- If you’re lucky enough to have a car with a compatible entertainment system, using Waze on Android Auto is even more convenient than using Waze on your phone.
Not only do you keep a lot of the same functionality as using it on the phone app, but the convenience of the large, always-on screen makes it easier and safer to operate than a phone.
In this video I walk through how to use all the available features in Waze when connected with Android Auto in your car.

Very nicely done & a professional video for sure! How about a follow-up one on how to use voice commands in Waze while driving, like reporting police, accidents and cars on road or shoulder?
Thank you! And thanks for the idea. I'll have to give this some consideration when I have some more time.
Nice overview since I just started to use Waze on Android Auto. 1 feature I can't find on Auto and I'm a long time Waze user, the turn by turn direction list that you get when you tap on the next turn on the app. I'm guessing this isn't available on Auto or have I just missed how to access it?
Thank you! When I started the video I was expecting to find more features but was surprised to learn that things like turn-by-turn is not included unfortunately.
Great brief tutorial. Thanks. Installing and sharing your video with my wife tomorrow. Double thanks!!
Glad it helped
When your passenger is entering an instance - at 5:40 - (eg police, onbject in road, etc) whilst you are driving, does it alert others to the location you were at when the speech bubble was pressed or when someone has finished going through the menu (eg selecting police, hidden, etc).
The reason I ask is that if you are doing it at highway speeds (which is why I said the passenger is entering it), there will be a big difference in location in the 10-15 seconds it may take to enter it all.
No point Waze telling users there's an object on the road if it's based on when the issue was finished being entered if the user is a few hundred meters past where the hazard is (when speech bubble pressed)
It should (but without comprehensive testing) be the point in which you press the button to report it. The coordinates are saved giving you time to add details
Great video. I see there is no share route option on waze/android auto (just on the phone when not using android auto?🥺😢
Thank you! Sadly, no. There's no share journey option on the current version for Android Auto :(
This video should have mentioned missing function also:
1. it is not possible to use keyboard when the vehicle is moving,
2. you can't select a destination on map itself
3. it is not possible to list warnings ahead,
4. Search results are not displayed on the map, but only listed.
I would like to add that it does not allow you to overview the current route.
Hey mate great vid, I'm new to using waze, I'm currently having issues with it only using offline maps when connected to android auto, I LIVE IN newcastle nsw just wondering if you have had this issue, im wondering if its a mobile service issue though shouldn't be as i live in a large city or an app issue
Thank you! But sadly no, I haven't come across that issue myself. Waze doesn't have an offline mode but it sounds like maybe a feature rollout has gone wrong as other people are reporting similar problems. I'm assuming a fix will be deployed by Waze soon.

@@HowToDoItTech Thanks for the fast reply, ill keep an eye out and see what other people are saying in the meantime ill try reinstalling and check for any updates Cheers.
@@HowToDoItTech Thought i would update you, i finally figured out what was happening.
Basically my phone was connected to my dashcam via wifi for some reason this forced waze to use offline ,maps due to not having internet as it was try to use my dashcam wifi connection, turning off wifi fixed the offline map issue.
Simple fix but frustrating lol
Thanks for sharing your findings. That will actually be helpful for anyone else experiencing similar issues. Also that's really interesting your dashcam has it's own shareable network connection. That's a category I'm quite keen to explore in the future.
@HowToDoItTech The dashcam connection is purely to be able to download the camera files to my phone if anything happens, but because it's a WiFi network it basically tricks your phone into thinking it's a home network and it prioritises that connection over using mobile data but doesn't actually have access to internet connection hence Waze using offline maps.
what I don't see is a way to see all the upcoming turns in a list, like the phone app displays. Can this be done on Waze for Android auto? It's important to be able to see all the upcoming turns.
Just updating my answer soon... I think I've found a way but my car is unavailable. I'll update once I get it back as I think I found a way.
Great video! Can I use voice commands like "OK Google..." to set travel destinations?
Thank you! Yes, you can 😁
@@HowToDoItTech how, please...
@@fredtippett670 Once you have installed the Waze app on your car's entertainment system, you just need to follow the instructions to turn it on. Depending on your car controls (e.g. a button on the steering wheel to toggle on the voice mic) you'll be able to converse with Waze.

can you specify a specific street to take in waze to the desired destination
Yes, you can type in any address to navigate there directly.
can you get it to show your current speed on the screen while driving ?
Yes you can. It'll appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
Can I type in addresses using my phone instead of using car screen. I don't have a touch screen.
Yes! You just need to exit out of an existing navigation to enter new addresses. However you can add additional stops on an existing trip by searching for a location using the spyglass
How to type in an address when the vehicle is moving. It has a safety feature that prevents thats
Unfortunately you will have to cancel the current route and start again.
I faced an issue when using Waze on Android auto with my car sportage 2020 each 10 seconds appear not found GPS i try to solve this issue put in can't
Can you help me ?
Hi there. So if your phone is not experiencing the same issue with other map apps like Google Maps, it will be a bug in the app. I would test Google Maps first.
@@HowToDoItTech i not face issue with ather app. also I solve issue from permission app. Thanks
Looks like it doesn't give you turn by turn directions if you want to see your full route in text.
No, that's currently a missing feature which Google Maps has.
@@HowToDoItTech Crap. They need to fix that asap!
How to you add Waze to Android Auto?
If you have Waze installed on your phone you're using to connect to Android Auto, the app will appear in your list of apps on your car device. Do you see it?
