    1) Marie Curie (1867-1934)
    Polish-born physicist and chemist, Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and remains the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields (Physics and Chemistry). Her pioneering research on radioactivity paved the way for groundbreaking developments in science and medicine.

    2) Rosa Parks (1913-2005)
    An African-American civil rights activist, Rosa Parks is best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. By refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus, Parks became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.
    Pivotal = crucial, important
    3) Malala Yousafzai (b. 1997)
    A Pakistani activist for female education, Malala Yousafzai survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban at the age of 15. She is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, recognized for her struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.

    4) Amelia Earhart (1897-1937)
    An American aviation pioneer and author, Amelia Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Her daring flights and attempt to circumnavigate the globe represent her fearless pursuit of adventure and equality.

    5) Frida Kahlo (1907-1954)
    A Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artefacts of Mexico. Her art explores questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.

    6) Angela Merkel (b. 1954)
    A German politician and scientist, Angela Merkel served as the Chancellor of Germany from 2005 to 2021. She is the first woman to ever hold the office, and her leadership has been marked by pragmatism, resilience, and a commitment to European unity.

    7) Serena Williams (b. 1981)
    An American professional tennis player, Serena Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time. Her strength, skill, and persistence have made her one of the greatest athletes of all time.

    8) Wangari Maathai (1940-2011)
    A Kenyan environmental political activist and Nobel laureate, Wangari Maathai was the founder of the Green Belt Movement, an environmental non-governmental organization focused on the planting of trees, environmental conservation, and women's rights.

    9) Mother Teresa (1910-1997)
    An Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary, Mother Teresa was known for her charitable work with the poor in Kolkata, India. She was canonized as a saint in the Catholic Church for her compassion and dedication to the needy.

    10) Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986)
    A French writer, intellectual, existentialist philosopher, political activist, feminist, and social theorist, Simone de Beauvoir is best known for her written work The Second Sex (1949), a detailed analysis of women's oppression and a foundational tract of contemporary feminism.

    These women have left marks on the world, inspiring countless others to follow in their footsteps and continue the fight for equality, justice, and innovation.
