Please note that they are able to have such a good price because Kiprun is from Decathlon and this is THE sport shop in France and in more countries in Europe. They don’t spend money too much for commercials and this is sold only in their shops where you can find everywhere 😊
£99 for a carbon plated shoe that actually works is an absolute steal, great video Ben, never considered Kiprun before but I’d give them a go at that price. One caveat, I wouldn’t pay full price as you can get discounted shoes that are way better around £170
I recently ran a marathon in a $100 pair of carbon-plated shoes from Unpause, which is a Thailand company. They were the Halley Lights. (Now on sale for $80). I've never tried any other carbon plated shoes so I can't do a comparison, but these worked great for me. So I can definitely believe that inexpensive carbon-plated shoes can do the job, that in general people don't need to spend exorbitant amounts on shoes to enjoy training and racing.
I got the KD900 (without the X) and they served me well as tempo shoes until I got the Boston 12. Still occasionally use them in track workouts. They will definitely last the 1000km Kiprun claims. Also just did 10 miles on muddy trails with the Kiprun MT3 and for 70€ (with discount) that is one hell of a trail shoe. Kiprun aren't the best shoes out there, but they are still really good and for the price, they are more than worth it.
As a slow runner, I bought my first pair of "proper" running shoes a few months ago and I went for the KD900 Light. They are super light and quite firm and I enjoy them, I've been using them for all my road workouts and have felt just fine for me. Over 200 km later and no visible wear. Then I noticed this carbon plated LD is on discount (100 euros for Eastern Europe so even cheaper) so I went ahead and ordered them two days ago on a whim lol. It's basically only 15 euros more than what I paid for KD900 Light, can't go wrong with that. Might as well treat myself for Christmas.
Sounds great! It’s great to hear you don’t have to fork out hundreds for still some decent training shoes. Kiprun definitely fill that gap in the market that very few others can offer.
We'll see how they fair but if durability compares to other Kiprun shoes, they'll last many km. I noticed some reviews mentioning the shoe cut them on the exterior of the ankle after a few miles because of the hard plastic without padding, however in all of those cases, the people that used them have either said directly or implied that they are heel striking. You seem to not have had this issue but you are midfoot striking which only seems to confirm my observation. But the issue is valid anyway. Which is weird because by comparison my KD900 Light has generous padding for the ankle considering the flimsy weight. So they definitely dropped the ball on this one, having a hard time thinking absolutely no one used heel striking during testing.
Puma velocity at £100 full price and £60 on most websites on discount. Cushioned enough for easy days light enough to do marathon pace long runs. Crazy value
I don't understand why you run on the left side of the road when the Highway Code says that pedestrians should use the right side so that they are facing oncoming traffic which is far safer.
I’m sure I’m not the first one, but I would like to see a video with and @RanToJapan. I’d like to hear both of your thoughts on training: you use a more data approach, he is more focused on running as many kilometers as possible.
Yeah honestly a solid option! Wasn’t expecting huge things due to the price point but pleasantly surprised. Don’t feel I’d be at a disadvantage racing a 5k in these that’s for sure 👍
It's been very gray here in the Netherlands as well. I feel we've barely had any sun at all since you were here for the Amsterdam half (and I got my shoes dirty today too). About your session, how do you decide between jog or easy run recoveries and standing recoveries?
Yeah it’s been horribly grey! Most my lactate threshold sessions have standing recoveries to reduce the over all load of the session whilst still getting 30mins of threshold work. When I’m close to a marathon, float recoveries are much more common as more marathon specific. It depends ultimately on the desired training effect of the session, similar to rest duration :)
I've just got someone to sell me their Barcelona Half Marathon ticket, it would be lovely to see you and some of your followers there 🤗 I'll try to follow your training advice 🙃 (first time running a half, quite scared tbh...)
Keen on the ks900 have some have replaced insoles as were toast after 150 miles. Other than that they are decent and hard wearing. Btw Your lt1 is 3s a k slower than my k pb. 1:30 half marathon here. Maybe more hill sprints needed :-D
Hey Ben, how long did it take you to build up to marathon training distances? I keep getting injured and it’s taking so much longer than I’m wanting :( hurting my soul
I ran my first marathon after about 3.5/4 years of regular running. Most people can run a marathon after a few months of training but if you want to run one fast let’s say, it’s often great to reach your potential first in the shorter races. No rush id say :)
@ thank you that is very helpful info! I have dealt with a few long term injuries in the past 3 years such as muscle imbalance in hips and plantar fasciitis, so haven’t entirely run fully consistently for that amount of time. But do wish I was closer at this point. (I’m 22, I feel so old with these type of injuries😭)
I own both the Kiprun KD 900X LD from the video and the Adios Pro 3 and I would say they are 2 different shoes meant for different types of runs and runners. The Kiprun is strictly a mid to forefoot striker shoe and best for 5k, 10k and maybe half. Adios Pro 3 is more stable, accommodates heel striking and excels at half and full marathons. The foam in the Kiprun is actually softer than the Adios Pro 3, but the thick rubber outsole makes it feel a bit “slappy”. Think leather soled dress shoe with a Pebax midsole. You also need fairly clean mechanics to run in the Kiprun. My dodgy ankles can only go about 10k in them. If you are looking for a long run super shoe, then the Adios Pro 3 @£120 is a better deal. If you want a 5k-10k shoe, then the Kiprun is a bargain as that midsole is bouncy and the outsole will go 700+km.
I think you need to be a bit clearer / upfront right at the start of the video that those shoes were sent to you for review and you didn't purchase them. Great vid otherwise :)
Noted! Just watched the intro back myself and agree, apologies about that. You should have seen a "includes paid promotion graphic" at the start of the video but usually would disclose verbally that these were gifted product. Thanks for keeping me honest.
Decathlon went out of business in Sweden and they don't even ship here now (been like this for a couple of months). A shame really, I do like alot of their gear.
@@julien7705 Yeah, we have a couple that you can find in pretty much any "city". Decathlon only had a few stores in the bigger cities, and the one I've been too was very messy and chaotic. A shame that you can't even shop from the other EU stores and get stuff shipped atm.
Cannot believe how lazy someone is , there was a dog poop bin just next to the bench, 🙄 and you ignored the road sign , reduce speed now !!! great video and congratulations although somewhat belated on your performance at Valencia, 👏
Please run on the right side of the road. That is, on the same side as oncoming traffic, unless on blind corner when you switch. It amazes me how many people get this wrong and run on same side that you drive. You run on otherside so you can see traffic coming and avoid it if required rather than have your back to traffic on your side!
Running close to 20kmph into on coming traffic on the narrow country lanes is a death wish around where I live. Appreciate the concern and general follow that rule but have learnt from experience that’s not always the best option
Not a problem I've ever had. I have never reached such speeds on foot! 😂 In the middle of an interval the last thing you wanna do it have to slow down, so I can see the benefit of running on the left at these times.
Please note that they are able to have such a good price because Kiprun is from Decathlon and this is THE sport shop in France and in more countries in Europe. They don’t spend money too much for commercials and this is sold only in their shops where you can find everywhere 😊
OMG that’s where I grew up! Recognised the bridge instantly…. After 30 years! Great content Ben.
Aha love that, it’s not my session loop :)
Loved the shot of you taking off for the first effort of LT1 work and how it wasn’t edited so we could stay with you. Long time subscriber
Appreciate the feedback, all the credit goes to Liam for keeping up!
Noticed the other day that ZARA (yes, that one) came out with a carbon race shoe. Might be a funny video idea to grab a pair to review

Good mix of workout and shoe review
Great session, I might have to pinch that!
I’ll run the Barcelona half too 😊hope to see you there

I personally find the deviate to be the better option from puma. A little more expensive but much more versatile 👍
Great grip for rubbish weather too on the Pumas

Hi Ben!!! I hope you could try xtep one piece 2.0 or the 361° flame 3.5
Your jacket is from decathlon’s too?
Hi Ben and you pls try the asics magic speed 4 I use them
Im not sure I currently have a place for them in my rotation to justify getting them in but hopefully trying both the Novablast 5 and Nimbus 27 soon!
so your Zone2 is up to 157bpm. That 82% or your Max. Seems very high, where did u get those numbers from?
That’s definitely too high, most probably just a prediction from the watch. My easy run pace is most commonly between 135-45
@@BenIsRunning isnt lt1 the top end of zone 2? so you run your easy runs more or less in zone 1?

Nice review, thanks! Is that the Coros app that you had on your phone??
Thanks Clive, it was yes :)
£89 for the daily shows is a bargain
Crushing it 💪💪💪
Thanks mate
Planning on doing the Comrades in South Africa?
It’s not one that’s at the top of my list but maybe one day!
I have the same espresso machine, do you grind your own?
The sage barista express? Great machine and yes of course, no other way 🤝

I have these (250km+ mileage) but I get blisters after 8k of speed work... which socks do you use?
No blisters myself but a good pair of socks certainly help. Shyu socks are my personal favourite

Why have the coffee segment at the start? Is that not a bit cliche now? Seth DeMoor does it every time and it is so annoying.
