(English see below) Die Chiemseebahn (Spurweite 1000 mm) fährt über 1,91 km vom Hafen in Prien - Stock zum Bahnhof Prien. Dort besteht Anschluss zur Deutschen Bahn.
König Ludwig II starb 1886. Sein Nachfolger Prinzregent Luitpold ließ die Bauarbeiten am Schloss Herrenchiemsee auf der Herreninsel einstellen und gab den Prachtbau nach 8 Jahren Bauzeit für die Öffentlichkeit frei.
Dadurch setzte ein Besucherstrom ein und man baute 1887 die Chiemseebahn. Die Bahn steht seit 1980 unter Denkmalschutz. Die Dampflok ist eine Dampfstraßenbahn (Baujahr 1887) und fährt derzeit nur an Wochenenden. Werktags fährt eine Diesellok. Betrieb ist von Ende Mai bis Ende September.

This caused a stream of visitors and the Chiemseebahn was built in 1887. The railway has been a listed building since 1980. The steam locomotive is a steam tram (built in 1887) and currently only runs on weekends. A diesel locomotive runs on weekdays. Operation is from the end of May to the end of September.

Lovely presentation as always. It brought back happy memories of one of my first holidays with my wife in the 1980s. Unfortunately the steam driver wasn't there all week so we had to make do with the diesel tram engine!
