He definitely deserves it though, bro was on that lore grind before the new movies were even conceived
It's a shame George RR Martin isnt going to end ASoIaF, loved those vids from quinn as well

Yeah he’s who introduced me to the world of dune
It's not.....
Don't get me wrong, I dig the channel but a lot of his Dune vids are literally just Cliff's Notes of the books. I appreciate what he does and that people enjoy it, bringing people to Dune and all that....but in no way would I classify it as "an integral part of the modern Dune experience".

It's actually crazy how he went from just another A song of Ice and Fire theory youtuber (although a very good one) to THE Dune guy
He saw the GoT ship going down in flames and unlike most other GoT youtubers he actually made an effort to do something else on his channel. Most others just kept on churning out GoT content no matter how much a s shitshow the GoT became.
And he became the three-body problem guy

This video really opened my eyes up to things happening. You know? Like events that happen to occur.
The fact that the 1980s actually happened kinda blows my mind. What did they even do to pass the time back then? Like I know people existed back then but it's just so hard to imagine what life was like before the invention of the Dune popcorn bucket.
Edit: I think it's funny that all the responses are 80s kids taking my joke seriously and then using it as an excuse to brag about how they had third places, walkable neighbourhoods and parents that gave their kids freedom and privacy. Yeah, I would've like that too. You don't need to rub it in. Y'all got rid of all that so you could have a car centric lifestyle. All kids these days can do for recreation is play with our Dune popcorn buckets because that's all we can do. Just let us have this one thing. That's all I ask.

Cool of you to shout out to Quinn's Ideas - I've read and reread Dune multiple times since the 90's and his videos still gave me some really cool tidbits! Also, lol
I was a huge fan of Dune in the 80s (I am approaching 62 yrs old). It seemed just another way I was out an out of step nerd. I could not seem to get my fiends to understand why. Then 1984 Dune movie did not help matters. I was also a huge Rush fan that stayed with them. Public opinion on them changes as well. This quick spot spoke to me.

Dune is nerdy as hell in any context. I love it all the same.
This.. might just be your masterpiece. Somehow you said so much about society, consumers, trends, and the fascinating/frustrating time, all wrapped it in a cheeky bit of Dune commentary. The more that changes, the more that oddly stays the same.
40 hours of youtube lore is a personal attack
this really made me think about how times have changed, things are different now
I am glad you are directly calling people out for not taking the 6-8 hours that it takes to enjoy a good book while they sit there in front of 36 hours worth of youtube videos, absorbing maybe 10% of the content, and then walking around as if they read the material. It reminds me a lot of E.M Forester's "The Machine Stops," where no one wants to discuss their own ideas, but only ideas that have been discussed ten or eleven times- and if you're not discussing an idea that ten famous people haven't already gone over, no one cares. This video encapsulates that perfectly: So many people are eager to discuss concepts and stories that they've never interacted with themselves, and only know through second or third-hand accounts. The times change, and they suck.
Reminds me of this line from the film Metropolitan (context being that the character who says this is a pseudo-intellectual wealthy socialite): “I don't read novels. I prefer good literary criticism. That way you get both the novelists' ideas as well as the critics' thinking. With fiction I can never forget that none of it really happened, that it's all just made up by the author. You don't have to have read a book to have an opinion on it.”
It's because the previous Dune movies were trash, even for their era. It leaves a bad impression of the source material. I refuse to read a single star wars book after the prequels and recent ones and hate star wars. My older family members who grew up with the original star wars movies feel the opposite. This is the game with me liking LOTR cuz I experienced the original trilogy and the younger generation hates it because of rings of power and the hobbit movies.

@@usemt9726 No.

I was physically, mentally, and emotionally abused as a kid (early to mid 90s) and now everyone acts like it never happened and the stuff that my father and countless other adults got away with in the 80s and 90s would definitely put them in prison for years. Times are definitely changing. (Sorry about getting so dark. I need to get this stuff out before it kills me. I'm thinking of making a confessional video of all the horrors I experienced. It's cathartic. Pray for me. Or the very least, think of people like me.)
