I have been using Rouvy for a few months now and would absolutely recommend it over other platforms. A few pointers to note. When in the main screen (where you can choose your route) - the bottom right corner also allows you to choose an event - ie a race or even a workout (of which there are a load pre installed or you can import from other platforms like Training Peaks. Also, Rouvy now has a companion app. You do need to have your phone on the same wifi connection as the main device - but it allows you to set laps, view the route map, see current ride stats as well as an elevation profile with overall ascent left and for the "omni" routes you can change camera angles. Oh, and some of the Rouvy routes also have "live" strava segments, so you can attempt real world KOMs - with a virtual KOM avatar there to help you keep pace. If anyone hasnt tried it out yet - i think that you can get a 15 day trial - and as far as i can recall - you can add a coupe of family members to your plan for free.
the first ride i ever did on Rouvy was the far less globally iconic, but certainly iconic in England, cat and fiddle climb in Mac. i rode that countless times as a kid and the memory of the low, and in a few spots, moderate gradient is still etched in. Rouvy did a great job of recreating that memory. I also once crashed on the S-bend section of the descent heading back into Mac (clipped my pedal on the high curb) fortunately Rouvy didn't recreate that! It was a cracking throwback compared to the flat roads of Florida i have been living since 1994.
If you are looking for a couple of good - short - medium distance climbs on Rovy ... Passo Fedaia - Dolomites - Italy | Max 16% & Full route AVG 5% - 221.1km & 1100m up Mt. Etna - Sicily - Italy | Max 13% & Full route AVG 6% - 22.23 km & 1370m up for short flat TTs or warm up routes - Tokyo and Vegas are idea
I oscillate between Zwift and Rouvy. Ideally I’d prefer the features of Zwift with the real life footage of Rouvy. If I just had one if chose Rouvy for it’s vastly superior long climb options.
I really like Rouvy. One really under-rated feature is the steepness graph on the top left. It's nice and large and gives excellent feedback on the exact steepness that's coming up just seconds ahead. So you can adjust the gears as necessary, and also confidently hammer the top bit of a climb knowing full well exactly when it levels out. I find the equivalent thing on Zwift pretty crap. It's way too small and you don't get the fine granular level of steepness detail.
I have been riding Rouvy for over 4 years now, I agree with you, it is a lot more realistic to what you would ride outside. Zwift I could ride 25-26 mph no problem and I can’t ride anywhere near that in real life
Good to see you back Cam! Keep the content coming lad 😆 Interesting results from the test. It's good to see that some of the online cycling platforms are giving back a sense of realism. Would love to ride those roads for real haha well jealous 😂
That tunnel used to be proper scary when it wasn’t lit. We used to ride through it by just aiming for the tiny white dot at the end whilst riding in complete darkness!
Good idea to compare the routes, never thought of that before even though I have been riding Rouvy for some time now. And I was fortunate to visit Cap De Formetor real-life and can only say how beautiful it was! will repeat on Rouvy in the coming days.
great video- can you use Rouvy in the view where you do not see your bike (maybe called first person) but are seeing the road in ROuvy like you see the real road? if so, does it still show me my W/kg? thanks for a response.
My fear of heights would prevent me from ever trying the real route. For people like me apps like these are the only way to experience climbs like these. (Obviously if I could just stop being afraid I would)
Love the realistic routes if stuck in a garage during the winter 🥶, then we can pretend to be megastars and jet off somewhere hot 😜. I did notice that it seemed blurry at times. Is that your recording device, does it need a powerful computer/graphics or is the platform not quite perfect. I've only used Zwift but see the potential 👍
I think the blurring you saw was part of the augmented reality processing, they tend to blur out the periphery of the video. I actually prefer using the non augmented rides, you are at the mercy of the quality of the author's equipment and their editing skills, but they are the video captured as it was ridden.
How’s that working for you now? I joined Rouvy for a bit so I can save enough money to Zwift for a few months. I asked my boss for a 38% raise but no luck.
Rouvy looks really good but I really don’t like the delayed 3rd person view where the camera sits so far behind , can’t even see your character going into a hairpin

Mint! Thanks cam for introdicing me to rouvy!
Enjoying the transitions Cam
I definitely think I'd prefer Rouvy over Zwift, way more realistic. Nice video Cam!

Never knew you were Irish Cam.
Probably has it because it’s a stronger passport than UK one, he’ll have ancestral connections to ROI
Top content Cam, look forward to more.
Great video dude. Good choice of music as well.
Did ribble let you keep the bike then?

Love mallorca....
Best place i have ever ridden
More rouvy content pleassse. Like you doing the hardest rouvy climbs 2000m+ climbed etc
Can I Rouvy wearing my VR headset for immersive ride?
Not at the moment I guess in the future VR indoor cycling will be the next rage.
Damn, sucks would’ve liked to join but I’ve only got Zwift & sticking with it 😅
How’s that working for you now?

I will stick to zwift, it feels more immersive to me
Literally just fly to majorca for a day to do that segment? Haha
Not very environmentally friendly
In his private jet no less….
There are plenty of nice rides on Rouvy right on his home country, haha

I don’t mind R at all. I used it instead Zwift last year
Im guessing this will end any zwift content 😂 gutted
Would be nice to hear your optioon Rouvy a bit more... But guess when they sponsoring you gotta only say nice things?
Is that a VonDutch hat?
Flying to and from Mallorca from the UK for one ride? What a terrible waste for the climate.
Notification team!
Irish Passport??
Loads of Brits with Irish blood did this my mate included, get to travel round Europe without red tape thanks to bloody brexit 🙄
He was born in Norther Ireland.
