    Where was this video when I was 14 and too ADHD to learn scales?
    This is gonna be invaluable to a 47 year old who's in a riff writing dry spell and needs some inspiration.

    Always funny to me that the Byzantine scale is seen as evil knowing it's a scale used a lot in Greek orthodox religious chants

      It's the "Middle Eastern" scale for me. Nile uses it a lot.

    Interesting. When I noodle around, my ear tends to lean towards the Byzantine scale. I didn't even realize that until now!

      I mean, when you think about it, metal is basically just blues, but with the energy cranked up to 11. Lots of rock and metal sorta stuff comes from blues, most notably the use of copious amounts of distortion

    Scott another good one man. I think you'll really explode by putting this educational stuff out there. Maybe some metal analysis, but the more educational it gets, the more people dig it. I like the format, too. Very hard to misinterpret. Most people show you a scale 80000 times like there's no pause button or something. lol

    You can do really neat things with the whole tone scale. I learned about it singing some Randall Thompson pieces in college choir - it can sound very disorienting without being overly dark or dissonant. Great video!

    Love that custom mockingbird, the mockingbird is my daily driver, I have a mockingbird one only one pickup bridge and one pot I have chucks x2n in there. I'm building a special mockingbird but it's crossed with another bc rich body shape a certain hard to tune guitar. To name it I have to change two letters. Carved the body from ash have the shape still 6in thick might be a archtop. To bad bc rich hasn't built anything for years

    Awesome Scale Choices. I think you could've added the Hirajoshi scale too. Some other 5 note pentatonic scales or ragas sound evil too. However they are just parts of those scales minus 2 notes.

    As for the chords: say, I want to go all hungarian (because who wouldn't?) in the root of A - so I take the set of notes starting from A, and go wild building powerchords with them and Sus4-chords? Any guidelines for a proper start if you wanna get evil? Thanks a lot!
