  • Steamfest's 2019 race was between 3529 "the Nanny" and 3265 "Hunter".
The race is captured from just south of Hanbury Junction through to Maitland from on 3526's train.
Both trains had a 44 class diesel on the rear.
Check out the race from on 3265's train: • Australia: Great Steam...

How does a big steam loco get the poncy moniker Nanny? For goodness sake lose that quick!

Make no mistake, everybody thinks steam loco,s are slow, i have followed many to get photos video etc, they get along very well thank you, 50--60 mph is normal, if pushed they would do 75--80. The UK when people all traveled to work by train not cars, they averaged 70--80 mph everyday some went over 100 mph.

Question: Why is there a tank wagon behind the engine, and wht is there almost always a diesel at the rear end of the rack?

The tank is for extra water. These days there are very few locations where the loco can take on water. The diesel is for "security", as the race is on a very busy section of track. The diesel also hauled the train from Maitland to the race start point.

Good videos, can,t just pull the pin out get RID of dirty diesel hanging the back, ha ha. Otherwise great love the videos. Two steam loco,s side by side WONDERFUL i wish i had been there to enjoy that! In New Zealand generally single track except in yards, when we do see steam loco,s ( rarely nowadays ) if there are it two it would a double header.
