@@sblade46 Listen to the korean stuff which Blizzard uses in WoW, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. That generic garbage from today is not compareable with this type of masterpiece. I know! Malcolm Robinson has done some phenomenal modern orchestral updates of 90's video game tracks on his channel. He has a good ear and a soft touch.
Man... I haven't played this game since 96', and its amazing how much bolder and refined this is, yet it still hits as if this is how I heard it back then. Amazing work. Glad to find your channel.
Isn't he, though? I wish he could do what he does for all the games of my childhood. His arrangements sound like they did in my head, I just never knew it until I heard it out loud.
For me, the Warcraft 2 music beats the music in the rest of the Warcraft franchise. IMO, starting on Warcraft 3 music got more "Lord of the Rings-like", which certainly isn't bad, but I like the War2 style better.
Great choice to cover! Putting it next to the original you really notice the difference in translating it to high-end libraries. When the original is such a good composition and they used the tech they had at the time, and then someone like Malcolm comes along and works his magic with modern orchestral libraries, it's just awesome. He fully keeps the spirit of the original while organically enhancing it. Great choice to add heavy choir to the piece. Makes it even more epic. You've made it punchier with even more bite in all the right areas. Another solid addition to the Malcolm Robinson body of work!
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic It's a PS2 game though Malcolm. Is there really much of an update you can do with a newer system musical composition already using pretty high-end libraries? Wouldn't it sound almost exactly like the original? I think where you shine most is when you take a strong composition from the 90's (SNES, low-end PC/PS1) or from a newer portable system like GBA and update it with your modern libraries, while faithfully keeping the spirit of the original like you do so well.
When I saw under the description, Arrangement: Malcolm Robinson, my brain suddenly went "Huh, where do I recognize that name from..?" This is why I should *never* wake up for work at 5 am. Ever.
This is very well done but I feel the harpsichord needs to be more punchy! The Orcs are all about Harpsichords in the originals and I feel they're a bit too recessed in this cover. =)
It's unlikely that I'll cover music from any other classic PC games, but I'll give the HoMM II and III soundtracks a listen anyway. I have a vague memory of playing them back in the day.
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic they're still one of my favorite turn based games. They are a bit dated now though. But I remember the music for heroes 2 being in particular being really excellent.
I loved the vibe of the original WC1 and WC2 setting Warcraft 3 and WoW changed it into something that doesn't even resemble what came before it, sadly, no matter how much they throw in some references here and there. The original Orcs vs Humans (and later Ogres/Trolls/Dwarves/Elves) stuff just felt really good. Humans weren't pussy bitches, and the Orcs weren't "noble savages" - they were just vicious and nasty.
I like both Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3, but they definitely feel like different timelines. (Well, since they basically are.) Every now and then, I wonder what Warcraft would have been like if it had continued properly off of 2 instead of the retcons in 3...
@@gyppygirl2021 I agree I did like 3 and the characters introduced and the retains weren’t significant It wasn’t until TBC that they got sloppy Turning the Draenei into blue eredar because they wanted a prettier race than the original ugly Draenei How cool would the Draenei have been if they followed the original design instead of the goofy crystal spaceship stuff?
Thanks! I'm not sure yet, but I'll probably do the tracks in chronological order. That would make my next WC2 upload either the intro theme, Human 2 or Orc 2. It could be a very long time before I get to Orc 5.
Hey mate, love your Orchestral Remixes, especially of older snes/gba games. Could you be so kind and do Orchestrals of the Tactics Ogre 'Knight of Lodis' soundtrack? It's a great OST that lacks quality arrangement love.
The original version of the soundtrack is all midi. It's available online. It's the perfect source material for arrangements since you can convert it to a sheet. It's harder to try and do it from ear like the other soundtrack Glenn Stafford did around this time. His Justice League Task Force Ost, has a similar warcraft sounding track for Batman but I doubt anyone is going to be arranging that one anytime soon.
If you don't mind divulging secrets, are you using string samples or is someone actually playing them? You don't have to answer, but if you're using samples, I'm wondering how they sound so authentic lol.
I made this cover entirely with sample libraries. I listed all the libraries I used at the bottom of the video description. As for the strings specifically, I used samples from six different libraries. In my opinion, there's no perfect string library. The key to making strings sound good is knowing when to use which instruments from which libraries, and knowing how to combine or tweak these libraries using mic positions, reverb levels and CC dynamics to get the exact sound you want. It's also important to know the flaws in each library so that you can work around them. I hope this helps!
If you're listening to this, I have good news for you. Your soundcard works perfectly.
made me drop a nostalgic tear
And with British accent
That's awesome man... one of the best game sound tracks out there. Maybe only beaten by some of the Japanese stuff.
