      They never knew how to play. 66 world cup was fixed and parked the bus after 2 minutes against Italy 🇮🇹 3 years ago and were in the easy half of the draw 3 years ago and this year.

    Bobby Charlton versus Mexico in the World Cup 1966 is very very special. Interesting that modern commentators only go back about 30 years at best. Of those shown the John Barnes goal against Brazil is by far and away the best.

      It's worth remembering that immediately before that goal, Scotland has a penalty saved. Seaman parried the ball away and gathered safely from the resulting corner kick. He then threw ball to G Neville, and I think he passed it on to Gazza. The rest is history...

    I am 56 and I have never witnessed an Englishman lifting a major trophy. I cant help thinking that videos of englands greatest goals is going to be the best achievements for the rest my life. Considering the great players we have had since england won in 66, is a sad fact, that England have always failed and always lacked that something special to be a great winning side, like those boys of 66.

    Gazza’s technical ability was wow!
    That Owen goal was world class Phenomenal!
    Joe Cole’s strike and positioning were unbelievable!
    And Beckham was just doing what he does, but that John Barnes unstoppable run with all that dribbling through eight players has to easily be the number 1 goal here. #johnbarnes #

    England top goals surely have to be more than just a single shot from distance, as in a free kick. The build up is central and for that, Bobby Charlton v Mexico must be number one.

    Beckham's free kick was decent but if it is mainly in there for its significance, then surely Geoff Hurst's third in 1966 has to top it.

    David Platt’s goal, yes it was something special.
    It’s hard to come with a top 5 list of course, and there is no Bobby Charlton goal on here, so many to pick from. Perhaps you are too young to have seen them.

    Cole - yes. A sumptuous strike from a player we never saw the best of in an England shirt.
    Beckham - no. He’d been lining those free kicks up all the second half without success - and why didn’t the goalie try to save it?
    Owen - yes. Truly sensational goal at a World Cup and wasn’t he still only eighteen?
    Barnes - no. Looks great but was in a friendly. Were Brazil bothered?
    Gazza - yes. Without a doubt, a genuinely great goal. Technique, pace, guts, flamboyance, cool finish. A violent, beautiful goal.

    David Platt's goal definitevely belongs someplace up there, probably at #1. I remember a commentary at the time that said the goal was so perfectly executed that Belgium's defense hadn't even made anything wrong.
