Back when I ripped my CD years ago, I needed titles for all of these songs in my iTunes - for some reason, this one had (and still has) the title "Swamps of Sorrowwwww".
Warcraft II will always have special place in my heart, because it was the very first RTS game I ever played... altough I loved Warcraft III even more (my favorite game of all time!) But Warcraft II really has the best soundtrack ever in RTS genre! This brings back so many memories and it just makes me wanna play Warcraft II once again =)
Wouldn't say so. This is more like a theme fit for observing the regular hustle of an Orc war camp. Very everyday orcish sort of vibe. This would fit a lore video about the Orcs as background.

Blizzard used to say "You want to be the bad guy? Here you go! Now go kill those humans!" way better than "WE WERE THE GOOD GUYS ALL ALONG AND MISUNDERSTOOD"
Well they were both the bad guys and misunderstood, Blizzard fucked with the lore. If you read the old lore and clicked on the Orcish units, they are more like a warmongering Barbarian tribe that used evil magic than consciously evil. Their gods and leaders were evil or at least power hungry. They were too primitive to really be evil conceptually, the average Orc was doing what he believed was right. Not to say they were crying tear Indians in tune with nature like they were later portrayed, but their society didn't really have a philosophical concept of good and evil but right and wrong and they adhered to that. I wish Blizzard stayed with that conception of them, it would have made them interesting in Warcraft 3. They'd have reason to be hostile to the Humans and Night Elves while still forming pragmatic alliances with them like they did with Alterac.

Warcraft 2 Battle net edition music tracks are .wav (converted by blizz), not midis and this one is from the BNE imo, it sounds the same. For some reason (which I don't know), this one is 1min 19s longer than original. It's same til 2:17, after that it just loops the track second time.

I lost my old CD of War2 so I downloaded an abandonware copy. IT HAD NO MUSIC. Oh shit, that wasn't going to do. So I download War2Combat. STILL NO MUSIC. FINALLY found a copy of Battle.Net full edition from a link in a youtube video that had music. Now I can play.... and don't even have to mess with DosBox

Harpsichord layering in all the orc tracks is some of my favorite music and one of my biggest influences in game audio! Love these tracks.
Thats not a harpsichord it's a xylophone made from the bones of peasants.

They were Warlocks. A more timid version of the spell used by the old Horde's Warlocks to become Death Knights is essentially Soulstone.

they were always that way, the orcs shown during wc 1 and 2 were the ones that drank demon blood in their pact with the burning legion.
