25 years or older is classic but minimum 25 years like a 1996 eclipse gsx is considered classic or 1996 mk4 Supra or even r33 GTR now r34 has few more years to be a classic

I bought my first Evo back in 2011 when i lived in japan. An Evo IV. Was new to the japanese car scene and loved hitting the rings in okinawa watching cars drift. I had these two exact cars on a cheap printer wallpaper for my garage. I own an Evo X now. Pretty cool seeing these again.
Ohh the glory days. Team orange was one of the leading companies and teams back in the day. They also ran an sti with radiator in back and duct in rear door so it stayed cool going sideways. I still love drifting but back then there was more variety in d1gp and formula d. So stoked to see these cars again. Great find guys.
We visited Kumakubo back in 06' and he brought us around k style to see all these cars and showed us around Ebisu and gave us a car for the day to drive with Naoto Suanaga , great times
Such a bittersweet video. I love seeing these cars again. Having watched Team Orange drive them, going "One More Time!" for an hour because going up against each other, it looked like a coordinated ballet. However... Seeing them caked with dust and ot polished up in a museum somewhere is heartbreaking. At least the Signal R34 is in a collector's showroom... Sad story how it got there, but nevertheless.

At the professional level, the whole “what’s a good drift car” debate is pretty antiquated. With enough money, the right driver and the right team, any car can be competitive. Aasbo, who’s in the video, won a championship in a Scion TC and was a top 5 driver in a hatchback, both originally FWD platforms. Are Evos a sensible platform to build drift cars on? Maybe not, but there’s no reason they can’t be competitive at the top level.

All cars have to be extensively modified. Sure, converting to RWD is tough but no single car driving within top 8 at the FD level requires that much more work than the other. They all require an equally insane amount of work and money - they are torn down to the frame and then built back up for a specific purpose. We don’t have to nitpick on whether they spent more money here or hours there, they’re all wildly built beasts in their own right doesn’t matter if it’s a 240, a Hatchback Corolla or a Civic .
@@diamaangueye7939 thats not true, when you have a one off or rare car its much more money and work than something common, yes all teams have certain things that are custom but reducing the difficulty in repair and maintance is massive in racing. if you are talking about the commo build like LS s13 or something almost all parts for that are available easily. not only the individual parts but also the conversion parts. angle kits are made to bolt on, new engine or engine parts can be had at most junkyards or are in stock in parts shops, even stuff down to conversion engine mounts are readily available. when you have a car that isnt even originally RWD, most of the suspension is miss matched or custom, stuff like mounts, manifolds, driveshafts.... all really hard to deal with.or something like a custom rotarty where most people dont even know how to work on them, most parts on the engine are custom let alone all the stuff around the engine. those sort of teams have to fabricate multiple of each parts and keep their own stock of parts, while teams with common cars can just go grab a new part from as shop. like i love e30´s more than e36 yet im not going to use my e30 to drift, it costs a fortune to get good parts, they are a pain to track down and there isnt just new shells everywhere. e36´s are cheap, parts are cheap, parts are available, chassis are available... they are so much cheaper to run while being not far off the same car

The difference here is that any RWD JDM platform has a lot of experience put into it by lots of companies and enthusiasts who fleshed out all the mistakes, errors and weaknesses of those. Going with any new generation car or an entirely new platform is different since you have to bash your head in some cases "alone", trying to custom build or fit parts for these cars, and everything included is not easy to replace. A lot of additional calculations add up time and money required to prep these cars which in return result in many try and error testing. Imitating something is always easier.
Some drifters do intentionally want a front weight bias for drifting because they want less traction to spin the rear tires easy, and since the rear tires are so far from the cg they can straighten the car out easy
I remember team orange! When I was in year 4 (3rd grade is the equivalent I think) my teachers asked us to make powerpoint presentations on anything we liked, so I chose drifting, more specifically team orange mostly so i could watch drift videos in class lol, they had like 4-5 active members/cars at the time too
Its cool to see the team orange ct9a didn't just get disassembled and scattered around. I thought the debut livery was the coolest thing with the hidden white tiger graphic on the back. Definitely one of my favorites from D1.
The 4G63 changed orientation in the Evo 4 when they went from the six bolt to seven bolt crank. Exhaust / turbo was always on the front of the engine, with intake at the rear. The 4B11 went to a rear exhaust / turbo set up.
Its been a while since i saw those machines. Team orange introduced me to drifting all because i loved Subaru nd Evo back then. Thanks for showing me they still alive

I’m rocking with takahiro’s old soarer jzz30. Great car, endless fun. Previous owner import it to shanghai china, and did a very good job maintaining it.
Man, seen that Team Orange S15 been half way stripped is so sad. I loved this car. Basically made me fall in love with the S15 chassis. As for classic would be something like 350hp cars of 90's era, 2010 is very modern, I was building my own cars at that period..
The 8s and 9s 4G63 both had the turbo facing towards the radiator. The 4b11 in the 10 was when they swapped the exhaust towards the firewall. The major difference on the 8 and 9 is the MIVEC in the 9
The Evo 10 4B engine had the exhaust and intake swapped around so the intake manifold would be at the front of the engine bay and the exhaust at the rear closest to the firewall. I believe they did this for weight distribution and efficiency reasons. It makes putting a bigger turbo on them very hard though and they require a lot of heat shrouding at the rear of the engine.
I feel like you didn't give these cars or Team Orange enough credit. They must've done something right, Kuma and Suenaga were both really successful in D1GP with these cars. For their time they were super competitive against the S chassis and the rest. Kumakubo was the series champion in 2006 with his GDB Impreza.
DOPE! I love seeing these old machines. Although, I don't consider these classic. "Classic" to me would about 2004 when Signal was popping over here in the US, NOB Taniguchi was still in his red S15 in Japan.

It's good to see one of them is still running a shame though there is no museum for this cars but at least we can recreate them the best we can in racing games.

Man, the good old D1GP was so much better than today's americanized version. The amount of different cars that were in D1GP etc was so much more fun to watch.
I remember being there in Japan, at Ebisu when those cars were in their prime. Seeing them at Odaiba, different tracks across Japan. Was a treat. Sad to see them just sitting doing nothing. But it's a car that's served it's purpose to them. So it has little to no use. Plus the expense of running it, just isn't worth it.
To tell you the truth, I see these cars all the time but finally made a stand alone video on them lol. My Japan content has them buried in background shots all the time lol!
I miss these old builds, from the JDM Option days. I still have a handfull of those dvd's

I dropped by Kid's Heart in Nagoya when I used to live there. Tezuka's 32 with the 34 front was pretty sweet.

I'm definitely painting or wrapping my Evo 4 that Orange color. I fell in love with that color on the Evo when I seen Kuma driving that Evo 10.

These cars, as well as the GC8 Suenaga had, all ran R33 rear ends, so while the fronts are all different, the rears are all common and share parts.
