- Feel a warm welcome (back) here.
This time I want to show you my interpretation of a Tanuki Bonsai.
Tanuki" refers to a technique where a living tree is attached onto a piece of deadwood to create the illusion of an ancient, weathered tree. This method is sometimes known as "Phoenix Graft."
The term "Tanuki" comes from Japanese folklore, where a tanuki (a raccoon dog) is a mythical creature known for its ability to shape-shift and create illusions. In the context of bonsai, the technique involves carefully attaching a young, flexible tree to a piece of deadwood, often a branch or trunk from a tree that has naturally died. Over time, the living tree grows and wraps around the deadwood, creating a seamless and natural-looking integration.
Please bare in mind, that these videos are fully just for entertain you all! I am pretty sure that there is a lot more informed and educated people out there who would know much more than me about this subject ;)
Kind regards

Another fantastic work - awesome - I love your videos - thanks for showing
Thanks a lot Marc!
Nice bonsai. Nice garden. Nice english pronunciation.
The final composition is stunning. That stuff you put on the deadwood to make it white does really give it a cool effect. The addition of the river makes it truly magical! By the way, the deadwood at the base kinda looks like a dragon skull...or some other creature.. it inspires the imagination!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! ☺
Absolutely awesome, great work as usual
Thanks a lot for the kind words! ☺
Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. However, that is a thin layer of concrete on a base that's very soft a plyable. Very soon it will start to crack

Wow wow wow, that is bonsai on steroids, it not just bonsai it is a living instillation with individual elements coming together to create the whole amazing scene. Thank you for letting us watch you create it, just one question, How the heck did you move it to its final position ? It must have a weighed a ton.
Thanks Joe! My Wife helped me. Not that bad though 🤣
Amazing
Wow, what a composition. You not only created a Tanuki, you made a pot and a stand for it as well and they look amazing. I absolutely love the use of the rusty steel. And you also added a river that goes along with it. This is really special.
I like the deadwood you used, it really has a lot of character. How did you attach the trees to it? Also: Did you use wood hardener on the deadwood to keep it from rotting away?
Thanks a lot for the kind words! ☺ A have attched with big screws in like 4-5 points on each deadwood, and did not used any hardener as they are juniper deadwood, they are hard enough 😉
Another beautiful creation and a joy to watch do you just use a cement and water mix without any aggregate
Thanks a lot for the kind words! ☺just cement and water
👍👌
I always enjoy your videos! I need some advice! I have tried for 4 years to grow a dawn redwood from seed and failed every time. I live in Canada and no one sells this tree anywhere. How on earth do I successfully grow them from seed?
Kim🍁🇨🇦
Hey Kim. So i guess you collecting the seeds in the fall season, also they benefit from stratification, so i will just leave them outside as I do for the whole winter. We put ours in the greenhouse.
We just got a greenhouse this summer so I can do that now. When do you start them?
@@KimberlyRichardson-j3k Around November end of it, depends on the weather. But with a greenhouse you having better chances this time. Keep me updated how do they do.
Amazing. It is useless to say more.
Thanks a lot!
