One thing that a lot of people either forget to do or just have an oversight or basically don't even know about is calibrating the probe it self. Now i'm not quite sure if X-Rite has that option, but this process is absolutely imperative. The probe is essentially telling the monitor what colours to display and to what degree, and if the probe itself isn not calibrated to read properly than you're introducing a pothole in your entire calibration workflow. Now that said, this method is essentially very professional and is done by professional calibrators using pro probes such as the Klein K10-A for example and using Spectracal Calman as your software.
120cd/m2 is too bright any prints will be too dark. My i1studeo (it reads my ambient light) telling me to set for my ambient light to 85cd/m2 as it has done on almost every other screen I have calibrated for friends. I have two monitors and use the i1Studeo software that X-Rite supply Win 10 with Radeon graphics driver never had any issues
hi Stewart, great video with excellent pointers on how to fix it when it goes wrong (notice i did say 'when and not if'). Keep 'em coming and looking forward (as always) to the next lot you mentioned.
Thanks Stewart for this video. Did you set the display( on benq monitor) to Adobe RGB when calibrated or was it sRGB ? I did set to Adobe RGB and tried all the tips given in the video and passed!
I think I may have got the club hammer out and I'm only up to 17 mins into your post! You must have the patience of a saint..... I'll continue watching to see what happens.......
A quite good realistic video. The top sliding cover, on the 270C needs to be twisted off to fit the i1 through the slot. I have even had the monitor position 1 or 2 mixed up on Mac. So I expect the occasional hiccup. After restarting I was able to have the right monitor calibrated after. All the other information is correct.
How are you getting on with these monitors? Are the panels still holding up? I know there have been a lot of issues with BenQ monitors after about 3 years.
Quick tip. The problem I had with this software was that even if windows display properties and Nvidia control panel showed display 1 and 2 correctly, the calibration was still crossed over. Like you said, I had the sensor on display 1 and it was changing colors on display 2. This is because if you go to advanced display options, to color management, displays 1 and 2 were still reversed (you'll see it when you press identify monitors). There is a quick fix, without reinstalling drivers and so on. Turn off computer, remove cable from display 2 and turn it on again. Then the remaining display will be reassigned as display 1 everywhere. Then while still on, attach cable to display 2. After that it all works fine.
Hey Stewart, I recently purchased the SW270C. I noticed they updated the software since the release of your video. Have you had the chance to see if the latest software addresses your issues?
I have a Benq Sw271 together with two cheapo monitors for my panels and I have concluded Benq does not play well when it is not the only monitor in a system. for instance, in your example did you connect both monitors USB-upstream to the desktop?
Need your suggestion. Want to buy a BenQ SW series monitor. Can it be calibrated with any calibration device with its native software or only with the palatte master elements that comes with the milonitor as a bundle. I already have a colormunky display. Please help.
Tried to calibrate my Benq with the palette master but their instructions are terrible. Ended up with everything going almost black. In the end l just went back to basic calibration with the Spyder pro &without the extra USB cable they say you need for calibration (which is a pain) but having watched this l might give palette master another go.
I was told to Calibrate srgb only Because all screens cannot read Adobe SRGB… also wouldn’t you need a 10bit Graphics card to run Adobe srgb? from Lightroom to Photoshop then saving it as a JPEG theres a color shift when using Adobe SRGB
Just got the SW270C, while the monitor is nice the palette Master software is the worst program in the world ! I still can not calibrate mine with i1display pro plus all I get once it starts the calibration is a blank white screen so I have to restart the pc to get rid of it. I've tried every type of cable to connect my graphics card to the monitor and it still crashes. The i1display pro plus works fine with its own software, I might as well take the monitor back and just use my old ones and calibrate them with the i1display. Very disappointed in the benq software.
Just a comment on the hood port for the sensor, ideally you plug the sensor directly into the monitor's USB port which not only gives a more stable connection for calibration, but allows you to pass the cable up through the door rather than trying to hammer your sensor down through it. I hope this helps!
Would it be better to turn on one monitor and calibrate it then turn it off, turn on second monitor and calibrate that one. Then turn both on all calibrated.
I wonder if only the NVidia settings change (to match Windows) is what mattered, and you could have skipped all of the uninstall/reinstall business? That certainly would have been quicker!
I have a problem with the BenQ SW271c: I dont get the use of the different color modes: When I change from AdobeRGB mode to sRGB the colors get completely desaturated in the same way as when I assign the Adobe Colorspace to an sRGB Picture in Photoshop. I don't think that is the way it is supposed to be, or, if it is, then cant see how this feature wouldnt be 100% useless. I have the same problem with the custom calibration, so I'm about to send the monitor back. Does anyone have any insight?
@@carlb401 Thanks for the reply, but I'm very sure that that was not the problem. Calibrating shouldn't mess up your image completely nor should it change your image extremely if you start out with a good quality monitor. It should just tweak the colors subtlely, so that they are totally exact. Especially, a calibrated image in sRGB shouldn't look like an sRGB image viewed in AdobeRGB without transformation. I've long returned the monitor by the way.
@@everythingbenny Unfortunately it was an issue with the back light, I had to send the tablet back for repair. Pretty annoying since I've only had it for a few months at that point. I've decided to just get an Intuos and buy a monitor for digital art instead, less stress.
it has nothing to do with if its a mac or pc ...its the PME the problem..too many bugs! i have pc&mac and i can tell you that you will get problems with PME on both:)
This may sound simple but it should work for you. Turn off the PC and simply reverse your cables on the video cards. I have an Nvidia RTX 2080 card using Display ports. I tried it and it works. I just received an early release of the new SW321c 32 monitor to review from BenQ. Here is the video of the unboxing. th-cam.com/video/vVgfWe0U_8Q/w-d-xo.html I think this will solve your problem. I will be doing the review soon and include this tidbit in the video. All the best. Rusty

I might setup the third custon calibration for 80 so I can switch between them depending on what the work output is.

It's both palette master and windows that are buggy. Or maybe it's the usb-c/display port controllers

As a newbie, what is the purpose of 2 monitors?
It's mostly for video editing, I can have the timeline and effects on one monitor and a full screen playback on the other.

BenQ SW270C save calibration settings in the monitor chip, so if you plugin different PC or laptop you will have proper colors.
also you plugin i1Display calibrator directly to the monitor and not your computer
Can I calibrate through computer or monitor? Mean Can I plug X1 in computer or monitor?

It's because there are less colours in sRGB compared to RGB, so you will see a less vibrant image on screen.
