Hi, Carla and Samson! New viewer/subscriber. Binge watched several episodes over the weekend and it was just the cathartic inspiration I needed to declutter, clean, and purge my home of five large bags of everything from old cosmetics to expired pantry items. I feel lighter and more clearheaded. So much so that my workweek has been more productive at the office. I am a 59 yr old, divorced professional with a 9 month old puppy Lily. As a single person I convinced myself that certain things about my home didn’t matter as I am the only person seeing those spaces. Thank you for the encouragement of progress not perfection. It was the boost I needed to make changes because doing it for myself is enough of a reason❤️

I love your decluttering and cleaning videos! You show the realistic side of how we all live. Its not all perfect and new, most of us live in old spaces with used appliances and furniture. It makes me feel good to see the difference you make in a space. I also love your videos that you have done with your sister. I have a family member that is a boarder line hoarder and you show how you help her and let her make the decisions.

I only use flat sheets in the summer (no blankets.) I really liked the floral sheet she donated. Would be great to make an outfit from it.
I really appreciate you showing that even though you do this for a living that your place can get messy as well. it’s nice to see that we are all human and that nobody has a perfect spotless place every single day.

Since your space is the bedroom and office, the calendar on the wall would interfere with your vibe unless you place it very low on the wall behind your desk. Great music selection and lovable Samson.

Two screens can be super useful for working between two items. I have three screens at my work desk and some days that's not enough. You could also put the big screen on an arm that clamps to the side of the desk and swing it back against the wall when not in use. Great work!!

Want to add that I really enjoy and appreciate the music you play for us! Only 1 other TH-camr plays music I like. Most I can’t stand. I’ve even quit watching some channels that I otherwise liked a lot. But I just couldn’t tolerate their music

I also stopped using flat sheets. They always just end up at the foot of the bed or on the floor. I did keep like two, I think, though because they have come in handy for other random things. Like when I need something to cover the floor or twice when I moved and needed something to cover the windows at night until I could get curtains.
There is something so comforting to me about putting on one of your cleaning and decluttering videos while I’m cleaning and decluttering. My husband pokes fun at me and I always laugh back that you and I are cleaning buddies. Thanks for being a motivation to me to get off my butt and clean!

yes! i also decided that I don't have to follow the traditional approach to bedding and got rid of the flat sheets. So liberating!
Fitted sheets only!!!!!! I always donate the flat sheets as soon as I get them.

When you mentioned in between clothes, I think you were probably referring to clothing that you just wore once and you want to wear again before washing. I hang clothes like that back in my closet, but I turned the hanger, the other way on the rod. And then for clothes that I don’t hang up, I fold them and set them on my dresser. A lot of people find success in having hooks on the back of the door to hang clothing that’s not quite ready to wash.
Carla, l mentioned that I am househunting. Much to my surprise, 2 homes so far, had an antique stove like yours! I wasn't freaked out because I could see it for what it was. I was napping, and when that lovely jazz started, I woke up to your delightful content. Thanks.

Have you considered hooks on a wall (maybe behind your door in the bedroom?) for in-between clothes? Got the idea from Cas from Clutterbug and I LOVE mine. So simple, but I wear my pajamas several nights, workout clothes a couple days, etc, and I love having a home for them that’s off the floor…

Carla, I dont know if you realize….you made ur bed with fresh sheets and made it all clean. Then you picked up everything off the dirty floor complete with dog hair and put it on ur bed, and now it is all dirty. Maybe you should reverse the order you are using. Floor things sorted and put away first then the bed last ❤

The sound of your videos is great. I'm not a fan of videos with microphones held, I can't explain why, I just don't like it.
Your "one item comes, so another one has to go" is a concept easy to follow.
I have to admit a purchase of impulse buying... didn't turn out well. It was a kind of local flea market, online.
So, I got the address of the person selling it, got there and while looking at the decoration items I thought "hm...I don't like them as much as I thought I would". And yet I purchased them. Why ? There was no obligation from my side. I could and should have said I changed my mind. Did I do that ? No.
At home the first thing I did was try to get rid of them. A couple of days later an older lady showed up and gratefully took them.
What's the lesson learned ? More thinking, sugarcoating when browsing online. 😂😢

Nice tidy and clean and declutter! I don’t think it’s necessary to be an extreme minimalist. I think we need to enjoy our spaces and our things, over adhering to strict rules (eg 125 items). Your place is so lovely. Samson is such a cutie and reminds me of our Great Dane (he had one eye with a black rim and one that was missing the pigment, like yours). ❤️

I’m def not a minimalist. And my place gets very messy. Dog hair and dust mites. Craft stuff, things to resell or donate. Regular dirt from just daily living. My back is kaput, so it takes me a long time to get a clean house.
I had a golden/husky. The very tops of his eyes were icy blue.
I totally agree that not everyone should strive for extreme minimalism. It took me four years to completely declutter my house. I kept only things I used or that bring me joy. My goal was to simplify my life. Going into minimalism would have totally stressed me out. To each their own.

I was anti flat sheet when I was younger, but I came back around for quilts. Plus if you find the right sheets it can be so soft! I like lyocell eucalyptus sheets. They get softer each wash with no nasty chemicals!
Yes! I have the best quilt from schoolhouse. I absolutely adore it!And I love sheets. Especially good linen sheets. I just don’t like getting tangled up in the flat sheet but some other people in the comments also said they changed their mind as they got older. Will have to check out those eucalyptus sheets!

I have gotten rid of all my flat sheets too. Hate them. I used to have one to put on my couch if I or anyone needed to sleep there, but now I just use my extra fitted sheet for that.

Designate a place for clothes that are in between, the clothes that are not dirty enough to wash and that can be worn a few times more.. That is why many have a little chair that is often the place to put the clothes in between, for others, it is the exercise bike or threadmill.
On rainy days turn on lots of lights and your favorite music and start jammn

I also agree about the flat sheets. I haven’t used them for years 🙂. I have the same kind of double kitchen sink you do, and keep a smaller dish rack in it instead of the rolling thing you use. I can stack a lot more drying dishes in it and wash as I go (sort of). Yours are the only videos I watch regularly and it brightens my day when a new one comes out. You, your apartment, and Sampson are so easy to relate to. Thanks so much 🤩!

It's so good to hear you say you don't like flat sheets, I discovered a long time ago I hate them too, and all I need is my duvet covers from Anthropologie which are the most beautiful things I've ever seen and I spent a lot on them but I only have two and it's so easy to make the bed every morning. The pattern is so boho and beautiful of one of them I think it's called the Matteo if you care to check it out, and what it serves as is basically one big art piece focal point for me instead of art on the wall. I know it's weird to say there's no art on my wall, but I'm an artist, LOL so most of the art on the wall around the rest of my house is mine😊
I used to have a gorgeous duvet cover from Anthropologie . It was like a tree and mountains and it was blue and gray. It was gorgeous but it got ruined in the wash. I’ll check yours out. It sounds lovely😍

I hate rainy days days 😷 Ive been sick. Just now starting to feel better after 12 days. Ive taken out trash, laundry in, dishwasher going. I ordered groceries and had them delivered. Still need to put clothes away and make my bed. Well straighten the covers anyway. It is 820 pm. I love the lady and crow pic. Its beautiful

Sampson and those eyes…too cute. I got out 6 closet items. One jacket, one sweater poncho, 2 tops & 2 shoes. I am allowing myself to bring in 3 new shoes and one sweater/cardigan/poncho type item. I had the hubs add a hook in the closet for my work tote and I got one new basket to hold my other handbags to store in the closet. I am done replacing handbags for now and I only have one more shoe to purchase (loafer) and I’m done adding to my wardrobe until Spring. I will make a small list of what I will need and it’s usually T-shirts & a refresh on under garments and one pair of cropped jeans, possibly one more handbag. So that budget will be moderate. When I take things out I create a plan of what I will replace. I have purchased some affordable options in shoes to see what I actually wear, then I replace them with a better brand. For instance. I got some Target sandals in neutral colors and found I do wear the colors. I replaced them with Birkenstocks in those colors. The same with my loafer and a pair of flats and one short heel. When I’m done I will end up with 10 pair of shoes. 3-sandals, 3-sneakers, 1-loafer, 1-flat, 1-heel, 1-boot. It has taken me a few years to figure out a system that will work for me and finding quality items within my budget and I have really enjoyed the process. ❤👜👟🧣👖👚🧥

@@TheCarlaProject I wasn’t sure what to expect but I really feel good about it. I also started taking photos of outfit combinations and saving them on my phone. Not that I’m stylish or anything. Mostly dress like a geranimals graduate. Kinda matching coordinating kinda vibe, but it’s working. Here are the brands I like for shoes. Sketchers for sneakers, Birkenstock for sandals, Thursday Boots for boots, Ralph Lauren for loafer, Naturalizer for small heel & flat. My handbags are Tory Burch, Dooney & Micheal Kors and I only purchase on sale or outlets.
When I was a I’d I hated the flat sheet, never used one until I got married. I used to think I was so weird. 😀. Now I see a lot of people online don’t use to sheets! You do what’s comfortable for you!

I enjoyed your video a lot. What seems to be your repetitive problem is that things pile up because you don‘t put them back. What helped me was the note „everything that can be put away in less that 1-2 minutes should be done right away“. This Note always comes to my mind when i want to put things down where they don‘t belong. Maybe it helps you too 😊
I love that extreme minimalist life too but I too have a hard time pairing down further. There are things I know I don't use though, I could do better. I hate flat sheets too!
I lean towards putting things in little drawer organizers, but I like the idea of sorting junk drawer things using a jewelry organizer. And, yeah, I gave up flat sheets a long time ago. What doesn't serve you has gotsta go! Including flat sheets lol

You have all that room on the wall next to the computer that you could have some type of organizing system. Shelves, bulletin board with holes and containers ,lots of options for the small things that collect on your desk.
