Micah is spot on with the Southgate situation
He says you need to pick in form players, then contradicts himself by saying you know exactly which players France are going to play where…so which is it? In form players, or consistency in team selection??
But we need players who perform for England take a look back on that 4-0 Hungary defeat we played on form players like the fans beg for and look what happened we got humilated
@@HarryKanee It wasn't due to the players but tactics from Southgate. Whenever England plays a team that are very good in transition and can keep the ball well they struggle a hell lot.

For all of his laughter and good vibes, he has fascinating insights from not only the golden generation of the NT, but from playing for an EPL winning team, working with elite managers and even briefly playing overseas. Very few players have that profile.

There isn’t a lack of CB’s anymore, that was two years ago.
Now we have Tomori, Dunk, Colwill, Mings and Guehi that can play the left centre-back role, with Stones, White, Chalobah and if needed Walker at the right CB spot.
There’s no need to fit Maguire in, if there’s others playing regularly at a good level.

@@HarryKanee Mate, if you give one of these CB's a run of games next to Stones, they'll do just a good of a job, and most likely be even better, because they actually play football.
The only reason Phillips is in the side is because of a lack of depth at DM, if there were three more English players in that postion, he shouldn't be in the squad either.

Have you watched much of Tomori? He wasn’t great for a team that actually struggled defensively last year
Why do you want inexperience players to play so badly Southgate knows more than all of us
People ignore how many individual errors Tomori made last year. A lot of what people perceive to be ‘Maguire howlers’ are errors caused by others not pressing or putting him under the pressure

It's amazing the amount of times they get asked a question and Shearer answers a different one. Like that question about an opposition goal and Shearer babbles on about the Van Basten goal against the USSR. I never realised Shearer played for the Soviets in the 80's. Must be frustrating if you're the person asking the question.
Micah is spot on here. I remember Frank, Gerrard and Rio during pundit after talk were talking how there was no comradery for England squad, meanwhile when the tournament is over and they talk to their club teammates, every single one of them were talking how great it was to get back together with their countrymen and play for their countries. You don't have that with England back then, but Southgate manage to instill that feelings to the national team.
He did years ago but to keep failing and losing in semi or finals will only install a failing culture every other manager was sacked after not winning anything but yet he’s lasted this long and we can’t say we’ve been that good we get easy group games and easy qualifiers as soon as we play a good team they lose

All managers have their favourites…and picking players based solely on form means you would have a different starting XI EVERY game…which has never worked!

I respect Southgate for the 2018 World Cup. He gave us unreal memories and got us further than we should’ve really (granted we had an easy run), the issue with Southgate is he’s never been an elite manager. 1-0 up inside a minute in a euro final in your own country, it is not acceptable to park the bus for 90 minutes and that’s where we will always fall short. He’s gotten to later stages because of the unreal players he has at his disposal, any elite manager would get us over the line in that final and I also think in the france game in qatar. His game management in big moments is horrendous and that’s not a dig it’s just fact that the job is too big for him

@@HarryKaneeprior teams and generations underperforming doesn’t give Southgate and this team a free ride. McLaren, Capello and Hodgson got battered for not winning the games you mention and rightly so. The mindset of past failures meaning what Southgate is doing (winning games we should be winning) is outstanding is a loser’s mentality. It doesn’t hurt enough to lose because ‘we did well to get to the semis/final’. And lost to an Italy team that didn’t even qualify for the WC in said final!
OP is bang on. Southgate has been great with the media, got the team all singing from the same hymn sheet and pride in the shirt back. However, he goes the same way of all his predecessors - is in winning positions and gets it all wrong with his game management and poor decision making under pressure.

Loved this one sat on my terrace on holiday in Turkey with a rum and coke. Bloody lovely. Totally agree with Big Meeks...Southgate picking his favourite will almost certainly cost us when it matters...Best group of England players who actually all get on with each other...Time to go hard or go home.

The fact that Maguire and Kalvin Philips are in the squad blows my mind. I mean being French I love it, because it makes your team not as good. But if Deschamps insisted in playing Thauvin or Umitit, I'd be up in arms. These are players were in the 2018 squad, the latter even scored a key goal vs Belgium. But they haven't delivered enough since and have been deservedly dropped.
Your totally right we don't want players that haven't played for there club..we need players that are playing consistently but Southgate pics his favourites that's why we fail at every tournament

I Saw some compilations of Gary. I never watched them and they are pretty rare to find tbf. Born in Germany 89 doesnt really Help aswell, to get to Know all the great english players. But From what I have seen, I think Gary played Like R9! Not the fancy tricks, but the drive and the Speed to get past the Last Defender and His positioning. The Scoring ability was pure. The stats tell the rest. My father told me he was scared of him!

Younger fans have no idea how brutal the media used to be . here was no socials back then, but tabloids would openly mock managers and sabotage their own country's chances with negative headlines and borderline treachery. The mental pressure resulted in players crumbling. RIP Graham Taylor & Bobby Robson.

Maguire was a literal pressing trigger for Senegal. Against France he was getting caught under crosses and eventually was beating by a cross. Against Germany in the nations league, he had a hand in two goals. He was dodgy in recent games against Italy and Iran.
He has become a liability for England. A long way off the great defender from the Euros
Idk what maguire you're on about but in an England shirt he's England's best defender since Bobby Moore most goals for England as a defender and constantly in every team of the tournament at a major tournament

It's about his tactics and management as a coach. Micah is spot on, the players he has make him look good regardless. Based on the squad England has, they will reach the Semi-Finals in the international tournaments.

Used to play as a striker at a half decent level on Saturdays then pub league on Sundays.
On the Sunday one season we came up against a team you could tell were really bad from their results. I had the exact same mindset as Lineker and Shearer. There’s goals here. 6-0 up at H/T I’ve already got a hat trick, manager takes me off. We win 9-0.
In the reverse fixture, we embarrassingly (a bit like England v San Marino) go 1-0 down. Order restored quickly 7-1 up at H/T, again already with a hat trick. I say to our manager don’t you even dream of taking me off here…
So I stay on, end up with 8 goals in the game and we win 17-1. I’m comfortably the top scorer in the league.
A few days later this team decided they’d had enough and cut their losses and folded. So I lose 11 goals!!! And the team lose a 26-1 favourable g/d! Thankfully we still won the league and I was still top scorer but maybe in hindsight he should have subbed me again in the second game!

Pep would be such a great appointment for all parties; I think the England job is such a toxic position. It would be a real test of skill and character to manage a squad full of top-to-world-class players.
England manager should be from England, Germany manager from Germany and so on.

Southgate is a great man manager and clearly bought a much needed sense of togetherness to the squad, but he is tactically inept which becomes blatantly obvious every time we actually play a top team, and it's cost us in the last 2 tournaments. the other thing is when he got the job he said he'd pick players based on their form, and that's gone completely out the window.
You know when it was 1-1 against France last tournament, neither manager made any changes! To say Southgate cost us is a fallacy, especially when we finished the game having had more possession and more shots on target than France! Revisionist history at its finest!
Southgate would fit the women's national team with all due respect

Southgate might've made England better than they were, but like you said they weren't great but they've always had top quality players, I think what Steve Clarke has done with Scotland has been more impressive and they're yet to even qualify for a tournament, so who's to say another manager wouldn't do a better job, England need to freshen things up
