    New Years Eve 2023 Update: Before anyone says it. Yes I am aware of the US Version of the Sizzle Reel! But this video was produced before The TUGS Project revealed their copy. However, this will not detract from the points brought up in the video.

    Why don’t they sell the 20 min tapes

    The Tugs Exhibition should be forced to release the lost footage. It is not right keeping it to themselves

      Alas, Gatekeeping is a. Common practice among many people, dunno why, maybe it’s a way to have power in their eyes, I mean, look at Hello Twins from Thomas and how people from SiF had photos of Hello Twins for years Before they were leaked

    • @kilimenjiro3753
      @kilimenjiro3753 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They don’t technically own the footage. As an exhibit they likely have a license to display it and screen it, but having a license from BMG (which they apparently do) doesn’t translate into “I can just put this all online.”
      How they treat the materials they have (I.e. not well) is a different story.

  • @MarvelMTs
    @MarvelMTs ปีที่แล้ว +8

    In all fairness, TUGS is owned by BMG Ltd., so is still legally owned. The TUGS Trust probably withholds the footage to avoid copyright infringement

      But some stuff has leaked and they haven't gotten introuble for the leak footage so what's stopping them from releasing the footage?

    • @BigLadStudios
      @BigLadStudios 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Knowing the petty history of those who own the trust, I highly doubt that's what's stopping them.

    • @SonicWalle
      @SonicWalle  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, TUGS is still owned legally by BMG (with another half of the rights gone to Robert Cardona) and yes uploading unreleased materials is illegal without the consent of the rights holders. But since it is on the "as long as its not making a profit" side of things. When unreleased TUGS materials or footage are released or leaked. Nothing happens. And in fact, The Exhibition has charged people to see the tapes in person before 2020 which was then they stopped doing those events. So technically they're the ones violating copyright law by making profit of these materials.
      And if it was so sensitive to copyright, then why did they display three of the tapes at a VIP event in 2022 (not to mention the inclusion of clips of the rare in Bigg Retrospective)? Where no one there was discouraged to record the videos. Especially since video recordings of the screen with the videos have been public for over a year now.

    Is the 1990 version of Trapped meant to be the Tugs revival test pilot?

    • @SonicWalle

      Yes.

    • @houseofthesupermen377
      @houseofthesupermen377 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SonicWalle wait, there was an attempt for a revival in 1990? With totally new footage?

    • @SonicWalle
      @SonicWalle  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope. The TUGS 90s Revival is actually the Brian Blessed Dub, which according to the wiki is called the "TUGS Late 1990s Revival" (even though it actually dates back to 1990, I do not know why the wiki claims it dates back to the late 90s, despite the tape stating it was from 1990. Maybe the page was created before the front of the tape was (well) known?).
      I presume it's named such as a revival because it was sort of a last ditch effort from Cardona to keep/revive TUGS from cancellation before Clearwater's closure in New Years 1990 and then he was presumably brought onto the production team for Theodore Tugboat sometime later on.

    • @houseofthesupermen377
      @houseofthesupermen377 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SonicWalle yeah, I looked it up on the wiki. It's really sad seeing just how much work went into this series that ultimately sunk before it could truly sail. I am grateful for what we do have, though. Why is it called the Brian Blessed dub? Was he like an actor or something? Is there any footage of this revival available?

    • @SonicWalle
      @SonicWalle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brian Blessed is indeed an actor who worked on various films and TV, like Disney's Tarzan and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (im purely going off the wiki for this)! For whatever reason, Cardona managed to convince him to be a narrator for the dub. No audio or footage of the dub has leaked but it is known that the music and effects track is slightly off by two seconds according to testimonies of those who saw the dub. The Exhibition still has the tape (the tape itself, not the footage and audio, was on display in the coach, among the other tapes earlier this year) but are unwilling to release it. It's a shame we may never see it.

    Considering the TUGS exhibition are now the full owners of the franchise, there is absolutely no reason at all why they should hoard all the tapes they know people want to see like little children . At the very, very least, they could upload clips of the tapes on youtube if they own digitalized copies. I don't see any reason why people should gatekeep lost media because people are just not going to care about it at some point if it's too hard to obtain and then BOOM, you lost interest in TUGS.
    But anyways, cool video.

    • @Rockaway-v6k
      @Rockaway-v6k 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re not full owners - they’re (now) an officially licensed exhibit, Tugs is still owned by BMG.

      @@kilimenjiro3753 BMG is a music distribution company that only protects the copyright of popular songs?

    • @SonicWalle

      TUGS: The Exhibition does not own the rights to TUGS. Half of TUGS' rights is owned by Robert D. Cardona and the second half by BMG. I am aware that yes, BMG is a record label and music distributor, but they simply only have half of TUGS' rights due to them acquiring Castle Communications(the company that formed Castle Vision who distributed TUGS on VHS). Which explains why they own half the rights.
