LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH. Yes Naoki and The gang have always been hella drivers but Man you've gained my respect as a human being to be able to humbly put yourself in a n uncomfortable position for growth and to genuinely speak about your flaws with NO EGO IN IT!! Man I wish you the best on this journey to take your driving to the next level and I wish you nothing but granted desires man
Thank you so much for filming this culture . I dont know if you have noticed but it doesn't get filmed much hahaha

    Sam read this!
1.24 in and I’ve paused to write this and it needs to be said.
You can drive, we see that everytime your in the chaser or your just ficking around having fun BUT you can’t compete. Come comp time your ego always gets the better of you and it’s very easy to see it from the outside and also very easy to see it for yourself. And I can prove it to you.
Go back and watch your last comp vid.
Listen to the 15 in practice then listen to it during the comp and then pay attention to the sound of the chaser at the end of the video.
You will hear that you have a job and you want to learn and do it in the practice.
Then listen to your ego take over at comp time, limiter-limiter, high rpm and not being able to control the car because again your ego needs to show off and unfortunately it’s just been embarrassing to watch over and over again. Then watch the final scene with the chaser, listen to your foot control, your throttle control, watch your hands and watch the transformation of no ego, just a bloke with his car enjoying and doing what he loves.
This is not an attack in anyway shape or form it’s simply the observation from the outside.
The only seat time car you should be driving every single time at any track anywhere is the 15.
You need seat time until it feels like it has 300kw and your brain understands that it’s a competitive sport not a show off show and you learn to play the game.
Points is what you need to be chasing and that means atleast actually taking part of the event that matters.
Your mentality not ready and you don’t know your car.
We are a few years deep of excuses now mate, you have grown up, you are a dad, you are a husband, treat your comp drifting in the same way you pick up your son, slowly, gently and smooth so you don’t hurt him.
It’s not a smoke show it’s a comp, comp needs points to win, come time put your fucking ego back in your ass and play the fucking game and get some points.
    Fellow Australian
    Love ya

This video has changed my mind about you and I hope you stick to this way of thinking. Far to many dudes think they've clocked drifting and its hurting the sport. If everyone had the attitude of "I suck" then the sport would progress in a much better direction. Keep it up!

I think you should talk more about what you’re learning differently because you just saying “I’m learning lots” but never explaining what you’re learning then Are you actually understanding and learning what Naoki is trying to teach you.. just my experience when people say they are learning but don’t actually say a single thing about what they are being taught the 95% of the time they aren’t actually learning anything… and I have taught a lot of people in the biking world and skateboarding world.. being “consistent” isn’t a technique or something you learn, it’s the techniques you learn to become consistent and the facts you don’t look at it as that aspect says a lot for why you’re progression has flattened out majorly and you’re not progressing.. you think people will make you better instead of spending the time trying different techniques!

another thing that will help a lot is if your are gonna compete in the s15 you need a practice car s15 with the same control arms same suspension and similar tires you don't need crazy power like your comp car but at least get 500-600hp so you get used to a little power with the same setup at as your comp car so when it comes time drive in your comp car all that seat time in your practice replica car it will feel about the same I have a problem when I switch cars all of the time I have to get used to it again before I start driving better by doing this it helped me a lot

@@TheEoinB Driving is a technical sport. If you take the time to educate yourself and practice, you understand how it works and can drive at a high level.
Most people are lazy and don't do their home. I driver coach regularly, and the slowest drivers are the lazy ones.

You need for sure more seat time. Every seat time is overall good. But would this type of seat time learn you how to drive in FD? Highly doubt. Naoki in those clips showed nothing what has in common with consistancy, quality tandems etc. FD is not rewarding such type of driving. He is all about running almost straight and banging doors (what he showed with run with Shane) without a reason. His Drift Masters episode showed it even more. Thinking further, it can mess your head EVEN MORE, cause he knows, that he is driving not along the 'needs' of the league...

I have no actual real life experience in drifting but steering wise in comparison to Naoki (although he is probably a lot more comfortable in those cars), you seem to be fighting the wheel a bit instead of letting the car selfsteer. Naoki has a very gentle grip with smooth slow movements only slightly correcting to guide the car along the line and yours is a bit more solid and jerky. (best analogy is like a controller player vs a keyboard player). It increases front tire resistance which makes you slower aswell. Try and really zone in to what the lead is doing and predict his moves dont focus on keeping up too much and remember smooth = fast.
Keep up the grind, you're doing amazing man!
    Much love

I don't understand how Sam thought it would be feasible to enter F1 of drifting without having gone through or won in F4, F3 and F2, to give an example, and trying to reach the top. Maybe he has a lot of talent but he lacks the competitive experience of many years that these guys from FDJ1 have, and in the little time he has doing it, he has to drive a car that has a very limited operating window and from which he cannot yet squeeze out all its capabilities. It is not surprising that it is a titanic task to get past a qualifying event every time

looked like so much fun. I agree you should build a car ASAP, faster u build it the faster u can start getting reps. Also not perfect cars, in not perfect weather conditions, is probably the best thing to get better I would assume. Takes that much more finesse

In principle I can agree with what you are doing but I do think that you are letting things get to your head when you don't need to. Going down this route I would not think is going to be effective when you are already in the top level series in Japan.
The path that will be more rewarding for you should be a two pronged plan with someone like Fausto testing your pro car and getting some feedback because currently your S15 looks twitchy in comparison to others in the field. And secondly I would say to rebuild the old pink S15 using all the same suspension, arms and drivetrain as what you use in the pro car but with a low power engine so you can have a seat time S15 and learn to dial in your settings and hopefully transfer this data over to your pro program.

I bet he was pissing himself over no helmets wearing shorts no suit. No seatbelt seems like or maybe there is type of drifting. I would be a bitch and put a helmet on but it's fucking awesome at the same time watching naoki Drift Off Track inches from another car😂 that was peak greatness right there. This video was definitely one of your top ones.

I had the opportunity to drive with Naoki in the states a while back, and he drove my car with me in the passenger seat. I have never learned so much watching him drive from that point of view, mostly the way he can keeps a cars speed up by not driving at big angle, such an important skill to have! Glad to see you're trying to get better.
