    Very tasty but for the name. 'Greasy spoons' sell it under the euphonious name of cream fish, just as they like to call shark lemon fish. Kiwis traditionally went for the 'big three' of snapper, groper and terakihi with forays into blue nose, gurnard and flounders, so that anything with an unfamiliar name like stargazer or elephant fish, perfectly eatable, are over-looked!

    I used to catch a heap of jackets on the NSW south coast. Best rig is a couple of long shank hooks and a couple of small split shot. I skin them then slow fry the whole fish in butter. The long shanks is because they will bite your line off if you get any bait juice on it.Cheers Ron.

      I'll hafta try this rig out. Cheers mate

    Love Matapaua, we go spearfishing around there a fair bit.. good little shore dive. The opposite side is known to hold good Kingfish too. Devils point and around... Keep up with the cool content bro, been a long time watcher.

      Not to mention we are leatherjacket connoisseurs ourselves, have been told each one has an individual pattern.

    My guess is the unidentified animal you found is a chiton (pronounced 'kai ton") There are about 50 species in NZ waters. They inhabit shoreline in similar places to the limpets that you mentioned. While most have leathery "shells" with "plates", that one may be a "butterfly chiton" although I'm not certain. Someone more erudite than me may well know. Enjoyable vid once again....keep them coming. Cheers

    • @MuddyFeet
      @MuddyFeet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes a chaiton that's what it'll be it was very similar to the common armored looking chaiton but he had super cool spikes on his back. Thankyou for your comment mate appreciated

    Good fun cheers for making videos. Do you ever catch Parore, we call them luderick or blackfish here in Australia, we catch them using floats and the green cabbage weed that grows on the rocks. They are mad fun to catch and I reckon they taste good on the chew.

    • @MuddyFeet
      @MuddyFeet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I occasionally catch them in my mullet net or my flounder net but I usually let them go. They'd be a great fight on light gear

    Ju/Ryan Hampton aqui no litoral sul, onde estamos este peixe chamamos de Porquinho. Nos quiosques de beira de praia são servidos em porções fritos e acompanhados com caipirinha e cerveja. E você já fez caipirinha pro Ryan? Beijos eu e Gra.
