    My Polish soul lept for joy seeing our beloved 'Golabki' featured with a Newfoundland twist. I WILL give your vesion a try, it sounds very tasty. I usually use ground beef. some folks use pork, and a tomato soup base. This recipe would pair perfectly with your dark rye bread too! Thanks.

    When I was a kid, my mother used to make cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers, and I hated them. As an adult, they're some of my favorite meals. These slow cooker cabbage rolls look delicious and I wish I could come over and help Raymond eat them.🙂

      Right! They are nice cooked both ways in the slow cooker and in the oven, thank you so much for your message and enjoy to the fullest. :) Bonita

    I have a mixed Slavic ancestry, which includes Polish and Ukrainian. I love cabbage rolls very much. I have to say you made some very tasty looking cabbage rolls. Ground turkey is a nice twist on them. The ones I had growing up in Alberta, had only rice as the filling. I hope you and Raymond have a great Sunday. Cheers, Bonita! ✌️🇨🇦

      Once you have these stuffed with meat and rice - you'll never go back to cabbage rolls only stuffed with rice. This spelling is strictly phonetical - we called them, galumpkey(s)😋

    Genius tip with shredding the smaller part of the cabbage and adding to the mixture before rolling. Bulks up the filling and gives it a more cabbagey punch in flavour. And THAT is why I watch your channel. Thank you Bonita! hope you have a great day.

    Reason 1 for adding stock: we have to clean out our bottle! I love it. I grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia and I always use my stock to rinse out my tomato cans when I'm cooking! I love your recipes Bonita! Can't wait to try this delicious cabbage roll recipe.

    Beautiful recipe Bonita...I've never made it with turkey (always a beef/pork mix) but it sounds totally delicious. I add 1/3 of a large bottle of the hot/spicy V8 juice instead of water to the stuffing mix & the other 2/3s to the cooking liquid. Just adds an extra little something. Thank you once again for another great video & I look forward to trying this out.

    These are so good. Once, when I came home from the dentist my mouth was so numb, I ate like five or six. I didn't feel full because I couldn't taste them. But when the numbness wore off I had another one - I could taste 😅 but what a stomach ache!
    Campbells Tomato Soup was what my mom used over the tops.
    Thank you for yet another delicious recipe 🥰😋

    Do you do this when you are using beef?

    • @bonitaskitchen

    Time saving tip on making cabbage rolls: freeze your cabbage head… it takes a day to freeze solid, and another to thaw completely… when thawed it’s just like you’ve boiled the thing. Then proceed as normal

    • @bonitaskitchen
      @bonitaskitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Marie, some people do like freezing it before rolling them. I don't like the taste of frozen cabbage but it will be lovely for rolling for sure. Have a wonderful day and thank you :) Bonita

    My husband's family made their cabbage rolls using sour cabbage and did not add tomato juice. I just add water and basically steam them in the oven or in the slow-cooker

  • @wilfbentley6738

    My late Ukrainian mother-in-law used to put heavy cream in the sauce, and served them with gallons of sour cream. She also used precooked rice. She precooked the meat with finely diced mushrooms and onions. Mum in law used 2 cabbages and started by coring them. As the whole cabbage boils the outer leaves come away from the head and can be pulled out to cool. The smaller leaves she used to line the roaster. I add sliced fennel bulb and fennel seed to both the sauce and filling.

      Nice! Thank you Wilf for stopping by and sharing your late mother-in-laws method with us. I always love to hear stories about family recipes and time will spent. Thank you :) We have another ground beef cabbage roll recipe posted they are something the same but taste a little different. I love adding sour cream to my cabbage rolls. My late friend Jona would make Ukrainian cabbage rolls for me and pork baked over top it was so tasty. Have a lovely day and enjoy :) Bonita

    oh my ... I miss cabbage rolls. Can't have them anymore since I'm allergic to cabbage. Wonder what I could use in stead of it and still make them.

    • @bonitaskitchen
      @bonitaskitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh my Ella that is so sad, cabbage is the best and can be used in so many meals. I'm sure you can just make the turkey mixture and make turkey balls and put them in a roaster covered with sauce and of course the lid and bake them that way. I'm sure it would be lovely or cover in slices of bell peppers. Enjoy Bonita
