Reminds me of a time my mate was using my wife's set up and the same thing happened, only difference was that the horse of a kahawai that took the rod swam past another fisherman's line just up from us and got tangled and i ended up diving in and following the line to the rod that was wedged in some rocks about 5mtrs deep. It's our best fishing story ha

My main question is do you ever take your fans fishing land based I’ve been watching your videos a awhile and woudl love to go for a fish with you sometime I only make it to the coromandel everts month or 2
One thing I’ve done that may help you in this situation and not let it happen again I modified 2 icky straps and I put a caribiner clip on either end I’d attach one to the rod spike and the other to the reel so if anything happens your shit don’t go in the drink
This happened to me at kawakawa bay turned around for a second turned bak my rod was taking off in the water lucky it got caught up on some rocks grabbed it pulled back an landed my biggest snapper to date
