Another point Robert mentioned in his books but isn't here: It saves you from any sense of guilt or feeling like you owe something to them.
What he has said is true! 💯 Some people give generously without expecting anything in return & without showing the power. But deep down in their hearts they want those who were being helped by them, to be grateful & loving towards them. Subconsciously this thought is there ✌🏾

This is a powerful message, and it runs against the grain of our greed-based culture. Our culture teaches us to get the best deal and not let anyone else have anything.
But what Robert is saying here is that our true power lies in our generosity. This is why I always tip generously. People really do appreciate it, and they reciprocate. And if you don't, you're making a negative impression on others.
I offer people services and give money all the time to the point where I forget I helped them and then they thank me years later I legit cannot remember. I never do it expecting anything. Well not consciously at least. I just know what it’s like to live in lack and I want to help every single time I can. I always say if I was rich I’d be poor because I would literally want to help everyone
Money is not the only way to be "paid", sometimes doing something for free out of feeling love or feeling good after helping someone is enough

That “generous” mindset is so key!!! Especially with artisans. The ones doing a good job are worth tipping more just to be on their good side. They associate you with a good pay for honest work. That makes you stand out in the world of nickel and dimers

you're right and that takes wisdom to learn and it took me a while to learn. You automatically think being good at business is securing the lowest price. You pay an artist what they ask for with no complaints they will love you for life. You nickel and dime them, they will forget what your name is.

Or he might have released it on the 12th..) I discovered him when I was 28 via his interviews with Lewis Howes. This man's teachings, podcast clips, and books have certainly influenced my life to grow positively in the past 2 years. Thanks man.

For all the "good" people watching this confused, this is a guide when dealing with selfish people.
bruh I still dont understand. its not about being "good" its about when I value someone I want to share what i have with them I want to pay for thints I want them to know they are worth being taken care of. I expect nothing but their company and this transactional viewpoint makes no sense unless youre viewing the other person like a tart to wallet ratio.
So true, Mr. Greene. Once a client hired me to support her as she was doing her first live workshop. I told her my price and she agreed and paid a 50% deposit. After she spoke with a group of her colleagues, she approached me and said her colleagues said that I should be offering my services for free. What???? It took a moment for her to get it that money is a symbol of appreciation and power. I did not refund her deposit. I did, however, offer her some mindshift sessions in which money was the focus and she was grateful. She’d have hollow success had she not learned the valuable lesson of currency effect of money.

Its a concept. This is the fresh base concept of exchange between people.
This is law #40 be independent by paying someone to do you a favor or make sure it's a win-win situation. That way when someone ask you for a favor you always have the power to say yes or no because you are not in the person's debt. Combine this with law #13 when asking for help appeal to their self-interest.
My wife and I built our own house, both by sub contracting and by working in it ourselves. When a sub contractor would finish eg boring the well, we would request the bill before the machinery left site and we would have the bill paid immediately. The reason for this was two fold, my wife's father is a plumber and was regularly left waiting for payment throughout the years and it also cleared the financial path for us to move onto the next thing without over stretching. I am not saying this was generous, it wasn't but it did shock many of the sub contractors and really helped us build a good relationship with them.

Everything not transactional. You just feel like it and just do at time. Yesterday I gave $5 to a person who needed. Not because I could but I thought he might need more. I got nothing back, he didn’t even look at me or his money, and I’m ok with it.

@WalterWhite-zr5yl I also must say it’s all a mind game. You can just do something without the needing to feel anything too. Also let me out a secret - you can train your mind to do so too. And there are certain meditation practices help you achieve this. So whether to feel something or not in reality, is a choice one intentionally or unintentionally pursue - either it be intentionally or unintentionally. We’re getting into spiritual realm here.. didn’t meant to..

I'm not like that. I love giving gifts to people I like or helping the homeless at the supermarket to pay for their groceries. I expect nothing in return. I've been this way since I was 3 !! What is mind boggling to me is why isn't everyone else like me !! LOL
I find lots of people think that they give out of love but one day you get into a fight and people say: ohh I helped thst person so much, have them so much, hmthe best presents etc and I got nothing in return.
So they did expect something or assumed a reciprocal relationship. Not saying that you at like that but that's what I people say after a fight with their own friends or family. When they gave a present, they were genuinely generous but unconsciously they did see it as an investment.

Also it depends on what your definition of "expectation" is. What he is saying is an exchange of valued materials such as money or services, etc. Not all people are the same. Not everyone has a conscious or is generous. We can't put everyone in the same basket ! We can say probability-wise in business you see less of the genuine generous type of people, however they are out there :) Hope my comment makes sense :p

I was looking for likeminded people in the comments and found you. I agree! Not every person is like that. That’s short sightedness to generalize all people are one way or the other and we all share the same nature. Some people are just happy to make someone else happy. Maybe what they get out of giving is seeing someone else a little happy and that makes them happy. So their benefit is being happy with others together?
Having that said, I’m learning in a very hard way that there are many narcissistic types out there who “give” with completely different intentions.

I 100% disagree! Maybe that’s a millionaires mindset but as a small business owner of a Hub/Minority Business & Non Profit Director who was also a Special Education Teacher… I give from my heart & don’t expect anything in return.
I help people because I have been broken, have seen brokenness in others, have experienced countless veterans suffering and if I can help… why not! If I can work for free, I do! Many pay periods, I pay myself $1 so that staff can have the increase! The live better than I do and that’s ok as long as my job is to do the greater good so NO… everyone does NOT expect something in return if we give you something for free! Sometimes we just want to see others doing good!!! It makes our hearts smile! ❤💕🥰
I think he talks about this as well, or maybe I read this in another book but you're still trying to get something out of it. You're trying to get a satisfaction from helping others, so regardless you still gain and expect something in return.

They lose nothing by receiving something from one who gives out of the kindness of their hearts. Which is contrary to what this man is talking about. The love of money is the root of all evil.
Expecting to get something doesn't have to be negative, think about the fact that you are getting a feeling for helping someone out.

I just started a new job that DOUBLED my salary. However, the work is DOUBLED as hard and I spend DOUBLE the amount of my time at work. They didn't DOUBLE my salary for FREE. It was a trick and a hidden obligation.

Much respect to Robert for his wisdom. However, not everyone who offers a service at no cost expects something in return. I’m a healthcare provider who grew up in poverty and have done charity work for YEARS. I’ve worked for a fraction of what I could be earning in a clinic because I have a conscience and entered this work to alleviate suffering. I ask my “free” patients/clients to do something kind or helpful for someone else when they see an opportunity and to use our work together to improve their lives. That’s it. No obligation, no price to pay. Just taking care of one another.
This applies to believe who don't believe in god or the after life. My father was a man of God who dedicated his life to community service and died in poverty.

I use my money to buy supplies at arts and crafts to create something to gift to my friends because I appreciate them for our friendship. I bake and I gift. I cook and I share--in the absence of having a hidden agenda. Giving your money is your choice-- if you allow yourself to be manipulated and persuaded with their idea--because how they presented sounded good😂

Makes a lot of sense, time is money, literally, we work every hour of our day in exchange of some payout (after state and whatnot takes half of that time, aggregated, in the form of taxes).
Now, we don’t have time to make a car or build a chair, so with that payout we just got we can “command” the time of the hundreds of engineers that have been making cars or the carpenters that make chairs.
We use money as the middleman for time/effort transactions.
With that in mind, when someone comes and gives you something for “free”, for them to come up with that thing to give you, they had to spend their own time and effort somehow… and what happens when someone spends time and effort? They WILL expect at least some of that in return.
And when I refer to time and effort, I mean there’s a translation to “energy” and “watts” in the literal physics sense, since single cell organisms, living things have been trading blows in power (watts) struggles in the hopes of counteracting entropy (keeping disorder in check) and that requires getting resources in any way possible (like cells eating other cells).
Unfortunately, most people are like that. That's why the world is so messed up. Because people think transactional instead of relational.

What if they know you don't have it or if they just don't want to be materialistic? There are cases where you don't have it and businesses give away 10 percent to stay prosperous. We don't accept things for free to be cheap. It's receiving and not taking. People get tired of paying for everything and often it's the opposite. We don't ask for what we need or are unwilling to receive from others and not just give. It's hard to ask for exactly what you need and a struggle to accept much from others even when we need it.
When i give..it's genuine.. i want nothing in return.. gone..forgotten..
But when someone wants to give me something for free.. i always say no..because i know there's got to be a catch, somewhere, somehow..

This is true, however some people like to offer their services as a showing for their value for a payoff in the long run. This isn’t a bad thing. I offer my singing to military events, for instance, for free, with the opportunity to network to their crowd and for future performance opportunities.
The powerful are wealthy and so the money comes with expectations. And then powerful are painted as generous and do not plant resent. This is called order

I may be misunderstanding, but I think I disagree. As Georges Bataille wrote of his “Notion of Expenditure” _(The Accursed Share),_ Chieftans of “Potlatch” societies would donate increasingly extravagant gifts to their rivals. Starting with livestock or grain, and then progressing to increasingly valuable items such as women, slaves, rare jewels, and so on. Even land/territory, in some occasions.
The notion of this Expenditure, apparently, was to prove their dominance over all the other Chieftains and Tribes of the area, by demonstrating how much wealth they could afford to lose or destroy, therefore demonstrating their dominance and superiority in a material way.
According to Bataille, this was the social glue that held the fabric of tribal society together, and served to avoid war and bloodshed. Although, obviously, it wasn’t always successful.

I agree I have never enjoyed haggling but I know when I am being over charged but the freedom to pay that is wonderful anyway even though someone feels they have one upped me. They haven’t I just enjoyed being able to pay that overpriced amount just because
