this story feels like a mission from GTA
Lmao
Yep
When I tried to get other people to see this and explained it to anyone this is exactly what they thought I was talking about. Gta the movie.
that's so damn accurate lol
They even have a similar green alien costume to the one in gta
The fact that most of the twisted stuff is real makes the movie even more shocking.
i think the fact the movie plays it off like some sort of comedy is even worse
I laughed the whole way through hysterically before being told it was based on real events
@@ice843
Yeah I laughed hard myself.
@@nathancardenas2719
I mean, the story is way too insane and darkly hilarious to make it a super serious movie, any smart director would make this dark comedy.
I remember watching a documentary about the real events some time after I watched movie and just sat there in disbelief and horror as I thought to myself "Real innocent people died from these and the movie made me laugh about it!"
"listen.. I watched a lot of movies, I know what I am doing"
Great line.
They actually did a good job making a dark true crime story light hearted until you get to the ending and they were sentenced to death. The tone of the movie is unique
This Comment is brought to you by Raid Spoiler Legends
They sleept in the house of the people they killed. They where hardened murderers and deserved the death penalty.
@@ahabduennschitz7670 The movie is 8 years old and based on a True Story. Spoilers no longer apply.
As of 2021 they are still on death row...
@@jeffreylawrence6928 i know and I still can't wrap my head around how you can be on death row for 10+ years. So not only does lethal injection cost more than life in jail but we also pay for their time in jail on top . So its even more costly. Wish they'd do a firing squad instead. Saves money and the brutal murders shouldn't get a painless death
Dwayne Johnson’s best performance and I will argue he deserved a nomination for his performance he WAS great in this
Totally agree!
You emphasised the wrong word.
@@robovac3557 no I emphasized the right word. He HASN’T had a great performance since. Don’t say Hobbs because Hobbs was introduced 2 years previous in Fast Five.
@@JohnnySturdivant Sorry. I MADE a massive mistake.

The real story sounds like it would have made an intense Martin Scorsese film!
OMG...can you imagine what Scorsese would have done with this movie???
@Jhon Sepulvedo only one of most critically acclaimed directors ever lol
The film is shithot
Yea Because Alls Michael Bay Do Is Blow Shit Up..😂😂😂
Oh shit ı want that movie!
This film is so underrated!
This is actually my favorite movie with Marky Mark and the Rock.
Did you know Marky Mark beat up a Vietnamese guy before it became widely accepted and reported that Asian Americans are widely discriminated and assailed against in a disproportionate way in the United States of America?
@@scv909 heum ok...
@@scv909 was it actually racially motivated tho
@@coltongates7397 are you kidding? Google Mark Wahlberg beats Vietnamese guy and see how bad it is.
Colton Gates I think mark did say it was racially charged. That he was angry and he put it on the man because of his race
I actually think because the real life story is so ridiculous it actually works and is very entertaining.
I shudder to think so many people are entertained by this. Inhuman to say the least
@@steamedhamlet u should know by now true stories the more gritty, grotesque, and outright horrible the more ppl want to see it
@@steamedhamlet You have to watch it to understand it... Knowing the FULL FACTS behind the story makes it understandable why it was "Dramatised" in the manner it was... As the reality is MORE UNBELIEVEABLE than the actual film...
...In addition, it also gets people to look into and understand a deeply disturbing crime that many would otehrwise never have heard of! I have an ineterst in True Crime Stories.. 10 Rillington Place is a Favourite movie of mine despite covering one of the most sadistic bastards ever here in the UK, Namely Reginald Christie - Landlord, Back Street Abortionist and Necorphilliac Rapist!
A deeply disturbing Story, but one few know about sadly... Which they should - While it is decades ago, Police can still struggle even now when faced with a clever opponant to find a criminal and bring them to justice... And Christie WAS CLEVER - He convinced the Fiancee of one of his victims that he would HANG for his Girlfirends death... And he did! The wrong man was hung and psthumously pardoned AFTER MORE BODIES were found!
It may seem sick for people to get entertainment out of a movie such as Pain and Gain, but I woudl never have even knwn about The Sun Gym Gang had it not been for this movies existence... Think about it that way! It draws attention to Heinous Criminal Acts that others may otherwise ignore or never know about.
I can see why this real life story attracted Michael Bay. Most of the crazy stuff that happens is true.
One of the few Michael Bay movies to actually be enjoyable
Bad boys, The rock, armageddon, bad boys 2, the island, transformers 1.. Dude consistently makes enjoyable movies.. It was really just when he made 1000 transformers films it got kind of stale
@@mullaoslo "Dude makes enjoyable movies"... Piss off.
@@mullaoslo should’ve stopped after “bad boys, the rock”
13 Hours was enjoyable.
Like the other guy said, the bad boy movies, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, even the earlier transformer movies. Etc And as mentioned, Pain and Gain.
I get that he's a running joke with big explosions. But that doesn't delete his many enjoyable movies.
I really, really love this movie. “My name is Daniel Lugo and I believe in fitness.”
Fuckin awesome
This movie is fantastic. Michael bays humour is so unique and twisted, I'm a fan.
I had no idea! I saw this movie when it came out and enjoyed it very much. You can’t go wrong with Marky Mark and The Rock.
Who directed it?
Obviously, you can go wrong with the rock and Mark Wahlberg.
When I first saw this picture I really liked it. I'm not a Michael Bay fan at all but it's a 4/5 star
criminally underrated
Funny thing is, I wouldn't have watched this movie had I known ahead of time Michael Bay directed it. I liked this film.
This movie had me in tears it was so funny and the rock was the highlight of all of it!
It’s Honestly My Favorite Michael Bay Film!
This movie is hilarious and fun that’s all I needed. The rock is awesome in this
His best role imo. Great film and hilarious.
yup,classic
P&G is Michael Bays masterpiece. I love this not least because it portrays the villains as morons which, if you talk to any serious police, is usually exactly what most villains are. The cinematic depiction of them as criminal masterminds is the big lie.
Hate to tell you but Michael Bay didn't do that...the actual criminals did
Most criminals who _get caught_ are morons. If they were smart they'd have gotten away with it. Survivorship bias in action.
One of the few Michael Bay movies I can digest.
Saw this years ago and loved it. Wish The Rock was still this good in films!!!
This was a great movie easily in the top 10 Michael bay best movies of all time
Not counting Transformers Bay only made about 10 films so far so no wonder this is in his top 10 movies
Its like a dumb version of a Cohen brothers movie

This movie is just so fun. I like Mark whalberg actually trained a lot for his muscles
He had to be juicing on it as well.
Yeah when he said in an interview that he gained 40 lbs of muscle in 6 months I was like yeah sure.
All kinds of steroid gains
@@thatguy1860 He might have gained 40 lbs, but it wasnt all muscle, just 5 lbs of muscle would make you look way bigger.
I like how marky mark blinded that guy back in the day and yelled racial shit at him and how he was a criminal IRL. He's not far off from his character in this movie. and the fact that you like this movie and are too stupid to realize he was juicing... dude... wtf is this world...
Holy crap. What is it with Florida? :p I'll have to check this out! Thanks for the info on the real case!
@Venusaurxl Who cares I'll pass on the hurricanes and crazy people and that it'll be flooding as oceans rise. Sinkholes are another thing that will be occurring more in the future. But people can enjoy it for as long as they can and I wish them well.
Charlamge the god says the craziest people in the world come from florida and the bronx
It's the Floridian water, man! ahahaha
Florida Sunshine laws make it easy as fuck to pull up crime records on any criminal act.
I think a few other states have similar laws, but every state has BATSHIT INSANITY going on daily, Florida just makes no effort to hide it, (hence the name "sunshine" as in "shining a little light makes all the dirty critters scurry away" or something like that lol I butchered it i admit) if anything "Florida-man" stories should be renamed "slow day for news", but then again that would make journalists look bad..... so Florida man goes UNDER THE BUS!!!!) and makes it easy to report on.
A lot of times the crazy Florida man stories are old as hell too, actually check them out because they get recycled all the time too.
too much sun
Seeing the behind the scenes of how hard these guys had to workout is what got me into fitness
Of the Michael Bay films that I've seen (almost all of them...), *Pain and Gain* is the only one, in my opinion, that's actually kind of truly great. Whenever I get into a discussion with someone about "underrated films", I always cite this one.
My read on Bay as a filmmaker is kind of a minority opinion, but I feel that he is actually an incredibly gifted director of comedy. He clearly enjoys allowing his cast to improvise, and this results in what I feel are many very very funny moments in nearly all his films ("Pearl Harbor", a distinctly unfunny film, being the exception, and the only one of his films that I outright dislike, and that's including all the various absurd- and in my opinion hilariously funny- "Transformers" films.) If we're just talking about raw cinematic skill, I sincerely feel he's actually better at directing comedy than action.
Again though, I understand mine is a minority opinion.
I've always loved the bay, I don't care what anyone says 😤😤
This is the only Michael Bay movie in which his style actually fits with the tone of the crazy story, as we can see. I consider it a fun guilty pleasure, a movie that entertains me, makes me laugh a lot, but also makes me want to take a bath after I watch it.
This is the best Michael Bay movie at least to be taken seriously, ironically because it’s more like a comedy... the gonzo nature of the story plus the comedy and the quality of the performers all play towards his strengths
finally the narrator thats bearable to listen to.
Agree. This guy is great but they have someone who’s just a cringe lord and can’t watch anything that guy narrates.
@@johnhuldt Which one?
@@nohozana Who the hell knows, some people just has to find something to bitch and moan about.
I LOVE this movie! Underrated classic!

Fun fact; only Daniel Lugo is on death row. Noel Doorbal death sentence got overturned
Michael Bay: I make movies for Teenage Boys and Girls! Oh dear what a crime
Yeah, minus this and 6 Underground
I thought the film was pretty good tbh. Good action and storyline
The lighthearted tone reflects the reality of these criminals, they didn’t care and weren’t remorseful. That’s how a lot of criminals operate, they just don’t care
I still like this movie. Here's a few things. 1. In the movie you see Doorbal get upset after hearing the sentence. In reality Doorbal really didn't care he just talked to his gf during the trial. Also I know this wasn't mentioned in the movie, however the lawyers for The Sun Gym gang never once asked questions to the witnesses on the stand, or objected to any of the questions by the prosecution. Also Lugo is or was afraid of Doorbal in real life. He also claims Doorbal is a true psychopath/sociopathy. Also Lugo and Doorbal were suppose to get new trials to determine if they get the death penalty.
This is best the Rock performance I’ve ever seen and best Michael Bay film if you ask me
This was the first script Bay ever optioned, way before bad boys or anything else. Took decades to get around to it. Screenwriter was a columnist for the Tribune.
I think it speaks very much for Bay keeping most of the events truthful and only changing and adding a few things to make it movie worthy. When it comes to the nature of the characters, I think Bay willingly decided to potray them as despicable and laughable as possible to show the audience that crime doesn't pay and that you're an idiot for believing so. His sometimes nihilistic approach can be off putting but fits for me here very good, he clearly despises people who try to exploit the system and human decency in their favour. I genuinely think that this movie did a great job bringing over his point and to contradict the usual approach of these kinds of movies by not glorify but by making these awful people the butt of the joke and make them look as ridiculous as possible.
theres NOTHING like real life events to make a killer movie🥰
I don’t care what anyone says this movie is like riding the wildest roller coaster your first time every time
hahahah yes
The Rock nailed it as someone on Coke. The film was so bizarre and unbelievable it was comical.
They should have gotten a Vietnamese man to play Tony shalhoubs character.
Marky mark would have been even more rabid than he was on the movie!
Hahaha you know your history
This is a fun film I can't help but watch every time it's on TV
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I would like to see a closer adaption with a more serious tone though.
I stole this movie from Barnes & Noble & I was actually pretty impressed lol I should’ve bought it
Go return it.

This is one of my favorite movies never gets old
I saw this movie when I was pretty young and I don’t really remember it but I remember it leaving me uneasy for ages
i’m gonna rewatch this gem
This might be my favorite underrated movie. Dwayne Johnson ACTUALLY acts his ass off and Michael Bay makes a structurally competent movie, and while ridiculous (like ALL his films), it's a true FVCKING STORY... Which, this is one of the most UNBELIEVABLE true stories by the way, so bonus points there. It makes The Wolf Of Wall Street look tame.
Took me while to be in the mood for this movie but ended up thinking yeh "pretty good, pretty, pretty, pretty......."

Being a bigger fan of the fuck
I watched it.
It was super random and well shot.
It was hilarious too.
I wonder if people will ever stop expecting based on true events means the movie is an accurate portrait of how things turned out.. In ANY situation of the film maker wanted to tell the story with 100% accuracy he would have made a documentary.. As soon as there is a movie about an event or someone's life, expect changes to be made
wot about party monster
I enjoyed this movie and was surprised it was a Michael Bay film. Its a fun watch. You don't get fun movies made as often now. Just fun
The dye bag scene made the entire thing worth it
I remember seeing this in theaters and having mixed feelings. But now that I know it's somewhat based off a true story I find it more interesting. I didn't think it'd get quite so violent lol
Knowing all of this ... I still think nick cassvettes ( sorry for typo) or joe carnahan should’ve directed this. With nick or Matthew carnahan writing the script. Writers of captain America trilogy and avengers 3&4 were so outta the league with this.
I don't think the point is to make the main characters likeable. I think Michael Bay hates everyone in the movie except Ed Harris
Yeah he is the obvious protagonist. Lugo is the main antagonist.
I enjoyed this film at the time, although looking back on it I'm not really sure why.
This shit was fuckin hilarious, the rock was the best part of the movie. Seeing big ass with a skateboard killed me😂😂😂😂
This is a real film, and it’s based on a real incident? I’d watch it. I love schlock. 👍😁

Damn had no clue it was a true story, thats so cool lol just saw a lil blurb about the rock commenting on his role in this film and looked it up to remember it, great movie
I don’t care about the hate this movie gets, I think it’s pretty dope.
Do you have any other videos about "based on a true story" films. Is there a playlist?
*One of my favorite dark comedy movie*
Now I haven't seen this in a long time but I remember absolutely loving it
It really wasn't right that they vilified the victim and made light of what was, as wacky as it may have been, a horrible tragedy involving real evil. Also, those Sun Gym guys, for steroid abusers, were barely more muscular than the average man, if that. I didn't see anyone that was even in Wahlberg's league, let alone The Rock.
I think this is actually Bay's best movie!!!
This is honestly the best film Michael Bay has made since The Rock and Bad Boys.
This movie changed my life I was in a bad place but seeing it help me make some changes
@No One's Innocent not that dramatic lol I was just unemployed and had a young son .it just inspired me to work harder and think outside the box. Add more postive thinking and make things happen not just be sad or mad
Imagine if the director who made "A walk among tombstones" made this movie instead and highlighted the true horrors of what happened. It's so disgusting that the torture and attempted murder of an innocent man was played for laughs in this movie that portrayed the victim as a villain.
He wasn’t portrayed as a villain, though. Unpleasant, sure, but the Sun Gym Gang are ultimately shown to be much worse.
