Respiration is arguably the greatest hip hop song of all time and I've been willing to die on that hill for 20+ years.
The weight of the imagery in each verse, the way they floated between the beat, the subtle feeling of tension and anxiety as they play the role of observer to the city. Not to mention the intellect of their bars as whole and how it's stood the test of time.
The trifecta is insane. All 3 of them knew the assignment.

So sad that there's multiple generations now that don't understand the caliber of talent and art and entertainment they missed out on. Takes dudes in their 50s to still bring better than almost anyone that came after. AND SO MANY people from this era could hold it down like this. Ive had the pleasure of meeting every one of these guys back when i did venue security in the mid 2000's. Dave Chappelle in my opinion is probably the greatest orator we've seen. Man motivates, responds, claps back, challenges your thought process, etc in a 45-55 minute set. Also being able to keep his integrity and outwardly be his authentic self at all times. We need more Chappelles amd Anthony Bourdains.

I literally refuse to believe Black Star was anything without the trifecta of Mos Def, Talib, and DJ Hi-Tek. I grew up on lyricists lounges, soundbombings, reflection eternal. Hi-Tek made black star who they are, who talib solo is, who in turn Kanye is, what the golden era is. Where the Tekzilla roses wtf we talking about?

He made them who they are ? Really? It was mutual exchange would he have gotten his foot in the door as a producer if he didn’t get to produce those 4 tracks on the album ? Mos Def had an acting career been in Medina Green and debuted on a De La Soul classic album Stakes is High he was a signed solo artist on Rawkus before linking with Talkib or HI Tek. Of course he deserves his flowers but saying this is bullshit.
