I am pretty sure most of the development team at MtG watches ATO. How fun must it be for them to see the cards they invented, used in completely bonkers and (likely) unanticipated ways. And it is a great resource as well: we need Timmy and Spike cards; but we most certainly couldn't do without Johnny and Seth cards :D. They are the cards that spark kitchen-table dreams.
This is it! I was a step away from figuring out how to do all the ultimatums in a single deck...it was Unpredictable Cyclone! I was originally exploring options with that card, but it was meant to be about playing the humongous cycling uncommon creatures through the Cyclone trigger. Now after imagining an all the Ultimatums deck, this was the video I needed. Thanks Seth!

I much prefer the "what am I doing with my life" intros, since there is an expectation we will see it pop off at some point. It's like the early obstacle to be overcome narrative and makes it more exciting.
Robert M I wish the comments gave a time stamp to a pop off though. I don’t always have time to watch the entire video length of hour and a half. I just want the highlight. Having the highlight at the beginning made it easy for me
Thanks! Based on feedback I've been trying to say away from "the deck does its thing" highlights for the intro and instead go for memes or cliffhangers.
@@MTGGoldfish yeah biggest thing for me is either I've seen enough against the odds to know the jankest lists will still go off at least once and that the intro will explain what is being attempted so the payoff feels a bit like if they lead a tv show by showing the plot climax in the opening credits.
This intro hit much more of the "what did that Seth get himself into this week?" type of feel. Loved this deck, it put a smile on my face for the duration which is a pretty big deal to me these days, thank you.

@@somefishhere I hate highlights in the beginning. It's the same as if a TV show does the "Next time on XXX" and then spoils the next episode.
I like to think that opponents who scoop the match after game one haven't decided to quit magic; they've decided to quit their deck and go build your deck for themselves. And I like to think you spent the entire Lurrus match worrying about 3 cmc permanents that might be in the main deck to show us all that we worry too much.

The most amazing part about zirda is that it makes your cycling cheaper including shark typhoon such that it basically costs x: make x/x shark. Had that combo in limited and it was absolutely busted there.
This year I decided I would give up on Magic but I wasn't going to give up watching your videos but I haven't been able to get into any of the recent decks but this one says this is the one that brought me back

This is one of my fav Against the Odds ever. This is exactly the type of pile I love to play
I watched part of this on my VR headset which makes it appear large enough to be a full IMAX cinematic experience. It worked surprisingly well.
Good lord the Narset +1 visual effect is so over-the-top for such a tiny effect. I love it.
This video shows how to play standard
Step1: ramp
Step2: play an overpowered red (or sometimes green) enchantment
Step3: win with insanly efficient 7-drops

The opp casting Claim the Firstborn at 1:19:47 to get surprise lethal was a pretty impressive line- luckily you had Growth Spiral to make a chump blocker but that would have been quite the turn around
I don't get why you'd want to tick down Narset there at 35:15 when you can just tick it up, gain 2 life and still cast the Cyclone...

It needs a Kenrith to give all those flying sharks haste, and as another search target for Emergent Ultimatum.
Once Kenrith could be worth it. Emergent Ultimatum could use another good target or two.

The sad thing about Lurrus: it's the only Companion you can't have as a companion and also in your deck.
I mean, this companion also doesn't work for itself as it has no activated abilities.

I built the jeskai version with no ultimatums, just cycling helix and the kraken maker and cycle turtle. Cycling 1 generic bears into 8/8 hasty turtles.
The best part about shark typhoon is that actually a pretty decent card

This is me learning Cycling counts as an "activated ability" for Zirda...
You pay a cost and an ability goes on the stack without a cast, sounds like an activated ability to me :p
@@smolclips5996 yeah but i usually think of activated abilities existing only on permanents, in the vein of pushing a button on a machine. Also i've never played with cycling cards before so this is a whole new mechanic for me.
Yup! That's also how Sharknado gets around teferi. Since you can instant speed at end of turn a flying threat that can't be countered. It's really cool.

What a fun deck! I think you should probably pack Grafdiggers Cage in all your Standard sideboards. It hates on both Rakdos Sacrifice and Gyruda Combo

I picked up Shark Typhoon for my EDH deck and did a double take on the price spike.

The scariest part of this deck is, replace cyclone with fires of invention, put fae of wishes in the main and the ultimatums in the sideboard and you have a tier standard deck
When you play lotus field, shouldn’t you always sac lands of different names in case of eerie ultimatum?
I was thinking that as well but then i saw he tried to keep multicolor lands in play to try to play the ultimatums easier
That's tough. I think that different names is a consideration because of Eerie Ultimatum, but a bigger concern is trying to keep lands that allow us to hardcast various Ultimatums when we draw them.
If we had more Eerie Ultimatums it would be a bigger concern, but with 8 total Ultimatums and just one Eerie Ultimatum it think keeping dual lands is usually right in this deck, even if it does make our Eerie Ultimatums slightly worse.
Haven't watched any MTGGoldfish in a while. "Five-Color Unpredictable Sharknado Ultimatums" well I gotta see this.

I was expecting flying sharks out of that cyclone. That isn't the only thing that came out of it.

I actually made a variation of this deck focusing on the cyclone/typhoon combination. I didn't add the ultimatums, but I may need to look into it...

I built a deck like this but as a living end deck, cycle all your big creatures than cyclone into eerie ultimatum to reanimate the whole yard, it’s called “round the twist” on MTGoldfsh if anyone’s interested

Altered this a little toward black, added two casualties and one copy of the black cycling sorcery, plus bolas Planeswalker and OMG the performance I'm getting in ladder lol
I feel like there was a misequencing game two against the elemental deck. I feel like the turn you played the Lotus Field, you could have used your Narset to add blue and played your basic forest to cast Growth Spiral and then play the Lotus Field. It ended up not mattering because you won, but I feel like that was the correct line of play.

the thing I like the most is that Seth didn't read his opponents companion. Mayhem Devil is CMC 3, wich breaks the companion clause of only having CMC 2 or down
