TOEFL Writing - Don’t Do This!
In TOEFL Writing you can easily make mistakes that will cost you a lot of points. I scored 30/30 in TOEFL Writing and I talk about 5 big mistakes that you should not make. These mistakes will make it impossible for you to get a high TOEFL Writing score even if you are good at writing in English. However, it is not hard to avoid them, you just need to know what you should not do. Once you know that, you can improve your TOEFL Writing score quickly and efficiently. Don’t let these mistakes get in your way!

HOW TO WORK WITH THIS VIDEO
    1. Watch the video and make sure you understand everything.
    2. Download the illustration.
    3. Use the illustration for your TOEFL preparation.
    FYI
The examples I use in the video and in the illustration are made up by me.
    1) DON’T USE CONTRACTIONS
Do not use contractions in TOEFL Writing! Contractions are used in informal language: it is ok to use them in speaking and also in writing if it does not happen in an academic context. However, your TOEFL essays have an academic context. If you use informal language in TOEFL Writing your score will drop considerably.
    2) DON’T WRITE LESS THAN THE WORD COUNT
Guys, many of you have asked me in the comments whether it is bad if you write less than the word count given. In TOEFL Writing the word count is a minimum requirement, this means that you should write at least as many words as the word count states. So definitely do not write less because this will hurt your TOEFL Writing score. My tip is to write a bit more than the word count because this way you show ETS that you are able to write longer texts.
    3) DON’T USE MEMORIZED ANSWERS
During your TOEFL preparation you will write a lot of essays to practice. Do not memorize these essays! This will not help you, rather it will hurt your score. If you memorize whole essays for the TOEFL you will most likely not answer the question given. Instead, you will answer the question that you prepared. Consequently, you will get a lower score because you did not provide an answer to the question asked.
Now you may ask: But why am I allowed to memorize a template then? Excellent question! I am a huge fan of TOEFL templates because they make it easier for you to get a high TOEFL score. A template is different from a memorized essay. A template tells you how you can start your sentences, which linking words you can use, and how your TOEFL essay should be structured. In short, a template is independent of the topic of an essay, it is just a framework. Therefore, a template will not influence the content of your TOEFL essays. That is why memorizing a template is fine, but memorizing whole essays is not.
    4) DON’T REPEAT WORDS
In TOEFL Writing your score also depends on the vocabulary you use. If you constantly repeat words, ETS will get the impression that you do not know another word, and thus they will think that you lack the vocabulary to express things in a different way. You do not want to do that! You want to show that you have a broad range of vocabulary and that you know how to use these words correctly. Therefore, use synonyms in your TOEFL essays.
    5) DON’T COPY TEXT
In both TOEFL Writing tasks you will be given some text. These texts contain information that you must use in your essays. For example, in task 2 of TOEFL Writing you need the information from the prompt for your introduction because the prompt tells you what your essay should be about and you must write about that in your introduction. Do not copy the words from the prompt! You do not get points for copying text. You must rephrase this information using your own words. Your TOEFL Writing score depends on how well you do that.

Hello there Juva, I took my test today, but I'm so pissed off about my test centre's keyboards! They slowed down my typing speed due to their terrible "key travel" and also the keys made errors like writing letters twice or not executing my clicks. Because of that, I didn't get to revise my writing (for contractions or typos) or see if I can add more phrases in the text (although I think I did well on this section). 🤦‍♂️ ETS should really make test centres to provide better peripherals.

Hi Juva. First of all, THANK YOU for all the effort you put in the explanations and videos; your content is indeed useful for those willing to take the TOEFL. Just a question regarding the speaking section, what should be the speaking pace? How many sentences or words should I reach to get 30 points? Once again, thank you.

    • @juva
      @juva  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hi Jorge, you're so welcome! I'm so glad the content is helpful to you. You should speak in a normal pace, not too slow so that you can fit all in the information in you need to say, but also not too fast because ETS must be able to understand you. I think your score doesn't depend on how many sentences or words you say, you must only make sure that you mention everything that's necessary. Hope this helps :)

nowadays the automation is a perfect way to keeps your time and effort as well ,so it is not a reason to make people losing their jobs ,i don't agree with the statement, for three reasons i will explain it in my essay :
firstly, majority of the automation processes are located in factories so the works will be done in a limited time with keep humans soul safty. ، less effort and time as well which is a significant requirment in this era in order to execute and carry out the works without any errors , also there are lots of people who lost thier lives, because they were supposed to worke and deale with dangerous machines, this is a pity, the increase in autmotion is a really lifesaver to get the people's souls safe.

lastly , to my mind i think this statement is illogical becouse the automaton is a Man-made process so we end up getting Developers, so obviously we need humans . also the automation located in specific places in the factories ,we can not make such a decision in every workplace ,because there are jobs where there no chance for it to be executable

    • @juva

The minimum word count will be stated in the TOEFL. According to ETS it's about 150 for task 1 and 300 for task 2.
