This has been one of the highest levels ever reached by humankind. Playing Song of the Ancients at the Olympics will not only forever be a great achievement for the whole NieR team and for us gamers and NieR fans, but also a milestone in the history of this specific song. Not only a melody carrying the sadness, fights, hopes and dreams of a race that has, well, gone exctinct, but also a fully-fledged part of humanity’s lore on this planet, having become part of an official Olympics opening performance.
@@Axel69328yes correct, but the song itself acquires a new meaning through the game, becoming the leitmotif of our cheerful days at the village, and later of the not so cheerful anymore days as well, eventually becoming a song carrying Devola and Popola’s hopes of saving humanity, and lastly the song of their and our despair in having to kill each other. In Automata it becomes a song of atonement for someone else’s sins, ultimately referring to Christ’s sacrifice to atone for humanity’s sins, but the difference here is that there is no savior and no saved: humanity is already extinct and the life of two innocent androids will never be enough to change the future… nor the past.
Fangirling does not even begin to describe the reaction I had when I heard this in the background while on my phone. I screamed at the top of my lungs and I have NO REGRETS.
I think it's perfectly fitting for such event, because the "ancient" language is universal, every nation in the world hears it's the same, so it's only uniting people, Yoko Taro san is a genius indeed
Stop? stop? Now you wanna stop? You think you have the luxury to stop? You cut down my sister like a goddamn animal and now you want to STOP? No one STOPS. It's way too late to STOP! NO ONE.....STOOOOOOOOPPPPPSSSS!!!!!
Yoko Taro would find a way to make it canon. Hell! He’d incorporate into a spin-off game franchise that was necessary to watch to get the final ending, lol
This is batshit, the change in the score really feels like 'Glory To a Country' instead of a tragedy, imagine exiting a dark hallway, only with the inner stadium lights shining the end of your path, and as you got out you hear cheering and the song's at the 'Otrajain Aforenje Kurasol"
dang, wish I had played nier earlier. I've only just played the automata and replicant this year and would've loved to have recognized this song while watching back then.
I remember feeling really shocked hearing this for the first time, my parents and I were very enchanted listening to it as the athletes poured in. It, was kind of inspiring in a way. After the terrible covid year we still had the Olympics to look forward to. It gives me a little bit of hope.
"Stop-a? Stop-a?! You want a-me to stop-a?! You cut-a down my brother like an animal and you tell a-me to stop-a?! No-one stops-a! It's a-way too late to stop-a! No-one stops-a!!"
Well.... I think they were going to say that be ready world gonna end . But changed mind and thought: it would be to Crule. Lets give theme signal by some not too papular game sound track
They should have played Emil's song, so in 200 years when they watch this they think we sacrificed the athletes to remove covid jokes aside, Kaine would have fit better as is more "hope" song.. but song of the anciets is just too great
It could be just the camera's mics recording, but it sounds the stage sound wasn't setup correctly. I know they chose this song and it's version because of its drums for the African countries. However it's lacking in bass and undertones especially the bell. All you could really hear is the singing and a basic rhythm of the drums. Singing also sounds live, but it doesn't really sound like two people or rather it's just not distinct enough. Overall sound stage setup doesn't do it justice.
@@GuiltyDoc It's the addendum version sung by Emi Evans and J'Nique Nicole, it sounds like it lacks something tho. Maybe it's just because of all the noise apart from the song, but that's the version. n_n
how ironic, a song from a game which starts due to a virus, played during the peak of a virus
i love it
You’re… gonna need to play Replicant.
I’m not explaining why, just do it.
(Unless you count magic cancer as a virus. In which case ignore this.)
@@flowerfaerie8931 I'm pretty sure they were referring to White Chlorination Syndrome as a virus because it's infectious.
@@flowerfaerie8931it spread like a virus, so yeah I think they were referring to that
@@flowerfaerie8931 yeah i was about to say the same thing lol, song of the ancients has nothing to do with the logic virus in nier automata.

I wish they somehow did the olympics at a time where they could have crowds because this song would’ve blessed their ears

What i love the most is that they played the redition closer to the orginal neir.

Yes, but ancient history. It was the year 2020 after all.
