I bought ANOTHER Smart Car ... this time a 2011 Smart ForTwo Night Orange edition. One of only 235 ever made!
Why? Well because my Smart 450 is getting on in its life and the colour ... well I just fell in love with it.
In this video I take the car to Dad to get his genuine first reaction to the car and hopefully get his seal of approval ... will it be another money pit? Or will he love it?

I hope you have realised by now , the front hood has two plastic hooks on so that it just sits on the front open so you don't scratch it , Jon ... I like it 😎👌

I have a similar Android unit in my 2010 Edition Highstyle and it works flawlessly for Apple carplay - the subwoofer and tweeters still work and it's so much better than the old system. I know the Bosch Highline system in the facelifted model like your original tends to be unreliable and slow to use.
I haven't had a good look at the android unit yet but it might be staying 🙂

A lot of the tow frames for motorhomes also link to the brake pedal, so that is probably why someone has been at that in the past

Spongy brakes can be caused by front brake caliper sliding pins being seized. The front panel has two large hooks built into the rear and there are two rectangular holes just above the grill for them to slot into so the panel isn't flapping around on it's safety strap while you are filling the washer fluid etc. It's a better design than the 450 IMO.

What’s not to like about removing the front panel to top up the washer fluid and check the fluid levels? Really easy! Only thing that I don’t like is that the panel isn’t lockable. 😏
I think we are still hung up on the design of my 450 😂

Look on the front grill there’s two levers you pull to release the bonnet the washer bottle is under there hopefully this helps

Seems an oddly agricultural method of accessing the washer bottle for such a 'modern' hi-tec car!
Reminds me of the 'car of the future' from The Story of the Motor car Ladybird book i had as a child - the car everyone was going to be driving by the year 2000 due to the chronic congestion problems.

You see them being towed behind motorhomes quite often. Stick your A-Class motorhome on site then you use the Smart Car to get around easily.
By the way saw a guy in a local supermarket he was driving his wife's Brabus one - I had a word and put him on to your YT channel and all the socials

ALL the back end needs to come off along with the rear crash bar to get to the exhaust. I hope yours is the cheap one .... I had two quotes for my exhaust (not quite the same as yours) £140 & £800+
We have found that out this week! New exhaust coming soon

Engine out to work on it will be lot easier 😂😂. Not to be funny or nasty but it's rusty under it for 2011😂. That's saying something coming from a Scotsman and a man that owns an Audi and lives next to the Sea 😂.

this engine only has 3 plugs ... all easy to reach!

The engine in that Smart car is a 3 cylinder 1.1 from the Mitsubishi colt but its de-tuned from what i remember i know this as i owned a 2007 Colt in the past very good fast cars 120mph from a 1.1 its also in the Toyota Yaris from what i know too but why they de-tuned it for the Smart I do not know?

The Colt used engines from the 3A9 (three cylinder) and 4A9 (four cylinder) series . The Smart's engine is from the 3B2 series which was developed specifically for Kei cars. The 3B2 series engines are all under 1.0L and there is no equivalent four cylinder version.

I actually cringed when I saw you start the car without checking it was in neutral while your dad was lying underneath the back ! On saying this I do not know the exact nature of the quirky gearbox but after 50 years of driving you did make me jump !
Don't cringe. I knew it wasn't in gear. (We had just done a take that didn't work so it was a retake - sorry to spoil the behind the scenes magic a bit 😂)
Good advice though. Always make sure she's out of cog!
