The best jazz cover of a Beatles song since Wes Montgomery.

    I agree 100&
Just listen to his album "At The Village Gate",it's brilliant!
Only 3 tracks on the cd but what amazing music.
    Includes " Comin' Home Baby " / " Summertime " & a 20 Min version of " It Ain't Necessarily So "
It must be one of the very best live jazz albums of all time.
What a musical genius Herbie was & the backing group is fantastic.
    ENJOY!

Herbie recorded a ton of albums over the years but it is his last one (Beyond Brooklyn) that really brings it all home. He is together with alto sax master Phil Woods and the results are bebop burgandy and intoxicating. At the time of the recording Herbie was feeling quite sick but carried on with a lot of class (reminds me of Michael Brecker and Stan Getz's last recordings; so much spirit and mastery despite the illnesses).

No doubt, Herbie Mann is just being a little ironic, and not in a mean-spirited way. This is a classic Beatles' tune and most certainly, the Beatles, great Brits, ruled the pop culture during the 1960s when the British Empire's last colonies were becoming independent ("decline and fall of the British Empire" iat the same time the Beatles owned the empire of pop culture). Herbie was inspired by this Beatles tune; this is some of his most free-spirited, engaged playing.

Eines der stärksten Stücke, die ich in der Art hören durfte. Leider ein kleiner geheim Tipp. Die Fusion ist nur optimal, alle kommen nicht nur zu Wort . . .
Gerne mehr in der Besetzung by 1967???? "H. Mann, The Wailing Dervishes"
