Hi Nyssa. Your "screw-ups" in the kitchen equal culinary dreams for most of us ha ha! Never let anyone put you down (or get you down) ... and the same goes for D and the kidlets. Your subscribers love what you share, and these "real-life" videos have been brilliant. I can't wait to follow along on your next shopping trip and experience Christmas with you and the fam. By the way ... your Christmas stars I ordered have made it all the way to the UK. You're definitely going global. ;)

No formal training :). I've worked kitchenhand in a few kitchens, pubs, cafes, canteens, but not studied in anyway, I think I just learn because it interests me! :D
@OurSmallFootprint Yes, you are very interested in food. My husband and I are like that. I am a from scratch cook, so love the way you cook. I am also frugal, one of 10 kids. By the way, there is a fabulous male youtuber called Serious Keto. He tries everything and reviews. He might be able to help with your crackers.
I am very grateful for all the sales it was a wonderful start, I've broken even and a little bit of surplus! so all the equipment I bought etc has now been paid for and that's a success to me! :D

Hi nyssa...i received my order from your shop today. They are beautiful! My granddaughter will love them, and a big thank you for the little extra...love the oval name tag, she will love the stickers. Thank you so much...have a merry christmas x
I'm so glad everything has arrived well in time for Christmas, Aus Post can be so temperamental! I was cutting out name tags for another order and had a spare little spot, and remembered you saying you had trouble finding things with her name :D
Yes! Again thank you so much! Such great quality and well priced...i definitely will recommend and will purchase again myself. We are in for some weather in the forties over the weekend...hello summer, how about you?
Agreed! I not a fan either...our evaporative air coolers work really well with our dry heat, but if we get rain/humidity, which doesn't happen often, then they dont work well at all. Good luck with the heat😮
Loving the hand sweeps 😂 so funny. Your gardens are looking good, I can’t have any as there are too many voracious possums and I’d have to have Fort Knox style garden beds to be successful. We have a lovely very large peacharine tree that we’ve never had any fruit off due to the little furry rascals, at least something is enjoying the fruit 😆 I will try to make one of the pancakes, I think my husband would love it.
I think this ethos of recording with your new camera and microphone is successful. Even when more kids are around, it’s all low background noise. I like the new setup so far.
lambington, has the coolest markings ever..looks like a world map lol, have you thought about getting him a friend?, though cost in feeding could be an issue xx
She is super pretty, great markings for a dorper, and she kept her tail! We've been trying to find a similar aged ewe lamb or neutered male for her, that way we just have the two of them in a pen together and we can decide if we want to breed later etc. But we haven't had any luck locally! Keeping my ear out though. They're not expensive to feed, not really, some lucerne and sheep pellets, we always discuss adding on more 'pets' that cost to feed without return lol, but that's partly the beauty of having the land and ability to do so heh
I normaly do a bulk order of dry goods through Honest to Goodness a couple of times a year, but storage has been a bit of an issue recently and I haven't done one (also a $500 min order) but I will do one in the new year if we're going to keep going I think, its not quite as fine as the costco one and probably actually much the same price, but buying in bulk is easier, if I can organise my storage adequately!
Another great Vlogmas video. Thank you! I like this format too and I really hope that you are finding it faster and easier than the voiceovers (which I also like but fear they take so much time and cause such schedule issues for you). I want the vids to be easy and quick and fun for you!! ❤
It has definitely decreased the planning required, the whole having to type up the notes and then go and talk them really eats into my time, but they are cleaner and neater and more concise, so I dunno! Obviously I won't be doing daily videos of just daily life in one long video every day indefinitely, but I think this is giving me a lot of learning time of how to pivot to this style :D
yes, I always reprimand myself for not getting to them before they've flowered! I'm going to order new spools for the whipper snipper and hopefully we can put that in our regular task rotation and keep on top of it!
That chicken-pesto-pasta looked delicious! I've been meaning to say to you that I use baking powder in my chaffles and it puffs them up enough, so the waffle maker gets completely full. That might help with the sticking that you had the other day. I don't use xanthium gum in them. Try a sweet one with cinnamon and your sweetener of choice, dipped in cinnamon butter!
I keep on meaning to try a sweet one! we are very low on almond flour till I shop again lol, it has limited my experimenting, but Kmart has christmas themed mini waffle makers and I'm thinking sweet for breakfast on Xmas day hehe :D. I'll give the baking powder a go!
Your end of day sounds like mine except I have been watching a Christmas movie on Netflix every night before bed. I like thw unwind of quiet time between the kids bedtime and mine. I hope you are not getting trolls on your video's, I bet none of them live off grid, so they can hardly comment. And you are so busy with multiple businesses, kids, property , gardens amd animals. Wow what do these people do with their time other than complain?! You are doing a fabulous job and are very inspirational.
@OurSmallFootprint I wish it were that easy in our household. I jave one that won't fall asleep some nights till 9, one that hopes in my bed in the middle of the night and then the 3rd who is up at 6am. It's hard to find downtime or quiet time kil
@@RebeccaShepherd I've alwyas been pretty rigid about bedtimes, I really needed that time lol, they go late these days though, the three smaller boys go at 9 and the three bigs go at 10. Everyone must be out of bed and moving by 8. They tell me constantly about how their friends can stay up to whenever they want and sleep in till whenever they want when on holidays... good for them lol.
@ oh so much! When they were young D didn’t come home till after 7 so I would start dinner bath and bed routine with the 4 under 3 at 5 and have all but the boob monster in bed by 6.30/7, the bigger two weren’t much bigger so down by 7.30ish and then just had the limpet for the rest of the night heh
Not much goes on in the frozen north. You’re doing enough in your part of the world. Your garden looks better than mine ever did! PS. Your egg dish is called Pannukakku in my neck of the woods. So Delicious!
I have just had a quick scan back through the video to see which ones, the oil sprayers ? They are from amazon, there's a bunch of different brands and colours, but I just got the amazon suggested ones! amzn.to/3ZA1Awi
The garden is coming along really well, but I wonder where all the pollinating insects are 🤔. I was watching a guy who travelled a long way through the bush and was amazed how clean the windscreen of his 4WD was at the end of it. It's usually caked with dead insects he said. He was quite concerned.
Hi Mabel, I didn't think you needed a reproof when it is the same as the other ones you previously ordered ? Was there any differences whatsoever, I may have misread but I thought you said you wanted exactly the same ? :D. I can resend it through if you'd like though :D
I don’t see those post about the garden. I have commented that you should get the kids t help clean up, especially this month as you gave them December off from school
I don't generally force the kids to take up other jobs when they're on school holidays, its their holiday time, if they do odds and ends above their standard daily/weekly chores, then I'm happy but the garden is my endeavour and if I can't keep on top of it, then that's on me.
They are from Bunnings! food grade, they're great, though the lids get filthy if you live in an outdoor space like me because they are recessed, but it doesn't fall into the buckets at all when you unscrew them.
Hello for ur lamb. Try an extra large harness an tie her outside in the shade by ur dogs during the day theyr flock animals an she needs a companion..... ❤
One of our dogs isn't great with her, unfortunately. We're trying to source a second lamb about her age, another ewe or a neutered male, so she has a companion, but we haven't been able to as yet. But the patio is open to the yard, the fencing is pool fencing, so she chats to the dogs through the fence and sits with them just with the fence between them, as she gets bigger we'll spend more time trying to get Bear to not get as worked up around her :)
D buys them to snack on while driving! :D. I don't mind them, but I do like the idea of a cracker of some sort with a dip, its just one of those things!
Heh, so far she hasn't pulled any down, that blanket the kids hung so badly is hanging very low though lol, it has rained too though, so everything will need rewashing *sigh*
I'm wondering if the bees have been hammered by the heat and what like a couple of rough fire seasons recently?... Just a thought as it hit your neighborhood . Maybe killed a few hives etc
My theory about last year was that the mushroom compost that I was using was too hot, too fresh and was burning everything, so I chopped and dropped everything into the beds by the end of the season, then we put a bit of sugar cane in and topped up with some activgrow bagged soil which is a 16 in 1, our local feed store sells it, its not cheap, but you don't have to add anything to it either, I also have some rock minerals and some fish emulsion that I side dressed the plants with, so far, so good!
Nyssa, commented earlier but I do have a question , with being off grid, is there garbage pickup? Or do you compost and have a burn pile? I had family who lived in the country in South Carolina and though it wasn’t off grid there was no garbage pickup and they composted and had a burn pile but they also went to town to dump things when it was shopping time. Stupid question, just curious. Thanks Cindi
We have compost, and we try very hard for all food scraps to go to the animals or the compost, then we bag everything else up, There is come council owned bins about 15 mins away on the way to town, so D puts the bags on the back of the ute under a net and drops them off to the bins a couple of times a week, we TRY to use all the cardboard in the garden rather than dumping it, but sometimes we get a bit overwhelmed and about 3/4 times a year we fill the trailer up with all the big stuff, like furniture that needs to be dumped, old mattresses, etc etc and D takes it to the tip out past town about 40 mins away hehe, is partly why we always have piles, the tip is a distance away so we want to take a full trailer load when we go heh.
@ thanks I was curious , I think having no garbage pickup would be a big adjustment for me. Nice that the council has bins to use, thanks for answering , just love following your life , and BTW nothing wrong with downtime after a shower at night you work hard all day.
@@OurSmallFootprint I'm in the USA, we live way out of town and don't pay for trash pick up. We have a bi-weekly recycle day for our area and they take trash at $4 a bag. We do compost and burn but we only burn paper and it has to be dry. If you smother the barrel with a lid or burn plastic or wet stuff it does stink badly. We live in an area that isn't a big fire risk so we burn it with no lid and some holes drilled in the sides to take in extra air.
Since when are weeds not part of the gardenscape? I guess I failed too.😊 I figure if I need to care for plants or pick produce, that comes first and there are only so many hours in the day.
I definitely run out of time rather than desire lol, all this rain too, they shot up so high the overwhelm is real, so you walk out there and spend 30 mins pulling weeds and feel like you've gotten nowhere!
I forgot to tell you, we got 4 guinea fowl babies by putting them under 2 broody chickens. 1 mother rejected them, the other one accepted them all! Our geese sat for weeks on eggs, and we got nothing! Also do you eat the guinea eggs? Our sleep with the chickens at night and lay their eggs there as well!
We rarely find the guinea nests! we have eaten them at times, but most of the time we don't know where they lay and therefore how old they are, we didn't get any guinea babies this year that we are aware of though!
I know it might seem weird, but instead of fighting with the grass and weeds, why don't you just let them grow and mow it. It's better for the soil! Those iced coffee drinks look good! I'll have to try that! Vegie garden looks good though! People will put you down to try and make their own insignificant lives seem better! Put it in the care factor zero box otherwise you can get down in the dumps! You do so much more than most, remember that!
We don't own a mower atm, but we do have the whipper snipper, but we've run out of the coils, but yes, because I'm doing the raised beds, it will prob be much easier to just whipper snip it down to the ground level! I have to order some :D
Nyssa if those weeds and grass don’t have seeds on them yet, why don’t you just put cardboard over the top and then throw more weeds on the cardboard etc? Make a lasagne bed. Or do you need that empty bed with the grass in it? I think it must be tricky for you to compost because the animals need the food scraps 😅 Cardboard weighed down with rocks will kill all the weeds. Just walk on the cardboard. Low effort😊
most of those paths already have cardboard on it would you believe :S they've grown up through it! I think we'll whipper snip and then put more cardboard down, and keep trying to suffocate them out lol.
people have no right to comment on how your environment is, they dont live your life. try taking no notice, if you take it in too much you will end up giving in and not doing any videos x
G'day...while your trying to feed your kids by growing food ...you may inadvertently kill them...snake haven in all that mess...there was an eastern brown in my garden the other day...and loafs of pythons...my dog got bitten last month...please clean up the garden area....I always plant a flower in the middle of all my raised beds...even just a small daisy bush will help
Our whole block is a snake haven really, though we very rarely find them that close to the house with our gaggle of geese, the dozen guinea fowl and the 3 large dogs. The garden needs cleaning, I've admitted that and stated that I'm buying more whipper snipper spools etc, it doesn't look like that because I'm just not doing it, its a matter of finding the time to do it amongst everything else too.
“You may inadvertently kill them…” - goodness, what a little ray of sunshine you are. Why, it’s almost as though this family hasn’t been living this way, in the bush alongside wildlife, for long enough to be aware of the dangers surrounding them, and to already take necessary and sensible precautions against them as far as ever they can…

Nyssa May I ask where you purchased the pink and green bottles from please?
I have just had a quick scan back through the video to see which ones, the oil sprayers ? They are from amazon, there's a bunch of different brands and colours, but I just got the amazon suggested ones!

The garden is coming along really well, but I wonder where all the pollinating insects are 🤔. I was watching a guy who travelled a long way through the bush and was amazed how clean the windscreen of his 4WD was at the end of it. It's usually caked with dead insects he said. He was quite concerned.
There definitely seems to be a lack of everything but spiders, christmas beetles and flies atm !
Yes, we had a conversation a couple of weeks ago about the absence of insects on the windscreen after driving.
Hi 😊 I was wondering if I am going to get a proff on the tree that I ordered?
Hi Mabel, I didn't think you needed a reproof when it is the same as the other ones you previously ordered ? Was there any differences whatsoever, I may have misread but I thought you said you wanted exactly the same ? :D. I can resend it through if you'd like though :D
I do want the exact same. Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting it..
For those who don't Homestead, let alone live off grid, they have no clue. Take it with a grain of salt, and whisk it away. 😊
Just a question...where did you get the white drums/buckets with the blue screw top lids?
They are from Bunnings! food grade, they're great, though the lids get filthy if you live in an outdoor space like me because they are recessed, but it doesn't fall into the buckets at all when you unscrew them.
@OurSmallFootprint thanks Nyssa!
Where do you get the coconut cream from please
Hello Pure :)
@OurSmallFootprint thank you
Hello for ur lamb.
Did you know you can get pork crackle chips from Woolies in the biscuit isle. Almost no carbs, $2 a bag. A bit dry but good no carb snack.
D buys them to snack on while driving! :D. I don't mind them, but I do like the idea of a cracker of some sort with a dip, its just one of those things!
Those cloths on the line are looking a bit tasty for laminton. 😊
Heh, so far she hasn't pulled any down, that blanket the kids hung so badly is hanging very low though lol, it has rained too though, so everything will need rewashing *sigh*
@@OurSmallFootprintmy dad used to say that rainwater is the best fabric softener in the world 🤷🏼♀️
@ it depends on if they get a little dry and then wet again kinda thing cause then they get smelly :s
End of day...ME TIME!!! No apologies.
I'm wondering if the bees have been hammered by the heat and what like a couple of rough fire seasons recently?...
Just a thought as it hit your neighborhood . Maybe killed a few hives etc
definitely possible, I'm not sure they were in abundance last year!
Hi Nyssa ,l am wondering what did you do yo improve your soil, l remember it didn't work out ladt year like you hoped too
My theory about last year was that the mushroom compost that I was using was too hot, too fresh and was burning everything, so I chopped and dropped everything into the beds by the end of the season, then we put a bit of sugar cane in and topped up with some activgrow bagged soil which is a 16 in 1, our local feed store sells it, its not cheap, but you don't have to add anything to it either, I also have some rock minerals and some fish emulsion that I side dressed the plants with, so far, so good!
Awesome, thanks Nyssa@@OurSmallFootprint
@@Cynkarl1 We did try burn barrles for a bit there, but the smell hangs around and it was super unpleasant, very grateful for the council bin access!
@ yeah, we had to do it smothered, far too much fire risk and the smell just hung around for AGES!
You know, if you crack two eggs against each other, only one cracks? Stops the edge of the bowl/bench getting eggy too
I've never tried it! I'll give it a go :D

❤❤❤❤❤
Nyssa if you can remind me where you got your bulk meat online from please? I want to get bulk chicken tenders.
meatonline.com.au :)
Take no notice of the moaners I like a lot of your viewers enjoy any of your videos❤
