    I worked nights for 12 years. Some things that helped. Ear plugs, eye mask and black out windows. For the windows I actually used black construction bags, and let me tell you, it was like sleeping in a cave. No light came through. Best of luck and I pray that you don’t have those crazy 24 hour shifts.

    I work nights in the hospital laboratory. I'm starting to love it (minus the difficulty with my social life). Less people, less drama, and sometimes it's so nuts you cant be tired! The shift goes faster.

    As a physician who flips days/nights in a trauma center every few days, I empathize with you! Stay hydrated and ear plugs during the day;

    This should be an hourly/overtime role. I wouldn't have the physical capability to handle consecutive sleepless nights anymore. It's pretty gruesome to your body as you age. Plus you get sick and weaker easier.

    I love night duty as a midwife ❤. There’s something about the hospital not being as hectic (although it can get wild too). Lots of great night shifts with my co workers over the years ♥️

    Hello Dr. Southard! Thank you so much for all you do! I'm a premed in my second semester of college and have been so discouraged by those around me to pursue medicine. You've shown that time and time again perseverance is key. I loved walking through your exam questions (even though I don't understand everything). Keep up the great work!

    as an MLS, to answer the bacteria question anything that is over 100,000 CFUs would need treatment. the reason why it wouldnt be lactobacillus (since it was also 100,000 CFUs) is that its normal flora of the vagina so it wouldnt cause the uti

      also to add, if u see multiple different bacteria then the specimen is most likely contaminated and they'll probably call for another collection if needed

    I’m an NP student. Of course, NP’s get so much heat from physicians and PA’s. However, I love that our knowledge base is truly the same. Seeing the questions and being able to answer them correctly and knowing the explanation before you even show it. I know I deserve to be here with all of you other smart peoples

    All those nightshifts in a row is crazyyyy and Literally illegal where I'm from. DAMN does the US system need to learn about healthy work-life balance🙈 Rachel you are so strong for pushing through and staying focused on your goal🙌✨️ I would not be able to do it, and think it shouldn't be allowed anywhere... but that's a different discussion. Love your video's, really enjoy following your journey will all the ups, downs and everything in between❤

    As a midwife, I shift between day, evening and night shifts, all in one week, and let me tell you, it’s HARD. I actually like working night shifts, I just hate how hard the transitioning back and forth is.
    Best of luck to you!

    I spontaneously decided to drive from Dallas, TX to San Diego this week cause I’ve never been to California & wanted to see the Pacific Ocean. It’s beautiful out here for sure (although EXPENSIVE!) Also, lots of homeless people in downtown SD, more than I’ve ever seen in Dallas or Orlando where I used to live. I almost want to stay, but I just can’t afford it. 🥲 Drivers go too fast here anyway…😏

    I’m a MA at a dermatology clinic and we have a lot of people who struggle with dry skin. One easy, but big game changer that my doctor always recommends is moisturizing right after getting out of the shower before you dry off. Turn off the water, wipe any excess water off with your hands, then put a thicker moisturizer (typically ones in a jar are better for this) then pat dry with a towel. It helps the skin absorb the moisturizer. It’s been a game changer since I’ve started implementing it. You can always put on another round of moisturizer later, but doing this first helps throughout the day. Also sleeping with a humidifier in the room is a great way to help your skin.

    Have you tried using baby shampoo to do lid washes? I have MGD and my optometrist and ophthalmologist recommended I use it to help with the dry eye. It is amazing at removing makeup and has been a game changer for me. Honestly I started using it on my entire face and it works so well.
    That test answer about the ileus is just annoying. I was continually getting obstructions after my abdominal surgery and my surgeon was so arrogant and said that nothing could be wrong because he would have noticed in surgery. I finally ended up in the hospital for a five day stay because he kept telling me to eat fiber. The fact that answer said a perforation was unlikely because the surgery went well is just stupid. I also experienced a perforation that was supposedly unlikely. Got to lay in a hospital bed begging for help for a day and a half. I could just hear my arrogant doctors telling me how unlikely both the perforation was and the ileus.

    Hi Rachel, I'm curious about TrueLearn. Are these question banks pre-made/preset for you based on what year in residency you are? Similarly, if you used TrueLearn (or another question bank program), do the questions get pre-selected based on what year of med school you are in? Thanks!
