  • Prickly pear cactus offers a juicy fruit called a tuna. The juice can be made for jellies, candy, and drinks just to name a few. This video will show you how to harvest and process the prickly pear tuna to extract the juice.
There's a few ways to go about processing the prickly pear tuna. The method in the video is my preferred and cheaper method.
My camera view got wonky at times. I apologize!

Thank you for sharing the process, but please keep the camera still (barf bag needed after). Can’t keep my eyes on the video and missed a-lot of helpful hints. Thank you again.

Wait so you rinse them then dump them on the dirty ground?

He rinsed them to blast off the thorns, the skin of the prickly pear fruit has a lot of tiny hairlike thorns that need to be removed. Blasting them with water, heating them up, skinning them, etc.

Prickly pear are notoriously promiscuous. That is, they cross breed regularly. This appears to have the traits of Opuntia englemannii or perhaps a bit of Opuntia phaeacantha, both native to the Sonoran desert.

There’s really no other way than to use a bunch of water in the desert?

Do you honestly expect a whole Hollywood crew for a self made youtube video?
