With App-Connect you can access your phone’s apps quickly and easily. App-Connect displays supported apps directly onto your Volkswagen’s infotainment system. Effortlessly access music, news, maps, podcasts and audiobooks. Volkswagen currently offers three interfaces for connecting with smartphones: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto by Google and MirrorLink. The wireless connection option for the Discover Media, Discover Pro and Ready 2 Discover navigation systems makes the use of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto by Google particularly simple in We Connect-ready vehicles.
The latest-generation modular infotainment toolkit lays the foundations for networking current Volkswagen models (from the Polo upwards) to any popular Apple or Android smart phone via App-Connect. Apart from MirrorLink (Android), App-Connect also integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (Google) in infotainment systems.
With Google Assistant for Android Auto, you can keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. With the help of voice commands you can easily find the right route, play your favorite music, ask about the weather and much more. Just say "Ok Google" and get started.
You can even ask the Google Assistant to look for a refueling point on the go. Everything appears on the display of your car. This is how you can see what's near you. Just say where to go and be on your way.
The Google Assistant can read your messages to you. You then have the option of answering them by voice input. All you need is your voice - from calls to chat apps. So you are less distracted while driving.Our Discover Pro system offers a range of media entertainment and functionality at your fingertips on its 8.0“ touchscreen colour display. Complete with navigation system and DAB/FM radio, you’ll have everything you need for your journey.
The dynamic 3D navigation with voice control offers you three routes - fast, short and eco-friendly - based on traffic messages to help avoid congestion. European maps are included, displaying a range of useful information, such as points of interest and speed limits.
You even have a built in internal Gracenote database, jukebox and Podcast playback. Bluetooth telephony and Smartphone logic make hands-free phone calls simple. And the four 20 watt front and rear speakers produce excellent sound quality.
Our 2nd Generation Discover Navigation Pro1 is optional on the new Golf. With innovative gesture control, it's easy to move around in the main menu or - with a single hand movement - to switch radio stations or songs, for example.
It has a larger, 23.4 cm (9.2 inch), TFT touchscreen for a first-rate 3D map display, and - with one USB interfact and Bluetooth - has fantastic connection options. It also features DAB / FM radio reception and eight loudspeakers.
Additional highlights include that the voice-activated controls respond to place names and street names and calculate a route according to your instructions. The vehicle's Bluetooth technology makes using the phone easier. Last but not least, the internal Flash memory has more than enough space for five years of free updates for your navigation software.

Great video Dan I have the same system in my new Golf, although I’ve got a iPhone and I’ve not even used Apple CarPlay yet because of Lockdown I’ve only been out in the car twice!

Dan, when doing the google assistant demonstration you can activate it from the button on the steering wheel. If you short press it it will activate the car's voice activation, but if you long press it, it will activate google assistant instead... You just need to make sure you have the android auto showing on the screen... My previous generation SEAT Leon allows ir to be done this way when using the Full Link, so i assume the VW group didn't remove it in these new systems... If they did, then it wasn't a smart move... :D

Adrian it will draw the battery but not very fast because the phone screen will be close ...maybe 15% faster then normal 🙂👍

Hi. Do you know if wireless app connect is only available on this model of infotainment system for caddy? I just received brand new caddy cargo edition and it was supposed to have wireless app connect, but it only has the 8.5" infotainment system and does not even have wired app connect available on the screen. I have contacted the dealer and they say there was a batch of caddy's sent out without app connect on them and they are supposedly looking into it. But I got the feeling today that vw aren't keen to change the radio that I paid for. I waited since march 2022 (7 months) for delivery and now it doesn't even have all the spec it should have.
Iam not sure to tell you because they always change those multimedia systema and it is confusing

It is the new one if I remember well. I have video with both of them you can see difference...not big difference 👍
When navigating with google maps/waze do you get turn directions on the DRIVERS display ?

@@SDADanCars I just got the latest update in the UK, and you do get the turn directions on the driver's display with Maps. Have not tried Waze yet
its works on the head up
you have night mode because of the time in the system, you just need to set the correct time or insert the automatic time setting

I think the car hotspot ...but the Internet connection it is from the phone 👍

Hi, I have a VW Golf mk8 2022. Today whilst using Google maps the directions also appeared on the instrument cluster above the driving data and was wondering how I get that to appear everytime as it's quite cool to have it on there too and the infotainment screen. You don't get the full map just the next step of your journey. Thanks.

Hello! Which android version were you using? I have a golf 8 MY2021 (should be same MIB3 unit), but the wireless AA does not work. The car does not offer android auto connection, car's wireless AA shows that no devices are known, and the phone only connects via the cable. I'm trying to piece together what could be wrong before I try to mess with the dealer. I've tried multiple different phones of different manufacturers, but they were all running android 11.
Try with different phones. I use android 11 . It had made some problem as well. Try other phones and see if work. Update phone to latest software. RESET CAR FROM FACTORY SOFTWARE. 👍👍
same as you AA will only work on wired connection. Mines a 2020 golf style.

@@MrZhilvinas no doesn't have it in the menu. According to the android 11 website it should be supported. As the car has 5ghz WiFi. I'll have to check with VW direct. Thanks for replying.
