      you are one of the few youtubers that have inspired me to set up a woodshop of my own and have given me the inspiration to try and bring back woodshop at my high school, but it is pretty difficult funding everything since I am 14. If you knew any projects thy sell well please let me know:)

      +Anthony Strazhnikov I'm a fellow 15 year old and I love wood work, the only problem is for the GCSE course I'm doing you have to use plastic and metal. hey ho, best of luck with your plan! :)

    I have not been watching you for long. After one video I became a subscriber. Your work is second to none. The inlay was awesome. I liked how you drilled some in. Let them dry and then drilled more in overlapping them. It is definitely gonna remind some kid of bubbles. Truly kicks sir.
    All the videos I have watched you had pretty chill music playing. I was like huh no music? Then for a split second some played n i was like oh there it is. Then as quick as it played it went away lol.
    Plus all the other videos ya never spoke. Then at the end you did. I said holyshit he talks and no music lol. Your shop is awesome all your tools are layed out so you can jump from tool to tool 1 2 3 instead of all over the place like other shops. You can tell you take great pride in everything ya do. Rightfully so!

    your woodworking skills are fantastic and your work shop is a woodworker’s dream. I do have a question, what is the need for precision milling 1:10, if you are going to sculpt a curve 2:35 in the work piece?
    I hope to see a lot more of your work in the future.

      @MauriceBlok  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lenny F The two sides (that hold the rope) are then parallel to the bottom and have an even length. Alternatively it could have done on the bandsaw but when being at the jointer/ planer... why not. Thanks!

      +w kofooed Also, never have seen the band saw before, it says "Man Ko"?. What company is this?
      Thanks again.

    • @MauriceBlok
      @MauriceBlok  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +w kofooed Accumulated the hand held tools over the years. I purchased more when I could/ needed while building our house and workshop. When the workshop had completed I purchased the jointer/planer, tablesaw/smoulder and extractor. (all those stationary machines are second hand, made in 2010 that I bought from a woodworker that upgraded his machines. This was in 2012) When furnishing our house and doing some work for friends and family, people notified/ became interested in my furnitures/ designs. Though I am a self taught woodworker I then started a woodworking business.

    • @MauriceBlok
      @MauriceBlok  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +w kofooed It is a saw that was manufactured in Finland by Man-Ko in the city of Lahti. I believe Man-Ko existed up until somewhere in the eighties. My bandsaw was made in 1965 and I purchased it off of a local school as they had to (had to!) upgrade due to some EU regulations that are unclear to me. It has an electronic brake from which I know EU requires it to have so that can't be it... It obviously wasn't there in 1965 but must have been installed during the late 90's or early 2000's. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe saws nowadays have to have a full closure blade guard?? Anyways I paid 150€ for that saw and am happy as ever with it!

  • @privatear2001
    @privatear2001 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, Maurice! Best looking tree swing I've ever seen! I like well-thought out design when it comes to anything people use all the time. Most swings are straight... don't fit the bottom correctly. So this one is very nice. I like things that take into account how the human body conforms to them, like the Eames Lounge Chair and the Saarinen tulip Chairs. The shape of the swing puts me in mine of the latter.
    I was wondering if you could give me the general rough cut dimensions of the block of wood you eventually used. It looks to be almost three inches thick by maybe 20" wide? I want to make one something like it without the inlays (though that would be nice, as well). I only have hand power tools to work with but arranged properly, with clamps and all, that may be enough. White oak? And in general, when you're building stuff like this with inlays, how deep did you drill the holes? Maybe 1/2"? How thick did the remaining wood turn out to be - 5/4" maybe? I want to build one for a friend for her birthday. She's petite, but I still like to build it strong. Anyway, any help/further information you could render would be greatly appreciated. I stand envious of your shop and your skills! All the best, Bud!

      +Maurice Blok I'd really appreciate it. It's a great looking swing. I might like to make one like it for a friend who wants one. I'm thinking you used 3 or 4 inch thick stock here as it looks like the swing is almost 2" thick. Its certainly more than 1"... Please send me some dimensions when you get time. Appreciate it! All the best!
