back to the top and explore all the areas i've cleared for fossils?
I would love a Darkness based minigame like the Battle Royale we had earlier I never got to try. Maybe for Halloween they could add a game where you hunt other players in the Darkness? or where there's a player you're supposed to avoid cause they'll kill you?
I play Ranger every league (since alpha). This is only the second time I have picked the Raider for Phasing/Onslaught because I knew that phasing would be the only way I could live down there. And I was right. My first few runs without ascendancy, I died only to being blocked and not catching up with the cart. Even with Blink Arrow, it would just be a mess. As soon as I got phasing, I haven't died since. Get in trouble? Run. Matched up with the immunity to ailments during phasing you its a free ride.
Thanks a lot for these videos Ziggy. After watching this and some of your streams I am now actually enjoying the Delves a lot more. Gone from being a fairly meh league to becoming really quite enjoyable now. I can see myself sticking with the league for quite some time.
i am playing a cyclone slayer, the leech sustains for so long time i can stay for a lot of time in darkness but u kind of need to hit monsters from time to time so i just explore while traveling with the cart...it is not superfast like some pathfinder's videos i 've seen but it is super safe.
Is running in the darkness without sulphite even worth it? The chests and fossils don't appear to respawn, so all you are doing is preventing yourself from getting that loot in the future when you use sulphite to go down the path.
Found that it's better to go to a point where you have already been and follow the already lit tunnel and search all side areas instead of being in the dark for the whole time.
I wondered if there was gonna be increased price when buying gear...because I did the first method on first day of just running along the ropes after a delve node and most of the time there are good currency drops...Didn't know people thought there were nothing in the delve areas...well now they all know lmao
So wait....once you have a long delve at say depth 120 or so which is pretty obtainable for anyone, and the darkness resistance to efficiently farm it. you can just redo the same path over and over and easy mode collect chests for as long as you want?
It is again funny how HC players really have to calculate there choices. I mean that darkness is so harsh and I have died multiple times with my HC characters whilst blowing up a wall or getting loot. HC is brutal and more intense and these delves make it even harder and more intense. Only thing is, I get way less loot, cause I wont just jump into darkness and see what is behind the corner. Don't want to start at the beach yet again :) Good game mode yet again! One question. Do you think it is worth going more to the left or right? Just delve a path to the far right?
I legit saw them hit like 413 or so, then someone took the lead for three levels. I sign off, watch some Supernatural, get sad because God doesn't care about the apocalypse (That part gets me every time ;^;) So I sign back in, and lo and behold. GriftsAreSoFun is back in the lead at 520. I feel like this is gonna be the next guy on the news because he/she died at their keyboard.
This method seem to work on tank-ish builds. Would trappers have any chance running around in the dark or do I need to re-roll for the sake of this league.
I dont get why the flares are so akward, should be a skill that plays a throwing animation and lands wherever you throw it so you have full control over where you want it.
so what i gathered from this video is don't bother exploring until you have capped darkness res and flare radius. That could've saved me some frustrating moments.
seems like it would be nice if flares removed the debuff by default when you drop them instead of having to walk over the light. at least initially since they drop so wonky
If you die while running in the dark, what happens to the loot? If you venture forth and dark run it and later delve run it with the cart, will the side area stuff respawn?
I really want gilded fossils for chance at exalts. I assume certain fossils are from certain "types" of delve areas such as the "mine" and the "abyssal depths" or "magma/ice/whatever". Is there a list that shows which drop from what biome? or has anyone got a gilded fossil and do they remember which biome it was?
When I go back to the mine encampment, the entire area I was in resets. I also have way too many currency spots that are not connected to anything at all, and I looked all over the place for a way to connect them.
“Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!”
When doing the run without the cart, how do you trigger the encounters when you get there? I ran to a new point twice and no encounter occurred ... I looked around and found no place where I could start the encounter, either.
I'm still relatively new to PoE but I decided to try HC during this league. I've lost 3 or 4 characters now to the darkness and watching this gives me anxiety lol. I think I'm just being too aggressive and my resistance is still barely upgraded.
It seems it doesn't work anymore.. I've tried darkness runs towards unexplored nodes, and after exiting and re-entering the mine, the layout was different but the side areas were empty of loot. I guess it doesn't make much sense now to "nudie darkness run". If you have different info, or update, please share
Just curious, as I'm a bit skeptical when games say "Infinite size" But is the Azurite Mines a true infinite map, does it stop at 6k Depth (which is when the wiki I looked at stops) or does it keep on going? I only ask because Minecraft claims to be infinite as well (But stops at the max distance the 64-bit algorithm can generate.) That is, is it actually infinite, or is it just Obscenely large like the Minecraft world? Has anyone even checked yet?
Wonder how long will it take until someone finds a unique/passive combo that can drop the damage low enough to counter it almost completely with regeneration. So you can just walk around and loot.
the damage increases over time through stacks so you have to step in the light eventually its just a matter of how long, Ziggy got intos the 50's on multiple occasions I wouldn't be surprised if a RF build with RF turned off could get to 100 or so
I am so sad I leveled Vaal Pact character to like 80 and now realise its COMPLETLY useless for non-mainpath delving. I dont want to level new one :/ Any tips ?
I use a vaal pact slayer to use the leech stacks as regen, don't even use health flasks, just pop a flare, leech form some mobs with a hard hitting skill to capitalize on the over leech and run in the dark for as long as the leech stacks let you, repeat, I last more or less the same amounts of time Ziggy lasted while dark running here.
Thanks Ziggy!
what anti frustration patch?
Now watch the market price go high
Huh, the TBoI comparison really works. Nice one.
I'm a pretty new player, and ZiggyD's content is IMMENSELY helpful to me. This should really help out my delving since before I was really just gunning for azurite, jewelry and currency.
Vidyas a bit orange, forgot to turn off night mode Zzzz Just enjoy the warm glow while I run naked in the dark
G'day ZiggyD , Dunno if you'll see this but the Smoke mine that you can return to is a wonder for dipping in/out. I know you're using phasing but this is a "safer" route back to the light.
People complain about delves being too blue so isn't the orange a good thing?
its just a f.lux
Whoa
That looks awesome
is this night mode available on Win7?
Win 10 or you can download Flux (free app does the same thing)
the nudie run concept is going to haunt HC players' nightmares
Yeah, I think backtracking and looting in the dark is horrifying in HC (kind of why I love it)
But to do it nude, that might be pushing it slightly for HC?
Even if i had 100 max flares, capped darkness res and insane regen, I STILL wouldn't try this. I have PoE death nightmares like once every couple of months let alone thinking of this insanity. LOL
so basically I should stay in hc if I want to have nightmares?
Pro tip: Just hold the flare in your hand instead of dropping it.
Tymski sorry that just makes to much sense to do.
How do you do that? What button do you push to hold the flare?

Thanks for the guides, you are a treasure to the community :)
Darkness delving (or unwillingly getting EMPed) is a great way to RIP in hardcore.
in the video he was dark delving in a level 30 area. and if you go hc you have a logout macro. especially for rf/qotf builds that will basically never take dangerous damage from level 30 mobs while they are over level 70.
ETHICAL
@@svnhddbst8968
Why would u even play hc if u just log out when u die
bcause the game is a) balanced around the macro (stated by Chris himself) b) most deaths are instagibs. c) Successfull use of logout macro is a player skill (as long as not programmed to prog automatically at a certain life treshhold... which are forbidden anyway). this is the finest example why you really should watch the whole video. thank you very much. i'll try both methods)

Thanks for confirming my switch from Chieftan to Deadeye.... seems like speed will still be kind... Chieftan for lab farming/pushing harder delves
thank you. that was really helpful. i tried this one just earlier, and discovered that they are fun to explore.
Do you hate the mine cart?
Then welcome to darkness delving where the cart is your enemy.
Just like in Overwatch, no one ever moves the payload
In overwatch, you follow payload.
IN SOVIET POE, PAYLOAD FOLLOWS YOU!
*Me:* OwO a fossil!
*Cart:* Lol bye!
They should just explain this at the start of delving.
yeah, i had no idea this was a thing
Wow, thank you for this guide. Really helped me understand delve more.
lol I'm level 80 and had no idea how you got fossils... tried going back a few times to check for walls and stuff to blow up but i've only found 2 in the last few days i've been playing.

oh my, i can allready see the min-maxers going "i went darkness diving for 50 hours and this league is not fun!!"
Ziggy, your PoE guide videos are THE BEST on TH-cam! You're a god to me! :D
You’re doing The Lord’s work, Ziggy. GG
holly shit,i didn't know that i can click on visit button again to get back in the same delve, thanks

quartz flask PF or DE > raider
i feel like this is like running uberlab and hitting all the traps on purpose, does this feel like a good way to be playing poe?
11/10 would watch a league of ziggy doing dark nudey runs
Thanks a lot for these videos Ziggy. After watching this and some of your streams I am now actually enjoying the Delves a lot more. Gone from being a fairly meh league to becoming really quite enjoyable now. I can see myself sticking with the league for quite some time.

finaly a worthfull guide on Devling.
very helpfull to me, till now I always ignored the delve-system (shame on me) but it's actually really fun... didn't expect that xD
i am playing a cyclone slayer, the leech sustains for so long time i can stay for a lot of time in darkness but u kind of need to hit monsters from time to time so i just explore while traveling with the cart...it is not superfast like some pathfinder's videos i 've seen but it is super safe.
Is this still an effective method after the 3.7 updates?
not that much... now you must go around deph 300+ to start making a decent amount of currency on Delve...
"The only real cost to doing this is pretty much just the cost of flares"
and time...
Pretty much what i've been doing feels good to know i was doing it right :D
Is running in the darkness without sulphite even worth it? The chests and fossils don't appear to respawn, so all you are doing is preventing yourself from getting that loot in the future when you use sulphite to go down the path.
He does it in areas that are so below level that you won't get anything good anyways and wouldn't waste sulphite on
9:55 you have balls of steel for doing this while halfway to next lvl up. edit, i am a noob to poe, i hadent considered logging off.
Delve feels raw atm, especially for hardcore. Hopefully ggg will make some improvements.
VERY HELPFUL!!! Thanks a lot.
Found that it's better to go to a point where you have already been and follow the already lit tunnel and search all side areas instead of being in the dark for the whole time.

@ZiggyD Gaming Would you recommend using any other upgrades or focusing solely on Darkness Resistance?
After watching this, i immediately did this i was desperate for money. 5 wall exploded later i found Exalted TY ZiggyD :D
Now in 3.5, delving is like playing a minigame. Anyway, there's literally hundreds of hours content now.
It is again funny how HC players really have to calculate there choices. One question. Do you think it is worth going more to the left or right? Just delve a path to the far right?
Would warlords mark help keep your hp up in "nudey runs?" I think Vuln would be a bit overkill if you're already above the level .

Making so much money, thanks Ziggy!
so what i gathered from this video is don't bother exploring until you have capped darkness res and flare radius.
That could've saved me some frustrating moments.
Ziggyd, are you pretty confident that delves will become part of the core game?
@ZiggyD Gaming what about your arc trapper from incursion! is there a guide for it on the forum would love to try your trapper build out
another fun fossil is perfect, you can get 30% maps w/ it, wouldn't surprise me if it works on armor/weapons to
I use cyclone since it phases through enemies and also helps leech life.
THANK YOU ZIGGY!!!!
Dear DiggyZ :P please update your build. I am playing it rightnow and i saw changes in this video :O
seems like it would be nice if flares removed the debuff by default when you drop them instead of having to walk over the light. at least initially since they drop so wonky
QUESTION: i havent looted anything up to lvl 70ish. Is it worth it to go back and loot all the lower levels? Is the loot just as good back there?
You can run around and check side areas in earlier delves if you like but I'd say just keep going and start checking from now on
dude you know this job is
how to do !!! GG
If you die while running in the dark, what happens to the loot? If you venture forth and dark run it and later delve run it with the cart, will the side area stuff respawn?
this is amazing thank you ziggy ur the best !!
TIL that you can go backwards and there is light that the cart dropped... That makes it seem more possible to get stuff...
So... Should I wait till I'm done story for doing this delving thing.. or does it matter? I just want that 75% dark resitance ASAP
you can go sidearea while delving aswell
Do the fossil drops respawn when the map resets after the 8 minutes, or will you eventually run out of areas to darkness run?
I really want gilded fossils for chance at exalts. I assume certain fossils are from certain "types" of delve areas such as the "mine" and the "abyssal depths" or "magma/ice/whatever". Is there a list that shows which drop from what biome? or has anyone got a gilded fossil and do they remember which biome it was?
Im confused, is there some advantage to nudie running? Or is it just if you cant be bothered to get the sulfite?
you gonna make a build guide eventually for your build?
Do the side areas refresh after a while?
I was expecting the nudie runs would have you removing all armor to increase movement speed.
The thing I hate about the new socketable currency, is that it's not unsocketable. I wasted a triple resonator experimenting on it.
Oh let's see what happens "has no life mod, has armor mod" and "has no armor mod, has life mod".
Does it work if I keep going back and to the delve routes I've farmed? Or it has to be "freshly" explored delve route?
If you wanna test your vaals,do the second method in hc
At which point is it advised to start going sideways to get azurite for upgrades?
this was damn useful. gonna try out
Love your videos ziggy favorite PoE content man keep it up
Im running Enki's Arc Witch, im almost to mapping levels what changes would you make to do this on my Witch?
Any idea how he is getting the text on the chests? Running in the dark and finding a corner I am rarely able to tell if an actual chest is in there.
When I go back to the mine encampment, the entire area I was in resets. I also have way too many currency spots that are not connected to anything at all, and I looked all over the place for a way to connect them.
In what way is this method different now? Can this still be done?
Also, do the side areas reset? For example can you keep doing the same route over and over?
“Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!”
Hey, are the fossils area-specific? Cause I got three Aberrant Fossils in one run in the abyssal depth-like area. And the life one in the mine area
Yeah, some biomes have specific fossils, though many are just random (like life fossils seem random)
Im gonna try this in HC after the patch :)
Cannot find any sulphite in The Quarry in lv76 ? Where can I find it ? Thanks you
It seems it doesn't work anymore.. I've tried darkness runs towards unexplored nodes, and after exiting and re-entering the mine, the layout was different but the side areas were empty of loot. I guess it doesn't make much sense now to "nudie darkness run".
If you have different info, or update, please share
awsome video as always :)

There is at least 90k depth
Heya ziggi, do you have an update on the build you do currently?
Wonder how long will it take until someone finds a unique/passive combo that can drop the damage low enough to counter it almost completely with regeneration.
So you can just walk around and loot.
the damage increases over time through stacks so you have to step in the light eventually its just a matter of how long, Ziggy got intos the 50's on multiple occasions I wouldn't be surprised if a RF build with RF turned off could get to 100 or so
@ZiggyD Gaming does this still work in Betrayal? And do Fossils and Resonators still drop im new to the game
late reply ebcause older video but yes! This works in betrayal. The dynamite walls are better loot now though.
Is there a hardcore league version of this guide?
I am so sad I leveled Vaal Pact character to like 80 and now realise its COMPLETLY useless for non-mainpath delving. I dont want to level new one :/ Any tips ?
I use a vaal pact slayer to use the leech stacks as regen, don't even use health flasks, just pop a flare, leech form some mobs with a hard hitting skill to capitalize on the over leech and run in the dark for as long as the leech stacks let you, repeat, I last more or less the same amounts of time Ziggy lasted while dark running here.
