Olympus Infinity Stylus: Is the Hype Justified? (Lomography 800 Rainy Day POV)

  • In this video I take out the Olympus Infinity Stylus, a 35mm point and shoot camera, also known as the Olympius MJU I, out for some POV rainy day action! I wanted to find out if this little camera deserves all the hype it gets from the film community! I hit the nature trails of Augusta, Georgia and got absolutely drenched while doing it. I used Lomography 800 color negative film which is absolutely beautiful in a rainy day setting (or any other setting tbh haha). I hope you enjoy the video! :)

    I didn't know the stylus was weather resistant to that extent. Nice to know.

    Nice colours - I might have to try that film! I own the exact same camera and I’m pretty sure it’s not one of the weather sealed versions. Those are clearly marked as such, and are some of the zoom versions and possibly the 2.8 prime version. In any case, glad yours is ok after the rain and thanks for the video.

    OMG I’ve been in the market for a point and shoot and heavily considering this model. I’m a huge lomo 800 fan and this video sealed the deal for me! Just pulled the trigger on one - thanks for the great content!

    Do you think the camera is worth the hype? Let me know!
    Also I DO NOT recommend taking this camera in the rain. Mine survived, but I wouldn’t trust it.

    Didn’t think I’d ever want to try lomo before seeing those photos but now I totally want to. Had no idea that thing was weather proof like it’s big brother either. I learned a lot this video thank you

      It’s quickly my favorite film of all time! I’ve read all over the place that it’s weather sealed and it worked well for me, but I’m still a little hesitant to recommend other people try that, so try at your own risk!! I’m glad you enjoyed the video Mateo! :-)

    Awesome content!!! Hopefully the camera continues to work cause I don't remember the mju1/stylus being weatherproof.

      @KelseySmithPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much Roman! It’s currently still working, but I think I might have been a little misled about it being fully weatherproof! It held up, but I don’t know if I’ll be taking it out in a downpour like that again!

      I believe I used it in almost all of them in order to freeze the rain! It was a few months ago so I don't 100% remember, but I believe most of them were yes! Thanks for watching! :-)

    Hey I just picked this up I'm a beginner at flim what is the best film start with with this camera ?

    • @KelseySmithPhotography
      @KelseySmithPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey cheston!! Considering this camera is fully auto and has a flash you really can’t go wrong with any film. I would recommend trying out some consumer grade film first and see what color palette you like the most before moving onto professional grade film as it’s more expensive! Try out Kodak Gold and Kodak Ultramax and then try out Fujifilm C200! You can also try out Lomography 800 which is my personal favorite.

    After ten minutes of video, I'm not sure if he answered the title question. I'll try, with a big NO. It's a cheaply made camera by design. The lens is a three element item which as a technical matter simply cannot put a sharp, aberration and distortion free image on film. Three element lenses were probably last used by Kodak on their cheapest Instamatic cameras in the 1970s, and those were not a wide angle lens which is inherently harder to make well. However, they do meet the needs of their target market. That was folks who wanted a camera in the drawer to take family photos around the Thanksgiving table and snaps of the grandkids at the beach. The end product was a double set of 3x5" prints from the drugstore.Today, it has been hyped into a capable photographic instrument, which is a joke. It is the 1990s equivalent of the old, cheaper Instamatic. Is that a problem for most of its owners? Probably not. Cameras like the Mju/Infinity Stylus are owned today largely by folks who rarely if ever actually put a roll of film through the camera. Rather, they purchase it as a fashion accessory - a bit of alternative jewelry. If 200 videos went on YT next month showing a 1960s Kodak Instamatic 104 and implying that anyone who is cool should have one, the Mjus would pile up in a dumpster over night. (Instamatic 104, 126 format; film not available; takes flashcubes; sold new for $16 list).
