      I think around 40 at the moment. 12 of those are Kirbys.

      @@VacLab that makes sense

    I think I see you have a g3 in the background. You can actually put the older metal fan with the taller, straighter blades in the g3 and g4. I have one in my g3. The amount of airflow it has is ridiculous. They changed the front bearing plate for the g5 and later machines so you can't use it in those. You should try and get ahold of a metal fan and swap it into your g3. I'd be curious at how much more cfm it has

    • @VacLab
      @VacLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have limited testing with a metal fan and was not impressed. To date, I have seen no confirmation that an older metal fan has more airflow than the newest Amodal. Do you have a link to a metal fan airflow box test?

    • @davisbrady5145
      @davisbrady5145 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VacLab I don't. It made minimal gains in my heritage. It made much larger gains in my g3 because of the higher rpm motor. The fact that the blades are deeper and straighter will make it move more air period. The different emptor and fan housing design also help I'm sure

    • @VacLab
      @VacLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davisbrady5145 Not buying it. Unless I see the actual live tests, what you believe remains a pure myth. This channel busts myths regularly with real scientific, rigorous tests. Did you forget the massive fan redesign for the G5 back in the 1990's? Guess what? Airflow was increased as well as many other improvements. Kirby wouldn't bother to spending millions partnering with NASA to produce something worse.
      spinoff.nasa.gov/spinoff1997/ch9.html
      And you also believe that the motor RPM (and hence the brushroll RPM, which is directly proportional to the motor speed) has increased? That is also false. While I don't have 10 samples of each machine I list below, I do have multiples of the Heritage II Legend and lots of early and later G series machines. Guess what? From the 5 Amp DS80 all the way through the G6, no appreciable RPM change.
      Specifically: The H2L and all the early G series machines tested just shy of 4% faster than the 1960's Dual Sanitronic 80. That's barely statistically significant. So that would mean essentially a ZERO CFM difference from the 1980's to just past the early 2000's. Assuming similar CFM gains based solely on motor RPM, that would mean a boost from 125 CFM (my DS80) to 130 CFM. Bottom line: you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
      As always, do proper research before deciding to believe the so called "wives tales" next time.

    Love the G5!!! I have 2 of them along with a Sentria. I prefer the handle feel and tech drive of the G5 over the Sentria.
    My first G5 was given to me by my mother; she bought it new when I was a KID.
    I'm now recalling a few occasions where, after mowing and edging the front yard, I used that G5 to suck up the grass clippings from the sidewalk, road and driveway (I couldn't get the hang of a blower at the time lol). After, I would empty the bag, wipe it off and put it back in the closet. Don't think she ever knew. I was probably 13 or 14 at the time.
    I rebuilt it last year; everything still worked great, just seemed like a fun thing to do. Polishing it is the worst part.

      I prefer the square handle of the G3-G7's as well.

    New bearings stamped "China" make me wonder if this set will last as long as the last ones did. I'm not going to say "Pinko" out loud but as a silent whisper (though I know that you don't have a choice on these things these days). Give me a good ole Yankee bearing (or a Chris King Headset for a bicycle and some duct tape and I can make it work somehow) for my red/white/blue American Kirby please! Campagnolo! Si!

    • @VacLab
      @VacLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nothing like a big plate of yummy Chineesium. 😄
      Know what's really weird? When I did a global search for electric motor bearing pullers, I only found them in China, nowhere else. We just don't make much here in the good 'ol USA anymore. 😞
      Oh and FYI, most of the bearings in Kirbys are made from Chineesium as well. The remainder are Japanese. 😠

    Wonderful video! There is a Kirby Utility for sale in my area. This being the rare handheld from years ago. The gentleman selling it is a former vacuum shop owner. Downside, it is missing its bag, but one could be made. If you would be interested in the item, please reply. Just a neat item that I thought would be of great enjoyment to watch you rebuild!
