Fun fact. There is an Australian saying " fair dinkum" which means Honesty, openness & sincerity. They say that word comes from England but I strongly believe it comes from the phrase, " 真金" (Real Gold) which goes back to time 1800s when Irish and Chinese settlers were mining for Gold and so when gold was found and sold to the Royal Mint, I guess that term "Real Gold" or 真金 which i am guessing became a daily Australian saying. ... Ohh sorry the Chinese character is wrong! LOL I am half Singaporean where i grew up in Singapore. I am more use to hearing Hokkian So i feel at home in North Point HK island but my partner, she is Hong Kongese proud Cantonese. So I am learning. I realise Singaporean English or Singlsh has borrowed a lot from Cantonese as well which i love comparing these terms with my GF. But yeah Cantonese is such a rich and fun language. .
