Funny story , I moved and had a storage unit for (10x10) 5 years. I paid 250 per month. I didn’t need all that stuff. That was a total of $15k down the drain. I had become a minimalist. It was free in not having so much stuff.
Same thing with my dad he has a storage he his paying 250$ a month for and it’s been about the same amount of time 😬. My goodness the amount we pay to keep things we don’t need or want. He could have bought whatever he is storing a couple of times over already.
this was my dad. One day that I did the math and it was about $10,000 spent on storage thus far - so I asked him genuinely curious if there was anything worth that much in the unit. He was shocked, because although some of the car parts were worth money, the total value was way less than $10k. He didn't say much, but proceeded to sell off stuff and had it emptied out in a 3-4 months (lightening speed for him!) it was a really unemotional way to assess keeping things that are 'worth' something. Don't know it would work on sentimental stuff, but it helped a lot.
@@TrishRLU same here. Car parts, tools, furniture and random stuff smh.
Don’t think of it as money down the drain. At the time it was worth something to you. Think of it as a lesson learned!! 😎
@@daCubanaqt lesson learned was don’t waste money on a storage shed full of objects 😂😂😅
That Sampson is a keeper! ❤️ He is equal parts toddler and old man. 😂❤
He's totally adorable! 🐾❤🐾😘
Ha just like my partner... guess I'll keep him.
Hahah best description of him and so accurate lol

Please please show us Becky’s new place once she has moved in.
I know,it will be fabulous!
Becky, you are so nice, sweet, wonderful!
It's not a Becky video without random bursts of unhinged giggling. What a fun time. 🙌
I'm excited to see how they organize her new home!
I'm so freaking proud of Becky. She was RUTHLESS. And she'll see how much more ruthless she can be when she moves in. She'll get a sense of the space, and how she wants it to feel, and she'll naturally be able to shed some more. This is hard, and i could see she was genuinely sad sometimes, and that's OK. It's hard when you're sentimental and love those memories. But she truly honestly won't miss it when it's gone, and she's realized how much she can let go of and still be thriving. Go Becky!!
Carla, I digitized all my photos, took pics of momentos, digitized all my music, and made 2 quilts from old clothes I loved but wasn't the vibe anymore. I now have the photos and momentos on shuffle and 2 mich loved quilts for winter. I see a lot of the old me in Becky but would love for her to not feel so burdened. Thank you for bringing us back again!🎉
How did you digitize your old photos?
What perfect ideas!!! Bravo!! I hope Becky sees this, perhaps it will help her to live lighter by incorporating her precious memories into present day w/out the burden!
Please tell me what you used to digitize your photos? I would like to get details on the scanner you used and the software you stored it on. And any other details to assist with the digitizing process
My husband and I retired and sold our home to RV. That meant getting rid of EVERYTHING except a few clothes and kitchen items. You will not miss the stuff!!! Trust me , in six months you won’t even remember what you had!
So true. We donated about 3/4 of our entire home belongings and don’t miss ANY of it
True..I boxed up stuff to give to family for a yard sale and I cannot even tell you what's in those boxes now...
My parents did the same thing after I graduated from High School. They were full time RVers for about 10 years. They stopped because my mom wanted to have a home base for all her grandkids.
Except it's important when giving advice to understand that just because something works for one person doesn't mean it's the right thing for someone else. Just because you didn't miss the stuff doesn't necessarily mean someone else wouldn't. Or it may be the right thing for someone if they remove things gradually and get used to the change slowly, rather than doing it quickly and waking up in a cold sweat a week later thinking "What have I done?"
Love your videos Carla. I think if you are motivated to declutter then you won't miss anything. But if you feel compelled to declutter, that's when you'll miss things. You have to be mentally prepared for it to be able to handle it. I have been declutter for 19 years without missing a thing and many people with me say the same thing. We can control our brains ourselves, which my mother did when Dad threw out an old TV stand 20 years ago, one with a compartment for VHS tapes, and Mom found a use for that TV stand and complained that Dad had thrown it away. If you don't want to mentally declutter, the brain will come up with excuses for it and find uses for the things. My father bought a new very nice TV bench with storage that is still relevant today. Those of us who really want to declutter our stuff won't regret it. If you don't want to declutter things you will miss them later.
The more decluttering videos I watch the more I feel like getting rid of my own stuff. They remind me I don't need all of it. Things we keep closed in a box or bag for YEARS and we never reach for, to the point we forget they even exist. A big NO for it! hahaha
You can do it! It's like any muscle in the body, it's painful and sore at first but gets easier the more you declutter.
I think there's something going on deep on our psyches by watching these videos. At first decluttering your own stuff can seem so difficult, but somehow, watching someone else do it strengthens one's own resolve. If only watching someone work out at the gym worked so well 😂
I agree with you. The more I watch decluttering videos , the more I declutter & stop shopping unnecessary stuff.
All the pothos plants, cut themback for easy transport and it rejuvenated them. They will grow back in no time.
“And we’re still friends!”😂💜💜
I have to go through my craft room. It’s a total mess. I have found that I have bags of bags! Bags of bags! 😢Empty bags! I don’t need bags and bags and bags! Plus I keep buying craft supplies but I don’t make the items. So I have boxes with supplies lying all over. Woe is me! This is a good lesson today!
Who else loved the sounds of the trash going into the trash bag??!!😊
If you ask Carla what she thinks 99 percent of the time she says “get rid of it “ 😂
Love it 🙌🏻
We used to focus on keeping and storing in clever ways. Now we focus on get rid of it. Now feels much better. Freedom!! ❤🎉
I have a beautiful gift box for the cards I’ve kept over the years( I’m 50, so I have lots). When I get more cards I want to keep, I just put them in the box and if they don’t fit, then I need to get rid of some for them to fit. Funny thing is though, I recently got rid of about 50 cards from that box that no longer had sentimental meaning…life happens and our feelings change over time.
Dana K White’s container concept helped me so much with my sentimental stuff. She says you can keep anything but you can’t keep everything if you want to have space to breathe.
Well done Becky and Carla🩵🩵
It took me four years (no lie) to donate my belongings and shred my papers. It was a lot of work, felt overwhelmed and stressed out. I had alot of clothes that I was not wearing. But it was worth it, now I have less clothes and less papers.
Your doing a great job Becky!! I can't wait to see you organize and decorate your new home! 🙂
She is so pretty and seems to shine with great energy. I'm so excited for her new home. ❤
I Konmari'd my apartment during the pandemic and my first phase of elimination was only those that had a special message and/or meaning. For instance, notes written by my nieces & nephews when they first started writing,.or the postcard my uncle sent me from his hospital room when I was 3 (he died a couple years later). I have gone through at least four additional declutterings since then. I went from a chest to a very small box. And now I take one out at random times and read the message to help surround me with the love/gratitude/joy from the sender.
I went through all my cards/letters too. It took quite awhile. I had them in a few different places around the house, so I gathered them all together. I got rid of any cards that just had a name signed and no message unless it was from a close family member. I have a lot of actual letters that I kept most of. Most of them from my dad, mom and friends. I was able to get it whittled down two 3 photo boxes about the size of shoe boxes. I am most of the way through our house now and going over several areas numerous times. It does feel good to get it all organized.
I save cards & mementos too, & I attach a memory to everything & it's so hard to let go. It's paralyzing & overwhelming, so it's refreshing to see someone else decluttering the same kinds of things. Thanks you two for another very motivating declutter video!
I started scanning in cards and letters into my Turbo Scan app!
Me too! Momentos, photos, special knick knacks are so hard to part with! 😢
We have postcards from the 1930s from my Great Aunt and Uncle..they are beautiful ❤️
Absolutely cannot wait to see how the new place looks all organized. She was a beast with this whole move and declutter. Amazing job!!
I was thankful when you said round one declutter - I kept saying to myself that it wasn’t all going to fit
The last time I got rid of sentimental and things from my parents I took pictures it is nice to see them when they pop up on my feeds but I realised I did not use them.i am nearly ready to do another declutter nick nacks that are in boxes and do not get display
Awesome job ladies! Decluttering is hard and tedious work but it’s so nice to move into a new space with fewer things! It’s very freeing.
Can’t wait to see Beckie’s new apartment! ❤
Yes! Cut off all the long trailings on your pothos plants. They will get nice and bushy as long as you keep it trimmed back till its the size you want then you can let it grow out and trail as long as you want it to be. But they will be healthier if you do this. Enjoy your new home! Can't wait to see it!
I totally save cards..
I love your guys friendship! That looked like a really hard declutter....so much small stuff to go through but you and Becky crushed it yet again! I am so excited to see how everything comes together in her new place in the next episode!
You’ve done so good Becky ❤
My husband was an airline pilot for a large commercial company and he took a flat Stanley on a work excursion for a few days 😁😁😁
Sampson... definition of Ride or Die. So sweet!
Moving has an opportunity to get rid of stuff that doesn’t spark joy twice. When you decide to pack it, and when you unpack it. Both times you can shed it, and getting more space for YOU feels amazing. After I wrote that I heard Carla say pretty much the same thing. Jinx
Becky has great taste in music.
Your braids are cute. We love them here in Texas. Almost at 100K. Yahoo!!
Came to say the same thing! Loving the braids!
Thank you!!☺️
You did great, Becky. Going through all the little precious things is the hardest part.
I have all my cards from childhood, Christmas, valentines, anniversaries and then I kept our 2 childrens cards (I have a problem and everything is sentimental). Becky you did absolutely fantastic decluttering. I think Carla is right you will let more stuff go when you get into your new place. Wishing you health and happiness in your new home. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👏👍💪🙏💐🐕🦺
Yeah I have a lot of cards also including those our 3 children got. Lately I've been decluttering and trying to keep a sample amount and not every single card. It is hard to get rid of them!
Amazing amazing amazing! I am so impressed by your friend's determined effort to try to get rid of things - it will make such a difference when she moves to her new home. Your friend Becky is a darling person - and I'm so so pleased you were there to help her through this stressful time. I like her home where she's living - I like the lovely lady she's living with - I liked the people who came through to see the room - I hope they carry on the welcoming colourful gentle feel of the apartment. I hope her current home becomes the safe refuge for someone else that it was for her. And I'm so so excited by her move to her new home. It can be bitter sweet - but concentrate on the new door opening - and the magic will come!
Carla I really need you today. I'm doing the 30 day minimalist challenge for June. Thank you for being here. Perfect timing. Love all this. Hi Samson. 💃🦮💕
How does that challenge work? Is it the one thing on day one. Two on day two…???
@@LaurelChinnRealEstate-Fairfax Yes!! So far it is kinda easy. I think it gets harder when we get into dates with double digits. Ouch 😖.
@@krystal7382 ok. I’ll do it. I’ve got a bunch of small areas to address.
Wonderful!💖
Hi Carla & Becky early yay !!!! ❤ Samson is ❤
Yes, I keep cards.... just went through them this weekend. Found one from work colleagues when I left them in 1979!! Yep, I have hundreds of cards. Time to cull, me thinks!!
She still has a lot to pack for moving in a week. My thoughts....I think all the cards, mementoes and jewelry should be homework, since it's so time consuming. She can go through all the little boxes of those things as time allows and concentrate on getting other things packed. Look forward to getting her settled & organized in her new place!
so happy for Becky on this new adventure and big move!!! best of wishes
I'm so excited to see how the new place turns out!!!!
Well done, Becky! You seemed to know exactly what you wanted and what you didn't!
Yes ! She has developed her decluttering muscles !
Well done Becky! Can not wait to see you moved in! Big kisses to Samson ❤
Since becoming a minimalist the year I spent so much money buying stuff I didn’t need then hoarding it in storage units over 10 years waste of time and money. I’m 34 and I will no longer do that I only have what I need now
Love your friendship. Decluttering and moving is hard, but Becky looks like she’s ready for a new adventure. ❤
You’re amazing and so persevering Becky. The best thing is that you have such meaningful memories and relationships. Those are the things I reflect on most when I miss the stuff I’ve let go of. Keep making memories! ❤❤❤
10:04 YES!!! I’m so glad you said this!! I’ve been screaming the same thing. I can’t wait to see the moving in episodes!!
I’ve been thinking the same thing! Becky has done a fantastic job of decluttering but a lot more will have to go to comfortably fit into her new space.
Carla, you have some of the coolest friends! Keep the fun videos coming!! You are doing such great work.
Thank you so much❤❤
Great job Becky keep it up. I used to save cards, ticket stubs, etc…. I just let them go they sat in boxes & I never looked @ them. I passed my dad’s cuff links on to others so they could be enjoyed. Made me feel so much better than sitting in a box. The struggle is real w/ sentimental items. The only things I kept from my dad were his war metals & his 1968 Basic Training Yearbook. 😊❤😊 Carla & Samson are the best. Look @ the load going out 🎉
Samson is such a good BOY!!!
Hello, Carla and Becky❤ I've been loving the Becky videos. She needs to be a regular guest on this channel. We need more of Samson too😂❤❤❤❤ You girls are great!
i loved this series so much, cheers to becky (and you of course!) for all her hard work!
Can't wait to see the new place and how she orgenise it. She is so beautiful and kind
Great job as always! l thought this was going to be the last of becky so I was excited to hear there's more to come!
Rubbermaid containers like the blue one in her room would be great to transport plants. When we moved out of state I actually put plants in my wash machine
That’s a great use of untapped storage space!
Ikea totes are also good to move plants.
I do keep cards-after my dad passed away I loved seeing his handwriting.
Wow well done Carla & Becky, ypu did an amazing job 🙌😎 And Carla, I also loved how you helped Becky when you saw her struggling with the sentimental items by being empathetic and positive, big hugs to Mr Samson too who is an excellent supervisor 😊 ❤️
Those small decisions really do take so much time. It's an emotional clean out that comes along with the physical clean out that is so difficult for me. Well done, Becky. I can see you feeling lighter. And Samson really is a ladies man. 😎
Take a picture from cards and letters and knick knacks. So you can give them away and keep the memory in a folder on your PC. Less space and nothing gets lost 😊
You can really see how Becky lights up with every memory attached to her mementos! Sometimes i think your vlogs are like what "Friends" (the series) would be in real life :-) Ican't wait for Beckys new place! I also remember when I valued every little memento so much that I had to keep it. Today I know that i (personally) dont need them anymore to feel the good feelings, live the good relationships. I just live and life is so much lighter. But still can understand how hard it is to let go (and making all those decisions!).
You did a great job, Becky! The more you declutter, the easier it gets. Wishing you all the best of luck in your new place. That’s very exciting! Can I give you a tip on your pothos /philodendrons? When they start to get real leggy with a lot of space between the leaves, they need to be cut back to encourage new growth from the root, resulting in a much healthier plant. ❤️
I keep my cards for a year until i get a new one from the same person. So i do have my last cards from my Mom and i am greatful for it, as she passed last July.
This is a mammoth task and a very realistic view of the effort it takes to undertake this process, I’m so proud of you both for making some very tough decisions. Hang in there, it’s painful but very very helpful in the end. Can’t wait for the next ep ❤❤❤
Becky you have very pretty hands - and the sweestest smile ❤
Becky did such a great job of decluttering. Thank you Carla for bringing us along. Love when you help your friends declutter. Can’t wait to see Becky’s new place. Also love the series with your other girlfriend that moved back to California.
Love following along on Becky’s journey. Looking forward to seeing the new place with the items she moves! Love seeing Samson in your videos! 🐾♥️
I am SO looking forward to the set up and organizing of her new space!!
Advice from someone who downsized after 23 years in the same place, you will feel such relief that you got rid of so much. You will get rid of a lot more as you unpack in the new place. It will be so much easier to clean and organize that you will wish you had done it sooner. Best wishes ❤
Excellent progress! I bet the new renter will love all that space and storage in Becky's room. Can't wait to see the new place and watch Becky settle in. I hope all her things fit...let's stay optimistic!
I kept cards until age 47. Then I sorted through all of them and got rid of most of them. It was fun to relive the memories once, but I don't want to do that much physical or emotional work again. ❤
Been waiting for a new Carla video ! Yay ❤
Yes, I keep my cards too.
I want all the plants 😍
This series is soooo good! Can’t wait to see how you unpack Becky in to her new place! Well done to Becky 🤩
I love the area she lives in, it looks so lush and green. My kinda place.
I love that Sampson is included and you two ladies are absolutely sweethearts!❤️❤️❤️
Another great declutter. ❤ Thank you for the motivation. It helps me declutter. I can't wait to see you organise the new home. 😊
GREAT JOB GIRLS!! WOOF TO SAMSON HE'S SO CUTE! ☮️💜
I hope we get to see the new places.
I know it’s tedious work but just think how good it’s gonna feel in the new place! 😍. Can’t wait to see the finale. 🏡
There was a time in my life when I moved a lot and always appreciated the opportunity to get rid of things I didn't use or had even forgotten about. It felt like a symbol of moving on with my life and keeping only what made sense.
Great job Becky! Don't forget to put away your favorite things first when you unpack, so anything that doesn't fit us automatically not as favorite and can be safely donated.
I've been a finalist my whole adult life.. grew up with so much clutter...I couldnt function.....I love being this way. 63 now and love that I don't have do much stuff ❤
I keep cards that are special in a scrapbook. I’ve also seen folks keep them by punching a hole or two in them and hooking them together with a snap ring. Then they are easy to look at anytime.
Samson is soo cute😍. Great work again girls- love it. Take care❤
Great job Becky! It can be hard to get rid of items you've kept for so long, but, you really won't regret it as you bask in the loveliness of your new home. I used to keep cards, but, as I got older, they began to feel like unnecessary clutter. I no longer give or receive (for the most part) cards. The cards I do get remain on display for a few months and then get recycled. If I give a card, it's been cross stitched by me and given a frame-like card to be kept as decor. I'm so looking forward to seeing you in the new place!
Hi Carla, thank you for the video. Both you and Becky are such an inspiration! Samson is an awesome helper and just so adorable ❤️. Just love watching your videos, keep up the great work 🙏🏽❤️☀️💐
Only thing I ever comment but I love you hair! So pretty with braids 😍
So proud of you Becky! We can all see how personal these things are for you. Your new place is lovely and I can't wait to see how you decorate it! Ideally, I'd like to move from an apartment to an RV Class B or C.
Becky is blossoming as the decluttering is going on. Got to be something in the psychological aspect of getting things in order. I now know, the more I’ve cleared out, the easier it is to look seriously at things and ask yourself THE questions. You know the questions having watched Carla helping all the others. One particular aspect I have become better with, is my family and friends asking me if I’d like items such as clothes, or they plan on getting rid of baby, children’s clothing. I tell them to donate or sell on, or offer for free to market place. Nothing is sent to landfill.
Go Becky! Excited to see her new place once she’s settled. I keep all my birthday cards too. I’m in the process of having them turned into a book. Hugs to you, Carla.
Great idea 👍
My daughter said when l die shes giving all my stuff to charity 😮. I told her that my craft and art stuff is worth quite a few quid 💷. She doesn't know what its all worth so she said to put prices on the tubs now. Im going to do that lol 😂 😂. Practical solution.
i'm so excited to see her new place!! and am curious what will fit vs what she might go further with. and i was just thinking, if i had never decluttered in the past 24 years (since having my own place) I would have SO MUCH stuff. SO MUCH. Becky's in declutter boot camp and doing a great job! I imagine she will love living with just what she values and treasures
Great job, can not wait to see how you fix up the new place
You guys are blessed in your friendship ❤️ I am a 🪭
take pictures of special letters and cards and put them in a file 'memories', same with other memorabilias, presents and other niknaks.
Yes, Becky I’m a card keeper!!! They are special and a pick me up! Also so special to see my Grandparent’s handwriting now that they’ve passed away! You’re such an inspiration! I hope my Mom can get a pep in her step by watching your decluttering journey!
i moved from an 800 sq ft apt to a 400 sp ft apart and i consider myself a minimalist. i decluttered so much before i moved and then again so much after as well, even though i thought i didnt have that much it was just so different in the space
