I remember the beautiful North Station with the steam trains. I think it was demolished around 1970..I think now it would be protected from being bulldozed
I have to admit that it did need demolishing as it looks hideous. It has got the urban concrete jungle look to it so it is definitely going to be an improvement in that area.
About time, a parking lot built in a style known as "brutalist" is pulled down with a t. rex crane, it is near a motion picture theater and is being removed for a streetcar yard.
If you would like a fibreglass panel from the old Fine Fare you can come down & pick one up. You can still see them attached to the Talbot Road side of the store in the video.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool nah bit big 😉 I liked the no frills range they did with the black n white stensiled lettering. I think they were first at that.
I remember when that building was Fine Fare 😂 Glad to see it going, it’s incredibly ugly, couldn’t have picked a worse time in the calendar though, typical Blackpool, Illuminations started last week and demolition/inevitable disruption the following week!
I was just gonna say that lol i remember it being fine fare as a kid on one of my many visits to Blackpool for holidays and day trips! sadly dont get there now as i live in Bristol but my family still live in manchester so when this awful covid is over and i go to visit them i think a trip to blackpool is on the cards! last time i came was over 10 yrs ago for an overnight stay in Oct with my partner who had nevr been!
Built in 1977 - 1978 and opened in 1979 as a Fine Fare supermarket . I can remember the picture in the Blackpool Gazette, a long shot of all the checkouts with the girls sitting at the cash registers . It is a hideous building and will be better off demolished!! Just as awful as the police station and law courts at New Bonny street. Grey depressing and brutal. GET RID !!

Hmmm....the diesel-powered T-Rex demolition crew....no worries we'll have this building chewed up by Christmas. Where's the crane with the giant steel ball ? Don't do that anymore ? Maybe to close to swing with the pedestrians..

Good riddance to this Brutalist structure, was so unwelcoming to visitors to Blackpool. Must be very satisfying for the operator of that machine to tear it down! I look forward to the next video.... great stuff Stephen .
I think it should have stayed, but be cladded in modern panels, which could have included several big screens to advertise. The trams could still come in up the road and stop at the side.
It was not a pretty building, but I will miss being able to go up there and take photographs from the top. It also had a notorious history of suicide jumpers.

How long had Wilkos been there, was it a purpose build or did they move in ?
Matlock next I've heeeard.
The building has been there 40 years. It was originally a Fine Fare.

Do you know when works start on central car park? and will you be covering that?
I don't think anything will happen there until next year at the earliest, but I will cover it when it does.
Can any one remember all the shops that have had that building over the years I remember in the 80s but I just can not remember
It started with Fine Fare, then Gateway and it was Food Giant before Wilkinsons. Then Wilkinson's became Wilko after one of the family severed ties with the group.
One guy actually working in the plant machinery doing the demolition, the rest just standing and watching.

Looks like you're planning a series... How often can we expect the demise of Wilko to grace our subscriptions feed?
Many times I am sure.
Gone are the days with a ball and chain
One less store for blackpools spice heads to go shoplifting in
Wilkos is a great store. I hope they have moved elsewhere locally.
They haven't.
Closing down all o'er.
When did they start the demolition
Back in September.
Walter forshaw demolition from Bolton
They also brought down the Layton High rise flats, which I did a vid on years ago.
I've been going to Blackpool every year for decades and I don't think I've seen this area, where is it?
MarkoRollo It’s right in the heart of town.
It's corner of Dickson rd n Talbot rd...near old bus station. North Pier five mins walk . Bet you passed many times just not been aware.
We never go further that way than the North Pier, unless we're on the tram into Fleetwood or somewhere.
This was the site of Blackpool North Station up until the late sixties.
What was It Before Willkinsons
Fine Fare originally, then a Gateway & Food Giant after.
Remember shopping in there with Mum and Dad when it was Fine Fare probably 1979 👍
i only came here to hear the mustang
Well I bet you were not disappointed.
One of the owd slotty 'kings' of the town, used to act nasty with the young lasses they'd take up into the hills after lights out.

DJI Osmo Pocket.

Demolishing everything these days 😡😡😡
It looks a recently built building and they are demolishing it already, what a waste of money. It's so ugly though.
