Bruh Shaq is bbq chicken in the pick n roll, they would exploit him in the pick and roll and screening actions since he would always drop and would not show because he can't keep up
@@rickeeprice casuals like yourself don't want to understand he has to shoot so many shots because he's not passing because his teammates don't work as hard as him causing Kobe to be inefficient.
@ bro shut up. Kobe had the most assists of a sg until harden came along. I agree that series he was chucking but to say he would’ve shot them out of the game against golden state is a bit much. If you go look back at the rings they did win together you’d see he played lights out too. Shaw doesn’t get 3 without Kobe.
I agree people forget that 2001 Lakers team was the best three points shooting team Phil Jackson coach you had guys like Fisher Horry Shaw Fox Grant Kobe were all pertty good three points shooters and had there own shot was well
The warriors are the greatest 3pt shooting team in history during those kd years, literally 3 of the top 5 greatest pretty much and then solid sole players on top? The warriors never lost with that team healthy, shaq and Kobe lost plenty of times
5 chips in 20 years, sounds like plenty of people could stop especially in 04, 22ppg on 38% fg and 17% from the arc? But yea sure NOBODY could stop him 😂
Rick fox and Derek Fisher would have been roughing up Klay and Steph on the defensive end Draymond green would have fouled out every single game trying to guard Shaq not to mention he's probably getting suspended a game or two and we haven't even mentioned Kobe yet
@@stoopconvo2924d fish was a pretty well disciplined defender actually… he wouldn’t be fouling out bro… dray is a dirty player and he’s gonna have to be guarding Shaq… you don’t defend steph, you’re just chasing him around screens the whole game… the fact you don’t know this explains a lot
GS roster is not constructed to deal with Shaq. They have Bogut 7’ David West and Draymond, both 6’7”. They will be in the bonus 5 minutes into the game
Chicago Bulls used to carry what they called the 3 headed monster of Longley, Wennington and Perdue just to have enough fouls and big bodies for Shaq. They replaced Perdue with guys like Robert Parrish, but they always had three 7 footers in the rotation.
Well, being in the bonus is arguably right where you want to be when you're going against Shaq lol. Cause he's more likely to make a dunk than he is to make his free throws. And Shaq is going to be playing drop coverage on defense which is MASSIVE advantage warriors. Do you want Shaq going under screens when KD has the ball? Let alone in a Steph-KD pick and roll? When Shaq and Kobe DID lose, they got beat soundly by the smaller Detroit pistons, who featured a stretch big in sheed and switchable defenders all over the roster along with an elite off ball shooter in rip and a scoring guard in Chauncey. Now replace Billups with Curry, rip with Klay, and sheed with effing KD, along with swapping out prince with Andre Iguodala. Offensively, the warriors operated as a combination of the triangle, the sun's seven seconds offense, and the Spurs facilitation out of the low and high post. So schematically, the warriors are doing things that even lue admitted had some success against the Lakers. Shaq is getting deep fried off the bounce by KD and Iggy on the outside, respectfully. Draymond is going to get at least one or two free dunks a game off of faking the handoff with one of the shooters and driving to the cup. The Lakers would have to play PERFECT defense for four games in seven tries while offensively Shaq and Kobe are going to have to average 30 on high efficiency while getting at least 15 if not more from someone else every game. Meanwhile, the warriors can double Kobe, send help at Shaq, and push the pace on offense to the point where the Lakers can't mathematically keep up considering the warriors are hitting threes in the full court while the Lakers are only getting two. I understand I have a bias as a warriors fan, but I also feel like people have forgotten how the other teams performed against us and STILL got trounced. LeBron was basically averaging an efficient 30 point triple double, Kyrie was averaging an efficient 28-30, Love was giving them a solid 15-18, and Cleveland lost in 5. And their only win came off of literally the greatest single game three point shooting performance in NBA finals history. A 30 point triple double from the GOAT depending on who you ask, an efficient 30 every game from Kyrie, and Kevin Love doing his damnedest to keep up, and the Cavs got waxed and torched like a candle. Bron was 34 12 and 10 on 63% true shooting, Kyrie was 29 4 and 4 on 56% true shooting, and Kevin Love was putting up 16 and 11 with 3.2 stocks on 39% from 3, and they LOST IN FIVE. They were better across the board from their best players than the year before when they won the finals against a 73 win team, and the Cavs were so outmatched that their peak performance was barely good enough to take one game from the warriors with KD. Personally, I feel like a lot of people are sentimental about parts of the game that have been rendered obsolete because they were happier when the game looked that way. Shaq and Kobe lost in 5 to the Detroit pistons, who had a similar construction to the warriors but with far inferior talent. The warriors have the perfected version of every single difference maker those pistons had, how on earth could we in good faith and with an objective approach favor those Lakers in a matchup with the warriors?
1:26 EXACTLY. So when some people get on air and try to drop Kobe in rankings due to Shaq being the #1 for most of their run... mf Prime Shaq would be first option on any bloody team with any other player in history. It was more of a credit to Kobe that he was able to perform close to equal in some series because Shaq was the one player in the league that was literally unguardable.
It does hurt him some. It boosts him over players like Barkley and puts him in the Pippen role for the 1st 3. I'm sure he would say those last 2 rings mean more to him then the 1st 3 because he drove that team.
I’ll be honest, Draymond belongs with the old school era… he vibes with them real well all the time and also has the 80’s to 2000s mentality, unlike most of the players in today’s game
Mike D’antoni had an interesting modern philosophy playing against Shaq. He had Amare Stoudamire play the 5. That was an easy 40 points for Shaq, but Amare was able to get his 30+ playing with tempo, and down the stretch of games Shaqs teammates were out of rhythm and they could play Hack a Shaq late in the 4th. I would assume that would be the Warriors strategy as well.
The Warriors pace is all-time great during this era. Shaq has to go up-and-down the court on a shit ton of fastbreaks and he has to come up to the perimeter guarding ball screens. He can go drop coverage for Curry to pull up from three. This is 2017 Prime Curry we are talking about who won the MVP last year pulling crazy three pointers on ridiculous efficiency. If he comes up the screen, Curry would beat him off the dribble and either get a shot or a foul.
@iinarrab19 correct but remember we talking hypothetically. So a healthy Shaq would be terrifying. A healthy Dwight Howard was a monster so just imagine Shaq healthy 😢😢😢😢😮
@hornkneekneegrow7942 they can let Shaq has his on the offense but that heavy Shaq would never be able to keep up with the Warriors pace and a lot of screens. Draymond is right, they are gonna put him a lot in a high pick and roll and a lot of handoffs and screens. They will just try to make it hard for Shaq by denying him the ball and bring him to defend until Shaq gets tired third quarter in or get foul troubles when Steph starts attacking him or shooting uncontested threes bec kf his drop coverage
@@iinarrab19 exactly! Ppl act like Shaq and Kobe won 10 straight and couldn't be beat. Shaq can get 40 and 20 and still lose. How they guarding Golden State? They're still gonna score 120 on them while keeping a pace
The description says duo of Shaq and Kobe but also says Kd led Warriors with Steph and Klay. Why doesn't it say Shaq led if you argue FMVPs or says duo of Steph and KD. Cmon Draymond
It’s called engagement farming. Not once is KD mentioned throughout this clip. Not even Steph and Klay. But when people see those names in the headline, they will click 😊
It's a combination of factors. They made it incredibly difficult for the Lakers to bring the ball up the court by pressing inbounds, so by the time the Lakers got into their actual offensive sets they were working with little time on the clock. The Pistons were one of the few teams that actually had the personnel to sort of slow Shaq down. They focused a lot of energy on straight up denying Shaq the ball, with Ben Wallace fronting the entry passes and Rasheed Wallace getting ready to help in behind, so the Lakers would often have to make several passes around the perimeter just to create an angle to try and get the ball into Shaq, eating up more of the clock just for Shaq to have to deal with 2 All defensive players. With the attention on Shaq and Kobe, the Pistons pretty much dared the Lakers other players to beat them with jumpshooting, and the Lakers just weren't that great of a high volume shooting team outside of Kobe and Derek Fisher. Gary Payton and Karl Malone were great players but they weren't an overall good fit for the Lakers offense. Tayshaun Prince played absurdly good defense on Kobe, and Kobe's shot selection was very questionable that series forcing up extremely difficult attempts leading to poor efficiency (38% from the field/ 17% from 3), because it was clear he no longer trusted his teammates to take and make jumpshots. Like I said its a million different factors that go into the Pistons winning that series, including stuff i haven't even mentioned like the defensive rules of the era. But in short the Pistons were a pretty much perfect defensive lineup who were a horrible matchup for the Lakers, who couldn't adjust because they were used to their two stars making things happen off pure talent.
@@TOKYO9AINI disagree with that. I think LeBron the one that ruined that. He makes role players better but star players have to change their game around LeBron. He don't adjust to them.
@@anthonypierre2094 kyrie was still kyrie playin alongside Lebron kyrie isn’t a passing guard so he was able to be the scorer he is while Lebron playmakes. Shaq never had to run around and chase players thru multiple screens and get dragged on a ton of handoffs and pick and roll. Shaq would have been targetted so much and involved in all the actions. If not, he's gonna lose his defender or foul Steph or KD a lot driving to the basket. People saying this 17 Warriors are a cheat code the whole time they were playing and hated them. But now, people are acting like they are such a normal, shit team. They are ELITE offensively and DEFENSIVELY - can play multiple, different lineups, and have bench that could wipe the floor of some teams. 01 Kobe is hella inefficient and doesnt shoot threes. They would assign one player to him be it Klay, Iggy, or Shaun to bait the team into giving him the ball rather than Shaq. It's a win if Kobe takes the ball and shoot a contested midrange jumper or a three. Their only problem is Shaq. Shaq can have his. They can make it difficult by denying him the ball -- which is possible post 2001 with the implementation of zone defense (they removed prohibition). This team can just ignore someone who they can let to shoot threes.
Different Eras so its truly difficult to debate but the Kobe Shaq Lakers are not coming back from a Steph, KD, and Klay flurry. They had issues with Sacramento. They swept them in 01, won in 7 in 02, but the 17 Warriors in the finals scored no less than 113. Lakers scored no more than 107 in 01. In the 01 playoffs the most they scored was 119, Warriors in 17 scored less than 110 once all postseason.
Didn’t that warriors team struggle against cp3 and James harden and might’ve lost the series in 2018 had cp3 been available for game 6 I don’t think that rockets team is better than that kobe and Shaq team or have a better duo I think u might be underestimating Kobe and Shaq plus Phil Jackson coaching either way I think it would go 7 games 6 games at the very least
@Tjc16 i am a fan of Kobe and Shaq. That was the 2018 team which did not have the same comraderie. That's like putting the 04 Lakers into a tournament. Also James Harden/CP3 had the guard play to counteract the Warriors guard play. Realistically tho KD was being selfish. Once they went back to team ball they weren't losing with or without CP3.
@@winssports4830 but the 2018 season should be an okay year mention for them that was kd second year to be on the team just off a championship enough time for chemistry which they also won again the lakers 04 team is not even comparable there was major internal problems with Shaq and Kobe and rumors with Karl Malone having issues with Kobe plus u had Karl Malone injured Gary Payton old that wasn’t lakers in there prime 2018 warriors was warriors kd era still in their prime before all the issues the following years came up and idk I think if cp3 don’t get hurt they had a real chance to upset the warriors
@Tjc16 it is comparable because Durant had already started to have negative thoughts. He has already realized it wasn't happiness he got, and he wanted to prove he was the guy. What Boby Myers said hurt him. He played a lot of Iso ball in the playoffs and had started to shut down from Steve Kerr. This is all documented.
No zone defense and traps vs Steph curry and kd?! Bro it wouldn’t even be fair. Y’all kids don’t get it lol. Warriors shooting them off the floor in any era. Shaq drops 40 Kobe drops 30.. that’s 70. Gonna need another 40 to even compete with them bro.
You don’t have to stop shaq. You have to get more possessions than the lakers and score at a higher clip. Steph shoots a higher ts %, so it’s possible. It’s basically Steph’s efficiency vs. shaqs efficiency and KDs vs. Kobe’s. Definitely possible.
Duncan and robinson held shaq for 21 ppg in the playoffs shooting 44% but lakers still win kobe led in scoring while guarded by bowen so if duncan robinson and bowen did not contain kobe and shaq they did a great job to shaq 21 ppg still a great number but i dont know what gsw will do to shaq and kobe you need to double team both so you need 4 people to 5 people to those two. If rocket almost beat 2018 gsw if cp3 did not get injured the houston will win that series the make the gsw 7 series game
Yea no one person can stop Shaq but Rodman in 96(watch what Pip and MJ did to help) slowed him the hell down for sure....there's one key to stopping Shaq like they did in 96 and I'll let people watch and figure it out and then they'll be like oh shit okay it can be done to an extent, and enough to win a series
@r6-AgentScorpionParkerKRider23 yup. Rodman putting the body on him while mj and pip come in for swipes to pester him does a good job of frustrating Shaq. Just enough
@LungMing23 not only that but there's one more key thing that usually only defensive minded people notice...Pip and MJ hand big hands and long wingspans allowing then to clog passing lanes, and you do these things and read the passes(like they did for 4 games during that sweep) and then you force the others to either step it up or lose and in that case and against Detroit in 04 the others didn't wanna step up so they took the L....there's a common misconception that Russell never stopped Wilt because Wilt still got 45 and 21 against Russell but if you listen to Russell talk about the scheme for Wilt he said it plainly: My job was to let Wilt get his and I knew he could and would but my job was to make him work. Now I told my other guys that his other guy weren't getting a damn thing. And that's how we beat his teams. Let him get his 50 but make it not too easy for him and shut everyone else down. Worked and worked well because Wilt never got a ring until he went to the Lakers. Defense is really a team effort. One man could never stop Wilt or Shaq, but a team can...and did.
@Me-sm9qk Nuance is key. The Rockets were built to at least slow down the Warriors motion offense. They switched everything making the Warriors 1 more of something they wasn't, iso centric. They made adjustments the following year installing more simple pick and roll and spot actions to beat teams that really really good at switching. The Lakers were not a switching team and Shaq only played drop coverage. No 1 person could guard 2017 Steph or Durant and their entire offensive scheme was built on player movement, forcing teams to have to have to switch. Shaq would've had historic numbers without the allowance of the zone and really good numbers in today's rules. 2001 Kobe would've dealt with prime Klay or Iggy, but he was going to get his. Even if we say 2001 Shaq/Kobe beats 2017 Durant/Steph, it would be barely. But the Warriors would have extreme mismatches everywhere else on the court. The 1 man crew of Iverson and the pips where able to get a game. The Warriors had 2 players better than him, with a much better supporting cast. If 2001 are the rules, Warriors win in 6. Today's rules, Warriors in 5, giving up 1 game because Fox and Fisher went off.
I still remember that moment when dahntay jones bumped draymond shoulders intentionally during his post game interview and Draymond looked back lol. Good to know they cool
As a lakers fan, they almost lost a bunch of series too to the blazers, kings, and spurs. I don’t think the warriors almost losing to the rockets is evidence that they would’ve lost.
@DBreezy5 the warriors only nearly lost to these teams due to injuries lol. Why are yall acting like Iggy being out in that Rockets series wasn't a factor? KD was out in 2019 against the blazers. Say what u want but they sacrificed their depth for KD and still smoked Blazers 4-0
I like Draymond thinks that putting Shaq into a pindown to get Klay an open 3 would be advantageous for the Warriors, instead of detrimental. All it takes is Shaq getting pissed off once and deciding he's going through the screen (and accepting the foul that goes with it) for a guy like Zaza to either get injured (and be out for a series) or think twice...
Also, I wouldn't put it past a guy like Robert Horry to decide he's hard fouling Curry and getting tossed from the game to win a playoff series (I mean... he did it to Nash)
@@leg_splayer5405 I never said the Rockets team was bad, they were a good team but some people act like the Warriors with Kd was some unbeatable team, they weren’t. 01 Lakers beat 17 Warriors in 6, whether you play early 2000s rules or modern day rules. Kobe and Shaq would be fouling out half the Warriors team & they wouldnt be able to double both of them, when Houston made the Warriors play 1 on 1 basketball and kept switching everything the Warriors didnt know what to do 🤣 Cp3 plays game 7 they win
@ How would they foul out the warriors when they couldn't against other team ? It was close against the kings , btw they should have lost. 2017 is so underated defensivly. They were great. The warriors would outscore the lakers by a miles. In 2001 shaq was on his prime yes, not kobe. The warriors were all in their prime except iguodala.
@@leg_splayer5405 Kobe averaged almost 30ppg during the 2001 playoffs, this a 22 year old young athletic Kobe we talking about, who guarding him 1 on 1 because they cant double him or Shaq? NOBODY. I don't see any team beating them besides maybe the 96 Bulls. The 2001 Lakers only lost ONE game the whole playoffs during their championship run. Literally swept every single team en-route to the Finals.
Which Lakers team we talking? Talking 00-01 lakers With Ron Harper -defensive can slow Steph or klay and will make them work on The other end. I say it’s 4-1 Lakers Rider-create his own shot Horace grant-great big man and jump shooter Fox-good spot shooter
A lot of teams in that era posed challenges to the other side of the court for the Lakers and yet none of them could stop a three peat. Anybody that's delusional enough to think the Warriors would beat the 2001 Lakers is either delusional or biased because they played on that Warriors team.
So much depends on if GSW are traveling back to 2001 to play the Lakers, or if it’s the other way around. There is no question that Shaq will eat, no matter what. But there’s also no question that the Warriors would be a problem offensively for the Lakers. Of Warriors are 5 out, with 5 guys sprinting all around the court, that’s a problem for Lakers. If it was pre-KD Warriors, it would be a blood bath. But adding KD to the mix, that makes it very interesting. Not only because having another one of the greatest shooters ever on the court opens everything up more for Steph and Klay. But also you have a guy in KD who can actually get you buckets in iso situations at an extremely efficient clip. KD can just shoot over everyone, and the Lakers didn’t have the personnel to have multiple big tall physical defenders to really bother KD (like how Boston did him a couple years with Brooklyn in the playoffs). GSW only hope would be to run the Lakers ragged with their set plays, and make a lot of 3’s, while also trying to hack-a-Shaq and goad Kobe into playing hero ball. If they can’t do those things, it’s a wrap for GSW.
No one can guard Shaq but you can continue to hack him so he can miss FTs and keep the Lakers from finding a rythm. Also one team is counting by twos and another team is counting by threes. Also warriors have 3 ppl who can go for 50+ at ANY point. Lakers don't
I'm just wondering how is Shaq the most dominate player over Wilt? Is it the championships? Wilt Averaged 30pts, 23 rebounds 4.4 assists for his career which is crazy. The competition might not be the same but he was the most dominate over his competition.
These are the same people who would say can't stop Shaq and Shaq would fight a body and then Shaq would dominate but when you talk about who led that team the Kobe fans get delusional and say it was Kobe who helped led those teams. Shaq was the one and only dominant player on that team. That team overall was great even their bench players.
Shaq so dominant but somehow only when Kobe was allowed to start? Didn’t he play with penny and have 3 years in LA? He’s an all timer but def below Kobe.
People claiming nobody can stop shaq.. but the thing is the warriors doesnt have to stop shaq... shaq will get his 30 or 40+ points the same way LeBron did and warriors can still win because they have so much firepower as they have atleast 3 players who can drop 30 in any given night.. however if the warriors go cold in shooting now thats where the lakers can come out on top
Shaq would have averaged an 45/20/6 against the Durant years Lakers and still lose in 5. In any of those playoff series, Shaq averaged more than 60% from the line once. He averaged 1.31 points per shot, which was great, but Durant averaged 1.36 points per shot, Curry 1.28, and the rest of the team averaged 1.17. Mathematically, those Laker teams would have needed to make 60% of their 2 point shots OR make 40% on 20 3 point attempts just to keep up with the Warriors. Given that the Lakers in 2001 averaged less than 10 makes per game, how would they be able to compete with a team that averaged 24 more points than them from 3? Given that Shaq only played drop coverage and gave zero support from the perimeter, Steph/Klay/Durant would likely run him off the court. The 3 best 3 point shooters, best perimeter shooters, best freethrow shooters, would all be on 1 team. 2001 Kobe was really good, but not great yet. Perhaps he guards Steph... Fisher guards Klay... Who's guarding KD? Fox? Fox couldn't guard Glenn Rice. His in the world would he handle KD?
Detroit bosted the best defensive team in the league. Ben Wallace was like the Hulk. Besides that, they didn't necessarily stop Shaq or Kobe but as a team they got quality stops , elsewhere. Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace also could counter points in the paint at 6'11. Tashaun Prince, Richard Hamilton and don't forget Corleus Williams at 6'11 and 260 . You gotta at least know the roster to have a clue.
Shaq would not be stopped but he would also have to guard the Pick an roll making him a liability on the defense. That Warriors team with KD is unfair. Shaq would average 50 but Warriors in 6
@@chixxxymeister7682 Kobe is my fav player all time. Still the dubs would have had Klay, igudola, draymond to slow kobe down. Kobe and shaq could both get 50 they would still lose. Lakers have the 2 better players warriors have the better team

@ Facts no answer for Shaq or Kobe but you are forgetting about the rest of the team. They would have to chase curry an klay. Not to mention no one is guarding KD. Styles makes fights. I’ll trade 3 for 2s any day especially when the Dubs had a high efficiency rating in Defense an offense
except the Warriors would bring Shaq to a handoff to get Shaq switched on Curry or KD and attack him. Yes, nobody needs to guard Shaq. But Shaq has to guard the whole team. Kobe is fine. He can get his. Kobe is actually atrocious in 3 point and is inefficient during this time. In fact, you want to encourage Shaq passing the ball to him. Also, zone defenses were prohibited until after this championship. Zone defenses are amazing against teams with large bigs but atrocious shooters. They dont need to guard Shaq, just deny him the ball.
Man KD on the warriors made that shit unfair, but Shaq can’t be stopped at all. It would make for a great series. I agree with draymond also that Shaq doesn’t get the credit he deserves. People don’t realize Shaq at his best was better than Kobe at his best. Shaq was the number 1 reason those lakers teams 3 peated. Go look at Shaq numbers in those finals.
Shaq vs that warriors team would look like Purdue vs UConn in the national championship this year. Edey had like 40 and Purdue still lost by 20 cause UConn was the way better team. In this situation sure Shaq gets 35-40 but the warriors are just flat out better. You can’t score with the warriors Ty Lue
D. Fish and Horry are 2 of the most clutch players of all time!!! Kobe too!! I can't stand the Lakers, but just saying... I was with 2 homies who are Lakers fans, watching the '02 series vs the Kings in Miami. At the TO, I told the homies, the coach should be saying, "whatever happens don't leave Horry!!!" Horry got the ball and won the game..That's how clutch of a player he was! To this day, both of them remind me what I i said when the ball was kicked out to Horry. "Oh noooo 🤦🏾♂️..."
Kobe doesn't get the respect/acknowledgement he deserved. Acting like during that time he wasn't putting up 9 straight 40-point game streaks (and only ended at 9 because Phil asked him to dial it down since Shaq returned) and two of those games being 50-plus, and that he could've scored 80 points in 2003 if he didn't sit the entire 4th quarter. How you overlook a man that could've scored 80 points 3 times in his career is insane.
Shaq would slow the game down completely and that would take Golden State out of what they did the best run and gun three-point shooters. People forget the Lakers back then played teams like the warriors. You had the Mavericks, Sacramento, who shot the lights out. No they didn't have steph and KD but they were primarily three-point shooting teams and the Lakers just never went away from their style of play. The problem with teams now is that they try to all play the same style and that's why they lose.
I like everybody want to forget how Tim Duncan & the Spurs beat A prime Shaq & Kobe 4-2 in the 2003 semifinals then next year the Pistons beat them 4-1 in the Finals. So stop this “who’s stopping Shaq” argument cuz obviously the Spurs & Pistons did🤷🏽♂️. The KD Warriors were literally unbeatable. 2 MVPs, A DPOY, & the best 2 way SG in Klay all at their apex. Had Klay & KD not got injured in the 2019 Finals that’s easily a 3peat. Hell Lebron averaged 33ppg while Kyrie averaged 30ppg & still lost 4-1 in the 2017 Finals. End of Debate.
You also must realize that the rules were different too...way more physicality...there's barely any in today's NBA...and that's one of many reasons it's starting to suffer...fans clearly see a different NBA...
You forgot the Lakers had guys like Fox Fisher Horry Shaw Grant who were good three points shooter can make plays and were good on defense had there own shot
@LouieGuapa bro we talking about 2001 Lakers, why you talking about 2003 and 2004? If anything, Shaw and Kobe got a 3 peat and Steph and KD didn't. They probably would have if KD didn't get injured, but....they didn't. I agree with most comments - 2001 rules the Lakers win, 2017 rules Warriors win
Apparently you can guard Shaq. His TS% in 01-02 was only 59%, about league average in today's NBA. Now 59% was very good back then, it just isn't even above average today. You can say Shaq would have been more efficient today, which is probably true, but saying you can't guard him is flat out wrong. In today's NBA you don't guard him either. You just outscore him. If Shaq doesn't shoot 3's he wouldn't be such a big problem in today's NBA. Zion when healthy is just a fringe top 30 player. I believe Shaq would be at least a top 5 player and MVP candidate, but nothing close to unbeatable.
Draymond saying Shaq wasn’t going to hang in the paint defensively - who would he be chasing? Bogut? Draymond himself? He can shoot his weak jumper all night the lakers would take that. No way that’ll offset the 40 Shaq would put up easily on the those weak players.
Zaza ain’t all league or a stopper for Shaq, but he was lowkey a tree stump. Only thing that would’ve been tough for Shaq. Still side with Lue, ain’t nobody on that team stopping Shaq
yeah the warriors wouldn’t have any answer for shaq and Kobe, but there’s no way they’d outscore the 3 point shooting of curry, klay, and KD…and especially if they’re playing with todays refs. Only chance the lakers would have is if they’re using the refs from the early 2000s
No. Lol. The idea is that if Shaq sits in the paint then it becomes 5v4 outside. With the warriors' ball movement, that's a death sentence. That 17 team is matching any team in offensive efficiency at a very high clip. So Shaq scoring 40-50 ain't gonna be enough if he can't at least help keep the Warriors from matching the pace with 3s.
@terrellestephens8922 well if the warriors play 5 out, they would have to take Javale McGee, Kevon Looney, and Zaza Pachulia out of the rotation, leaving them with only 6-7 players in their rotation. It would be very hard to play at the pace that the Warriors play with only a 7 player rotation. Also, they would have to switch off between 6'7 Draymond Green and 6'9 David West guarding Shaq. Shaq shot 58% from the field against the 7'2 dikembe Mutumbo. I think it's fair to estimate Shaq would shoot at least 66% from the field against Draymond and West. The warriors would have to shoot 44% from 3 to keep up with that. Also, it would be hard for the warriors to get into a rhythm, because whoever guards Shaq would get in foul trouble. Kobe would guard Steph, and with his length and athleticism, we would do better than anyone on that Cleveland team guarding Steph. Horry would guard KD better than anyone who was in the league in 2017. Maybe the warriors are the better overall team, but when looking at the matchup, Lakers have somewhat of an answer for the Warriors shooting, Warriors have no answer for Shaq. Swap Draymond Green and David West for Ben and Rasheed Wallace, and maybe that Warriors team has a chance
Lakers fans act like the Lakers never lost games at all and didn't also lose the next year. Shaq didn't average 50. Him and Kobe are going to get there's, the rest are going to lose them the game.
If the Warriors want to run they’re gonna have to go small…now what’s stopping the Lakers from walking down the court and dishing it to shaq in the paint? It took the CP3 and Harden Rockets 30 missed threes to lose to the warriors in 7 😂

There would be no answer for Shaq (or Kobe, for that matter) but you gotta talk about the other side, too. That LA team was great defensively but they not built to guard three dudes who will shoot 40% from 30 feet out, all shooting 5-10 3's per game lmao. All three will hit you with a middy too. Two out of those three (KD and Steph) can get to the paint and float or lay you to death if you get too close. That LA team wasn't built to switch everything like modern teams, just due to era difference, which is a huge problem for them. You not getting through every screen for 48 minutes. That .5 seconds is enough for that three to get fired off. I could see it going either way fr but I think GSW is too good top to bottom.

Freethrows is the biggest factor. Shaq will not be playing long if he doesn't make more than half of his Freethrows.
I think the Warriors pace would be the biggest issue for LA.
That’s what I be saying. I love this debate bc it’s actually a good one lowkey

@@louislikethisTy Lue mentions KD within the first minute of this clip...
How did Detroit beat shaq an kobe
By then Shaq was chubby and slower
Shaq, Kobe, GP and Karl Malone

Their only hope is to get them in foul trouble and muck up the game. Sorry thats not going to be good enough. Shaq can average 40 idc.

@Me-sm9qk
Nuance is key.

Thank god the ref gave the W to the lakers against the kings.

No team in this era would have been beaten that Lakers team.
1 play… pick n roll, pull Shaq to guard the perimeter.. Steph, klay or KD.. Shaq would’ve been useless on defense at that point.
Shaq gonna shoot 80%. I'm gonna let draymon shoot.
The warriors run the triangle , they’re mimicking the Lakers triangle so Phil Jackson would know what they’re gonna run
@@pickyourfaceup384He would get double team every time he touch the ball and he will be out of gas to run every possesion.
Shaq so dominant but somehow only when Kobe was allowed to start? Didn’t he play with penny and have 3 years in LA? He’s an all timer but def below Kobe.
That Warriors team would be too deep for any version of the Lakers.
SMH LOL Dray put the weed down gang
Thank you, former pro players, for telling your own stories.
Baron davis hair is crazy lol
If it’s 2001-2002 lakers in 6. If it’s 2014 warrior in 5
Depends on who is reffing
Demarcus cousins warriors team would smacked that team forsure….
The Lakers will win against KD n warriors and Shaq can sit paint and force the warriors to make green score by not guarding him
Shaq would have averaged an 45/20/6 against the Durant years Lakers and still lose in 5.
2004 Pistons sure figured out tne Shaq/Kobe mystery
Why didn’t Dray ask him bout Bulls vs Warriors
Shaq would not be stopped but he would also have to guard the Pick an roll making him a liability on the defense. That Warriors team with KD is unfair. Shaq would average 50 but Warriors in 6
You forget a guy named Kobe.
@@chixxxymeister7682 Kobe is my fav player all time. Still the dubs would have had Klay, igudola, draymond to slow kobe down. Kobe and shaq could both get 50 they would still lose. Lakers have the 2 better players warriors have the better team
@@coolieduecer1181What team ever slowed Kobe in his prime..with a prime Shaq...Golden State only has one decent defender...maybe two..but Draymond has no chance against Shaq...
@@all4right702Detroit Pistons shut Kobe down
Draymond is forgetting Shaq would just guard him and let him shoot like teams do now 🤷♂️
except the Warriors would bring Shaq to a handoff to get Shaq switched on Curry or KD and attack him.
Draymond was a decent shooter back then in the corner. Seems like everybody forget that.
You don't need to stop shaq.
Dray would of fouled out in the first quarter. Then when you were exhausted guarding shaq here came Kobe 😆 what a time man
Dramond would have been first to foul out defending Shaq.. And that was enough to stall Golden state plays.
At the TO, I told the homies, the coach should be saying, "whatever happens don't leave Horry!!!"
Horry got the ball and won the game..That's how clutch of a player he was!
To this day, both of them remind me what I i said when the ball was kicked out to Horry. "Oh noooo 🤦🏾♂️..."
Can't be clutch in a blowout 🤷🏾♂️
Kobe doesn't get the respect/acknowledgement he deserved. Acting like during that time he wasn't putting up 9 straight 40-point game streaks (and only ended at 9 because Phil asked him to dial it down since Shaq returned) and two of those games being 50-plus, and that he could've scored 80 points in 2003 if he didn't sit the entire 4th quarter. How you overlook a man that could've scored 80 points 3 times in his career is insane.
They shooting the lakers right out the gym.
Slow the game down in one end only.
Can you say who is slowing down Shaq on those Warriors teams? Also, those FMVPs that KD and Steph got were because they never meet Shaq in the finals
Spurs had a 3 man center rotation and Tim Duncan at PF...Lakers sweep easily
@LouieGuapa bro we talking about 2001 Lakers, why you talking about 2003 and 2004? If anything, Shaw and Kobe got a 3 peat and Steph and KD didn't. They probably would have if KD didn't get injured, but....they didn't. I agree with most comments - 2001 rules the Lakers win, 2017 rules Warriors win
I don’t foul that much refs just don’t like me 😂😂😂😂
if the shaq & kobe lakers couldn't overcome the '04 pistons, how would they overcome the kd & curry warriors??
We talking about 2001 prime physically Kobe & Shaq not old shaq malone Payton
@@Dthreat__6Bro it's just 3 years after
Apparently you can guard Shaq.
While Shaq gettin 2’s, KD & Steph are draining 3’s. Warriors in 7
Who stopping kobe ? Thats what I thought
You had to double Kobe and Shaq. Lakers in 5.
Draymond saying Shaq wasn’t going to hang in the paint defensively - who would he be chasing? Bogut? Draymond himself? He can shoot his weak jumper all night the lakers would take that. No way that’ll offset the 40 Shaq would put up easily on the those weak players.
It’s called a high pick buddy
@@igolsedzro6898older players wouldn’t switch buddy.
@@Dmg6um now you have Shaq on kd bc you switched buddy
@@igolsedzro6898 you missed the point of my reply, and clearly didn’t watch that laker team play. Happy new year.
Zaza ain’t all league or a stopper for Shaq, but he was lowkey a tree stump. Only thing that would’ve been tough for Shaq. Still side with Lue, ain’t nobody on that team stopping Shaq
As a Laker fan nobody beating that GSW team you literally have to chase Steph and Klay all night then gotta worry about KD that’s unguarable at 7ft
U aint no laker fan buddy😂 u forgettibg kobe
@ I am I’m just not bias like yall
The Kings took the Lakers to game 7 and the Pistons beat the Lakers. Warriors definitely have a chance
yeah the warriors wouldn’t have any answer for shaq and Kobe, but there’s no way they’d outscore the 3 point shooting of curry, klay, and KD…and especially if they’re playing with todays refs. Only chance the lakers would have is if they’re using the refs from the early 2000s
Sooo Shaq has to come out of the paint to guard Zaza Pachulia, Javale McGee, and Kevon Looney? 🤔
No.
Shaq is the reason for the zone, you couldn't play him 1 on 1.
I guess Shaq will be on the perimeter defending GS shooters at an Elite level 😂
Man Shaq ain’t gotta worry about guarding Draymond lolol let alone Looney or Bogut
This reminds me Julio Caesar cheves LeBron and mj mayweather
Lmao didn’t know dahntay and dray were cool after that incident in 2015 haha😂
All the warriors gotta do is pull Shaq out the pain
If the Warriors want to run they’re gonna have to go small…now what’s stopping the Lakers from walking down the court and dishing it to shaq in the paint? It took the CP3 and Harden Rockets 30 missed threes to lose to the warriors in 7 😂
who is going to guard shaq in the 4th quarter when all the big men fouled out.
Remember Shaq and Kobe lost 4-1 to Detroit in the finals so there was a way to beat them.
But the warriors aint no defensive team rho 😂😂😂 they aint stopping shaq n kobe
This Lakers team sweep the 96 Bulls!!
Robert Horry, Rick Fox and Devean George can guard KD. Who will guard Shaq? Zaza? Javel? David West?😂
Kobe needed a stack team to win without Shaq!!! Kobe couldn’t get the best out of any of his teammates who were so called below him!! They resented him way more than they feared him!
Name one Hall of Famer or Top 75 all timer who played on Kobe's back-to-back winning team. Use what you saw as insight instead of copy and pasting social media sentiments, son. Now get to work.
If Detroit beat the Lakers that should tell yall the Warriors at least gotta chance. The Lakers gonna start fouling on 3s because the Warriors would make so many and they would start early.
Nobody stopping Kobe either and I mean nobody
Zaza Pachulia vs Shaq 😂😂💀💀
They overate that Lakers squad because that same Lakers team lost to the Pistons who didn’t have nowhere near the talent of Shaq and Kobe
The warriors ain’t messing with that 2001 lakers! Shaq the most dominant big man ever! God rest his soul (Mamba🕊️🙏) Kobe who’s guarding him? Oh and klay good luck cause you getting locked up by Kobe! D fish would give Steph problems esp young DFish!!
