Played against an interesting Against the Odds style deck yesterday that was looping Open the Omenpaths with Vadrok, using the heron mutator and Pollywog Symbiote to keep drawing cheap mutators.
I've been trying to build n opitmal build of that myself and wanted to as soon as I saw Open spoiled, though I don't think Heron is good. Birgi is nuts if you can get her on the field. Goldspan Dragon also is amazing with Mutate and you can easily get infinite mana, infinite damage, infinite Shark Tokens from Shark Typhoon if you have something like Unsubstantiate to bounce the Mutate stack. I use See the Truth and Valakut Awakening to find Mutators to go off and both are great with Vadrok.
I've played against this deck like 4 times, no clue why Vadrok doesn't exile the card it casts from the graveyard. Everybody loooves decks that combo win on turn 4-5 in standard.
This deck in my opinion would work better with graven lore over skelds. He doesn't really need the pure draw just need to find the cards he needs. Also being at instant speed he doesn't need to worry about counters as much. Or at least Behold the Multiverse. In either case I think splashing red just for skelds seems bad especially because he has counter spells.
@@stephenhousman6975 can’t copy graven lore lol whole point of the deck is to copy stuff. If ur putting in instant card draw u just dump the orvar plan and become control
I wonder how it would work if you swapped the Showdown for Omen of the Sea. Seems like the primary reason for Showdown is that it's a permanent that draws cards.
@@Hibadell I know that but Showdown seems to cause some clunkiness to the deck. Sure 1 game showed some sweet things with it but it doesn't help when you are torn between playing the removal spell vs. holding up a counter. If he had lore he can get his card draw and leave up his counters.
As an Arena Free to Play player, I tend to see what Mythics I get and build decks around them, it's a fun challenge... and as someone who's already hit 3 Orvars, it's on the list, so I'm super excited to see this.
Have seen Mono Black's Orvhar deck? It uses Nissa to animate Mystic Sanctuary and then you target Mystic Sanctuary with a cantrip spell, targeting the Sanctuary to create a new one which stacks your cantrip to rinse and repeat ad infinitum.
"Why did I spend so long on this?" Literally I feel the same way every time I finish editing one of my videos. It always feels worth it once I see the finished product though, and I hope sushiske feels the same. Keep up the good work!
Embereth Paladin seeing more and more 1-2x sideboard play out of mono red for the ultimatum/control matchups. Dodges heartless act, glass casket, and is a surprisingly painful threat to drop post wrath. Pretty terrible against stomp but that's why it lives in the board.
You know the editor is doing a good job cuz these intros do a better job of making me want to like a comment more than any "Only x% of you are subscribed" stuff.
I edit to entertain! I think that’s probably the best thing about the fact that I’m able to work for/with goldfish, I can just have fun and essentially do whatever I want to experiment as long as I edit the videos and make sure they’re all good! A lot of other places value things like engagement through saying ‘smash that like button and leave a comment’ but I’m all about organic engagement, I’d rather just have fun, craft some entertainment and, well, it seems to be working!
To my knowledge, Against the Odds is more of a challenge to win above all odds, and Much Abrew is like a joyride of a cool looking deck/brew. But, can’t say for sure, I’m sure that @mtggoldfish/Saff will have a better answer aha
1:29:00 why didn't you just use your Skyclave to exile theirs? Showdown would have put a counter on one of your guys, giving you exactly 9 power and they'd be out of blockers while tapped out completely. Bam, dead right there, no risk of them top-decking into a wrath to reset the board, which could well have happened on that following turn. I think you'd have won by clock anyway, they ended at 50 seconds, but seems like a safer move than just making some dorks and hoping it worked out.
I made an esper orvar deck that's pretty fun, took some inspiration from this, don't have a ton of rare wildcards so I just winged it and ended up doing better than I have before through ranked. I plan to splash some red later on for that saga though, seems wayyyy too good with Orvar copying it.
Editor, you may have spent a lot of time on this intro, but I want you to know that I did commit tiny laugh while I watched it, and that is honestly very much appreciated
Let's Look at the scenario at 1:29:26. Seth has 13 mana. TLDR Seth had lethal by countering his own stuff He can adventure the sheperd targeting the angel and negate his own adventure. He now has 2 angels and 14 life. The original angel has 3 power now due to showdown. 10 mana left. Then, targeting the summoning sick token, he can adventure the other sheperd and flicker of fate in response, getting 2 more orvar triggers. When the first trigger resolves, an angel will enter, putting seth up to 22 life. Seth then casts mystical dispute on the flicker, declining to pay for it. The second orvar trigger resolves, creating another angel and putting seth up to 34 life. Then the sheperd resolves and seth loses 1 of the angels. Now, to recap, seth has 3 angels, one of which is not summoning sick. He has 5 counters on this particular angel from showdown (casting 2 adventures, dispute, negate, and flicker), making its power 8 without any buffs. The 3 angels all give it +2/+2 because seth has more than 27 life, giving it 14 power. Lethal.
in that epic match agaisnt esper yorion control, why do you keep pumping the orvar when you can pump the angels? they would be protected from elspeth nightmare and you would have a big enough blocker and or attaquer
Hey Seth, I run the selective memory deck in modern and was wondering what you think I should use in place of the spirit guides now that they're banned? I was thinking maybe more control pieces
1:45:30 why not respond to the Usher with Usher? Same result except you get 2 copies of Showdown in play. No reason to use it on Orvar as you already had one in hand so might as well have two copies of Showdown ticking instead of one.
Has anybody tried Orvar, Mythos of Illuna, and Battle for Bretagard? Not sure how good it would be and it's a lot of wildcards to spend, but it sounds really silly
seth might be a bit addicted to card advantage i felt like there was times where he could have been blinking his creatures but went for the showdown for no real value had multiple cards gone to exile
1:54:44 Why put the Pathway on white? You don't use the mana so you revealed a card in your hand, wasted your Emria's Call, and didn't even get color fixing from it.
"Why did I spend so long on this?" Because your intros are hilarious and you know we love them A LOT

1:29:25 why wouldn't you just skyclave the skyclave and win right there.
I was trying to figure out why he didnt do this as well. Had to reread cards to make sure I wasnt crazy
