good evening; you have proposed: " I'm addicted to my phone". can I say :I'm hoocked on my phone. Nowaday , we are all of us addicted to our phones . My daughter waists her time for watching pet
Good question and good idea! Honestly, these days we use 'I am hooked on' when we really really like a TV show, or some kind of entertainment.
For example: "I saw 1 episode of that new Netflix show and I was hooked".
More seriously, we use 'hooked on' for drug addiction too. Such as: "He is hooked on cigarettes and he can't quit."
So I wouldn't use this phrase to talk about phones actually. Hope that makes sense!
A good question and a good answer. Glad you asked this.
God bless you two and all your dear parents too for the extraordinary altruistic job which you have been doing so well here on TH-cam! These are the sincere words of thanks of Cris from Brazil for you. God be praised for that!
Thanks so much for joining us! We really appreciate your comments and your kind words, thanks for your hard work, keep it up!
Putting my phone on mute notifications does work for me. Thanks for such a useful video
Me too! It stops me picking it up every time I get a notification!

Thanks so much for sharing. I also use my phone to study Spanish (mostly Anki flashcards), so it can be a really useful way to learn!
I must congratulate you all. You guys do a great job. My level of English has increased with your classes. This thing about two different native accents. Super show! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫂

Hi I'm English learner from Myanmar..and I really like your lessons..❤
Thanks so much for joining us! We're glad you're here!
Hehe I enjoyed watching this video, by the way, we have that anxiety when we need some information or email, for instance when you are looking forward to receiving confirmation of a job we constantly need to check our phone

Ah yes that's a good example. When you're expecting or waiting for some news, it's easy to keep checking your phone again and again and again!
Thankssss 🎉
You're very welcome!
Hello from Belarus! In this video so much such a useful words for me!))))))
That's great to hear! We're super glad you enjoyed it!
I think my tablet usage is too much as well:-) I do not like that and trying to cut back on the usage of it sometimes. Though, I justify myself that I use this for English learning:-) I check different you tube vedoes , watch movies in English and so on. Luckily, I am not into social media and they are not addictive to me, though sometimes can just scroll Instagram reels, so I got that :-)actually, the problem can be full storage , the internet lagging , bad voice quality and so on , that really get on my nerves😂
Thanks so much for sharing and well done using lots of the phrases from the lesson!
Currently I think I have been using my phone a bit more than I used to since I am learning languages via TH-cam.
Very interesting - thanks for sharing! I also look at my phone a lot because we have this TH-cam channel! :)
i new found ur channel i directly become subscribe
Thanks so much for following us! We're glad you found us!
Fruitful lesson once again thanks for this. Could you please tell me the meaning of Act For because it has so many meanings.
"Act for" is not a phrase I use very often, honestly.
The most common case is when you're in court and a lawyer "acts for" you. You can see an example here: www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/act-for#:~:text=act%20for-,phrasal%20verb,continuing%20to%20act%20for%20him.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other common uses.
🎉really effective
Great to hear! Thanks for joining us!
Hi Kat and Mark ❤ from Tokyo. I think it lucky to find this video scloling my phone.
Now it seems to me a kind of pleasure to see your faces.
That's lovely! Thanks so much for commenting and for studying with us :)
Does 'can' t help being drawn into my phone' sound as natural as 'can't help but be drawn..'
Good question!
I would say that: "I can't help being drawn into my phone" feels a little more conversational.
But: "I couldn't help but be drawn into my phone." is something I would read in a book.
I hope that makes sense!
@@highlevellistening thank you for the answer!
Нi guys, you're making an amazing duet. I'm so excited I've come across your videos. After watching the first one I've subscribed to your channel. Now I see that natives' everyday speech is quite plain and clear without kind of sophisticated vocabulary we learn at school. Thank you so much for teaching real English we can use in the most common situations. Looking forward to your new videos.
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! We're really glad that you found us and enjoy learning English with us too! We hope you like our future videos (and past ones) just as much :)

You’re very welcome!
Hi , Is it pick up used for a person?
I mean pick up your manager I wanna see him.
You can use "pick up" to mean "to collect" someone from another place, usually with a car or a vehicle.
For example, if you are waiting at the airport. I can drive my car to you and [pick you up], then drive us home together.
But if you are just in an office, a cafe, or a store and the manager is in another room, I would say:
- "Can you [go and get] your manager. I want to see him."
- "Could you [go and find] your manager. I want to see him."
Hope that helps!
Very. Good to watch I am fr Myanmar
Thanks for being here with us! We're glad you're here!
Thanks so much for this episode! It’s really useful! 😊😊❤
Thank you so much for joining us in class today!
I like that phrase of going cold turkey
Yesss, it's such a good phrase! Just stop using it 100% I hope it works!
Hey, teachers 😊! I think we're all addicted to our phones. But children are much more than adults usually. I have some sort of immunity to this kind of addition (it's simply my age, when I got my first mobile, it was in 2006). At that time I gave birth to my second son and was so happy to have a new phone, so I could listen to music and so on, while my baby was sleeping. And these days I try to cut off my time on social media, and it's hard because of all these things that you've described in this lesson. So, I think it's our reality and we can take all positive things and try to avoid the other stuff.
Thanks a lot for this great lesson 👏. I love your style of teaching ❤, it's super cool!
Wow - thank you for writing out such a long and thoughtful comment. I'm also a little bit glad that I didn't have smartphones when I was a kid, I think it would be very addictive. It's not easy to find a balance even as an adult with many things to do!
@@highlevellistening 💯 percent agree!

I try not to watch shorts videos on TH-cam with my phone. Because once I start it goes on forever. I end up spending hours without realizing how much time has passed. After that I feel pathetic and blame myself.
We have to stop watching the reels and shorts as well! It’s addictive!
Bom dia,eu sou sugado para dentro do celular, quando escuto vocês dois, loucura né.
Haha but we're different! It's studying!
As frases verbais é um jeito novo que eu estou aprendendo a me comunicar em inglês, é vocês dois são os melhores nas explicações,com vocês vou melhorar o meu vocabulário com certeza, muiito obrigado.
You're very welcome!
I am addicted to on my phone please tell me can we use obsessed. with. Thank you very much for your great help and wish you all the best you both.
Good question - we can definitely used "obsessed with"
For example: "I'm obsessed with my phone, I need to use it less."
Obsessed with has a negative feeling. It's something we want to stop doing, or it's a bad habit.
BUT, you can also use it to talk about a singer, a TV show, or a celebrity that you really really really enjoy. "I'm obsessed with Olivia Rodriguez's new album, I've listened to it at least 20 times."
@@highlevellistening Thank you very much for your great help.
Thanks!
Thanks very much again Ken! We're really grateful for your support.
