    Currently enrolled in beauty school and I just want to set the record straight for anybody watching this that it actually is NOT recommended to come into the salon with hopes of bleaching your hair with fresh clean hair. The reason you don’t want to wash your hair before coming in for the any lightning processing is because the bleach can actually burn tour scalp from the heat that your body creates. The oils and dirt build up in your hair is actually protecting you from damaging your scalp.
    You don’t have to listen to me but please do your research first before listening to one video on the matter.

    Boy I had to whip out my handy dandy notebook cause girl 👏👏👏 great tips!!! I have similar texture and curls but after years of constant bleaching I began to loose my curls and it was a hot and crispy mess!!! It was so bad that the last time I tried going to get my hair colored at the salon2 years ago the past year or maybe a longer, the beautician told me NO! She told me if I touch my hair with one more harsh chemical that it would literally fall off.. After that I committed to leaving my hair alone letting it regrow and now my curls are back and beautiful... Problem is I'm so F'n bored of it!!! And I've been going round and round the last few days on whether I should dye my hair and thank you so much for your his video!!!! It helped me decide to do it and there's still hope for my curls

    I truly enjoy your videos. I have naturally wavy hair and have been working on enhancing those. I love my hairdresser and get highlights every 12 weeks at longest. My issue is the top of my hair always turns brassy. Now it is not just this hairdresser I have had this problem all my life. She, nor do any of her other co-workers, say they have never seen hair like mine. Now I have gray hair to cover so she always does my roots first. She highlights, and puts me under the dryer and tones. And then she's frustrated because my hair does not want to cooperate. My last visit she had me come in the following week to redo it and it didn't come out much better. She suggested maybe she come to my house and do my roots the night before and have me come in the next day for my highlights. She uses great products and she uses a great toner and nobody can understand why my hair is doing this. I do use my purple shampoo. How often do you suggest that I use it? I am going to use your suggestion and do a protein treatment before I go in. But do you have any other advice for me?

    • @BriannaAnnette
      @BriannaAnnette 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The top of your hair you’re referring to your roots right? It’s just the underlying pigment is stubborn and not getting counteracted with the toning. Ask her if she’s using only purple pigments in the toning formula. She might need to mix in something more blue undertones to counteract the brassiness more. Is it more orange than yellow brass? Use blue shampoo and see if that helps you at home. The fanola blue shampoo is great.

    • @Kristina2
      @Kristina2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm 34 and have white hair. It is mostly on the front crown of my hair, the part that you can see if I put my hair up in a ponytail. I started getting white hair when I was 28. I had a very very very stressful life. Not so much anymore. I actually noticed that since I took out silicones, sulfates, and harsh chemicals my white hair is not so prominent, like it almost stopped becoming white and started coming in my natural darker brown. I don't know the science behind this or anything, but I do know that I still have white hair but not as much.
      BTW, I get complimented on my white hair all the time. I don't understand it, but people always ask me if I died my hair deliberately to be white. I guess b/c I have some streaks of white that look kinda like that woman from the dalmatian cartoons from disney. But like I said, those streaks are not nearly as big/wide/ as they used to be.
      So my long comment is kind of to say just let it go, in my opinion. Everyone's hair goes grey or white eventually. If you think about it, not being grey or white is not 'normal.' I highly doubt people are looking at you and going "look at all that grey hair, eww." No. You are more concerned with it than anyone else, and I totally understand that. Just know that it's beautiful regardless.

    so basically: Before the appointment make sure to wash your with a protein shampoo and or conditioner to prep it? then a hairstyle to make it easier for the person bleaching the hair. During the appointment after the bleaching process is done immediately do either the protein or olaplex treatment. then to maintain your hair only use shampoo/conditioner for colored hair, and use the olaplex or protein thing again?

    I have really dry wavy hair and I recently got my hair re dyed and my stylist literally tore my hair with her brush and was so rough. Then after my hair was freshly bleached, she took a regular towel and rubbed it so harshly over my hair (I cringed). Then once I was done at the wash station she ripped through my hair again with her comb (on freshly bleached delicate hair) and put NO product or heat protectant on before roughly dragging her brush through my hair and blow drying it. My curls are gonna hate me next wash day it was so bad... IM LITERALLY SO UPSET I feel like my hair is ruined 🥲

      I started going to a new hair dresser for the last 10 months or so, and whatever bleach she's using on me, gets my skin really itchy! Mostly my hands, but a little bit almost everywhere. And my face and hands turn red until about an hour after she rinses it off. When i was going to another stylist years ago, that never happened. It seems like im allergic to some ingredient. I regret doing the very last bleaching, it was blonde but I wanted that silver-lilac look. I got the silver but it was at the cost of my curls.
    I wear it up a lot or dye it with crazy semi-permanent colors because it’s hard to style it and make it look good

    When you said you have the stylist do another treatment at the bowl after rinsing are you referring to a treatment of All 3 steps of Olaplex or just 2 and 3, since, hopefully, she put #1 in the color to begin with?

    Hey Mell!
    There's been quite a hype lately with coloured shampoo. Ie. Purple for blonde dye..
    I'm going to dye my hair for the first time in 10 years .. should this be something I include in my regime, or is a good colour safe product just fine..? I'm going from a red brown color to blonde highlights...

    You actually are supposed to go in for a bleaching with dirty/oily hair. If your hair is freshly washed when you go in, your scalp is open and more prone to irritation and chemical burns! Also, olaplex no.3 should be used on clean hair so it can penetrate the hair shaft..

    • @ManesByMell
      @ManesByMell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I mention that for curly hair it is better to have “clean hair” in the sense that u don’t have product build up. Sometimes people with curly hair do have this and risk chemical reaction/ colour change due to the product existing on their hair. So again clean hair as in not a lot of product build up, not exactly freshly washed hair. I also do mention that my hair was freshly washed the day before applying the olaplex and does not have product on-top except for a simple leave in conditioner 😘

      @isabellabourque4802 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ManesByMell
      @ManesByMell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Every stylist has their preference I guess ☺️ I recommend having little to no product in the hair like I mentioned 🤗 but the hair does not need to be freshly washed. Hope I clarified that

    Hi Mel - do you still do this same routine before/during/after color treatment? I'm having my dark brown hair lightened in a few weeks to several shades lighter - not quite blonde but almost. My wavy hair is super healthy currently and I want to keep it that way. This video is a couple years old so just wondered if you had any updates to this routine? Thanks!!

    My struggle is...I just had streaks done Friday, the stylist put a good brand leave-in on my hair, TIGHTLY braided it, then sprayed some light hairspray on it. Do I go home and olaplex, deep condition and moisturize? Or let it dry and heal before I touch it?

    Can you do a video on highlights that look very natural on dark hair, only 1-2 (maybe 3) tones lighter? Just to break up the void of the darkness and actually be able to see some definition xp My hair is 2b-3C curls, fine, med density... but virgin x.x so i'm really scared since all the places i'm seeing do everything really blotchy and chunky x.x so i dunno how to ask or what to look for when choosing someone. How to take care of it before and after too o,o right now it's overly moisturized, so been staying away from masks, but wondering if it's finally a good time to pop my cherry?

      hey beautiful ! sorry for disturbing u so long after u posted this comment but i’ve come across it and i suggest you look up lowlights! they’re basically highlights but darker. find what you’d like and save some pics as inspo for your stylist! make sure you find a hairstylist or place that can u can trust to do the job. i think it’d look amazing on you and your curls, it will help make them pop and bring out they’re shape! but remember that beauty and confidence come from the inside and if you shine on the inside you’ll shine on the outside too! have a blessed day xx 💖

      Essentially, your optimal outcome will be produced from a freshly cleansed canvas. Lightening is a chemical process. With the wide range of chemicals and ingredients in hair products, you are risking an unpredictable chemical reaction. This could cause more damage, unexpected tones and uneven results.
      However, you're not wrong about a protective layer of 'grease'. Coconut oil is the solution! Clean hair and smother it in coconut oil. Over night is ideal for saturation but not always realistic. Coconut will help reduce damage, protect your scalp, and doesn't interfere with the lightening. I add it straight to my mixture as well. I mix it with the bleach first, then add developer. It bonds molecularly best this way.
      This does not apply to color. Bleach only.
      Hope your outcome exceeds expectations!!!
