    You could literally fight any style at a tournament like this. Karate, muay thai, Taekwondo, doesnt matter, as long as you stick to the rules, which is of course a karate ruleset. So it makes sense that you would use karate or something similar like Taekwondo

    • @SwordTune
      @SwordTune 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I heard you can make up katas at karate tournaments. The performance side of karate is so unregulated that, ironically, it's completely pointless to martial arts.

    • @lucjeb9254
      @lucjeb9254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @@SwordTune well, you could also make up a fighting style in MMA. theres no limitation to what you are allowed to use, only the rules. Like in Karate tournaments your not allowed to make contact with the opponents face for example. so if a Boxer enters a Karate tournament hes screwed. Hes basically only allowed to dodge and throw body shots. The lack of kicking would be his end. Vice versa if a Karate practioner enters a boxing match. Sure they di have strikes, but since kicking is illegal the boxer would make short work. This is why you usually only see Karate fighter in karate tournaments and the same goes for other Martial arts. There are similar ones though. Taekwondo is really similar to karate, which is why you can see taekwondo moves in the All Valley. Crescent kick, Spinning Crescent kick, Tornado kick and a few other moves i could recognize arent used in Karate at all (generaly speaking)

      @@lucjeb9254 yeah exactly. All of the combat sports are related but once you actually create a sport rule set, there are pretty distinct and important differences. I’ve seen plenty of really impressive fighters get absolutely wrecked in their first matches of a new sport.

    • @Vaillle
      @Vaillle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      And everyone goes through stages in their life. This show is about finding balance and it’s so smartly written.
      It also shows it doesn’t necessarily matter where you start in life, but more so how you handle it. You can start out in a rich house that’s poor in personal values and end up as a wreck. Or you can start in a poor apartment with supportive role models and good values that help you succeed at life and ultimately build wealth.
      Good and bad can be found anywhere. And the bad can creep back in when you don’t expect it to, like with Danny not being able to let go of his resentments, or Johnny once he realizes he didn’t teach his students to have honor.
      The show does a great job of illustrating how different people deal with their problems. Some go too far and remain out of balance (Hawk) and others seem to get closer and closer to equilibrium as the show goes on. (Robby/Miguel). But it’s a delicate thing, and we can easily step out of balance with our lives (Danny/Robby).
      This show is wonderfully written and a joy to experience.

    I'm sorry but I kinda disagree about it being Miguel's fault. Yes, he shouldn't have used violence but had Sam bothered to explain the situation about her dad and Cobra Kai to him earlier, none of those things would have happened. I feel Miquel would have been reasonable and could have been patient to meet her family for her sake. But she just started lying and making excuses, causing him to become insecure about their relationship and who Robby was to her.

    • @joshuad3507

      I mean her fault is lying yes but it is more of dumb minor mistakes. She was just worried about her Dad rejecting Miguel from being near her, drama drama drama. Miguel though kind of blew up without even letting her explain and never cooled off even after sobering up.
      She just told dumb lies, but he got irrational and aggresive and then doubled down instead of reflecting.

    The way I saw it is if you plan on fighting with an injury. Expect someone to take advantage of it. He had a choice to back out and he didn’t. Now the extra shoulder kick was unnecessary seeing as Miguel had already caught the foot and could have ended it there. But they wanted to show that the original cobra Kai method was corrupting his students.

    Honestly this one is a real “suspension of reality” moment for me. Miguel did absolutely nothing wrong (during the match, the arm pull was a jerk move). If your opponent is visibly favoring an injury it completely makes sense to go after it. This is a combat sport. It’s the job of the *ref* to stop the fight if someone is too injured to defend themselves. Alternatively it’s the job of the injured fighter’s coach to pull them out. A lot of fighters are going to say “no let me keep going” but that doesn’t mean the coach should let them.

    They didn't stop the fight in the tournament because yes what Miguel did was messed up, it was a legal move that is why he didn't lose a point when he hit Robbie shoulder during the fight. Daniel and Johnny should have stop the fight there was no reason for Robbie to fight after Hawk hurt his shoulder.

    • @whimsofmim
      @whimsofmim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. It was on the adults to be reasonable. Johnny should have forfeited the match (giving Robbie the win) as a lesson to his dojo that winning via fighting dirty is not winning at all. If he didn't forfeit, Daniel should have thrown in the towel to avoid further injury to Robbie, and to teach Robbie that there are more important things than winning (like your health and well being).
      Wouldn't have made for good drama and all of next season's conflicts though, so we get what we got.

      @@InfamousTerry4 Was this a fight or a karate tournament? So many ppl here keep talking about boxers cracking ribs, or acting like this is a street fight so it was fine for Miguel to exploit his opponent's weakness. It's children competing in a tournament. Sportsmanship still has a place at this level of competition. Johnny understands first hand the problems with teaching young people that the ends justify the means.

    Maybe not honorable but if your opponent has a weakness then you go for it. And Robby went in with his messed up shoulder. So it's good IMO.

      At this level of competition (high school kids), coaches and sensei's are still trying to teach their pupils sportsmanship. This isn't pro-level sports. You don't want to permanently injure or maim other people just to win.
      Even most professional athletes don't want to permanently harm their opponents. There are many examples in pro sports, even UFC, of pro athletes showing restraint and care for their opponents, trying to avoid exploiting the weaknesses that could permanently injure that person. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are rare and generally make the offending athlete out to be the bad guy.
      It's obvious to me how many of you have probably never played organized sports because so many of you think winning at any cost is all that matters and you don't grasp how badly that kind of lesson messed up Johnny's life (and how he is trying to avoid making the same mistake with Miguel and his other students)....

    Capoeira is not a form of Karate. It is a brazilian fighting style that originated during the slavery era. The slaves would teach themselves how to fight in a manner that their captors wouldn´t know they were practicing, because they told their "Owners" that they were just dancing. Capoeira is big in Brazil, and is even bigger in black communities, it´s their pride and heritage. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me ( not the slavery of course)

    • @controlman7490
      @controlman7490 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yea, and the fighting style it's self orginated from Angola since a lot of the slaves were former warriors.

      Yoooo that's an actual cool story! Of how this powerful martial arts was made, like i really thought it was made to turn dancing into even more of an artform i didn't know it was when the slave era! Like yooo i know karate had a cool backstory with it's originators, but didn't know Capoeira that has this chill nice style to it had a history in that era times! I loved!!! Stories about slaves (ik that sounds weird) stories about like Abraham, martin luther, like those stories we're great!!! But a story about martial arts AND slaves using theit free time to make a fighting style is even crazier!

    Miguel was smart for attacking Robbie's shoulder. He saw a weakness and exploded it. If a boxer breaks a guy's ribs, he doesn't stop attacking the ribs.

    • @whimsofmim
      @whimsofmim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These were kids competing in a youth karate tournament, not professional boxers. Also, Robbie's injury came from Hawk's cheap shot, and Miguel didn't just exploit it, he showed bad sportmanship by pulling Robbie's arm when Robbie offered him a hand up.
      Kreese taught Johnny and the original Cobra Kai to be "smart," but Johnny has discovered that it isn't really smart to rely on cheapshots and shortcuts to win. He has learned first hand it was a bad lesson to teach young people and he understands now that Miguel (and his students) deserve better than the poison Kreese was selling.
      Oh, and if you haven't seen, there are examples of UFC fighters, boxers, and other pro athletes who actually do things to protect their opponents because they understand that sometimes possibly maiming or seriously injuring their opponent isn't worth it if that's the only way to win.
      Just YT search "fighters taps to save opponent" or "top 9 fighters who didn't want to hit their opponents anymore" for just two of many examples.
