- I reconstructed one of my favorite scenes from The Exorcist, Trip to Washington/Regan's Birthday Trip.
The newly discovered missing footage has a length of 18 minutes and I cut it down to 4 minutes.
Background music is from the movie, The Haunting of Julia, a poignant theme by Colin Towns that I absolutely love.
Subtitles were also added to Chris and Regan's exchange at the end and car driving sounds.
Chris and Regan's dialogue at the very end about getting a pizza and opening presents wasn't mentioned in the novel, I made it up. ; )
Thanks to whoever uncovered these missing footage reels and sent them to Paul Davis.

A sweet mother and daughter moment from my favorite film set to the soundtrack of my second favorite movie. How nice!❤

❤
Linda Blair was just such a natural in front of the camera!
She should gotten and Oscar for this movie❤❤❤just saying
i like that scene when they go sightseeing
This is very important ... Becouse you see that Regan was just a sweet normal child just doing her things in live ... But in that house in a normal street , upstairs in that bedroom she's getting possessed by the devil
The Exorcist is my top favorite film. My only beef with it is that we don't get to see Regan like this enough, as a normal child. I think it would have made the audience have more sympathy for her when the possession set in.
I agree and it shows the close bond Regan had with her mother, the calm before the storm so do speak.
@@sagdragon64 i dont understand , why they deleted this scene from the final cut of the movie ?
That's great!! I love how you made a great montage of the deleted scene footage! And I like the music choice that carries the scenes beautifully! Good job!
Thanks Elza! ❣Love more peaceful moments between Chris and Rags
Wow. I took a pic in that same chair Regan is in when I went to Washington.
Wish this had been included in the movie
So do I!
Blair was GREAT as Regan
I finally understand this movie. All the money and independence and secure institutions in the world can't address a spiritual dilemma. Friedkin and Blatty are are geniuses.
Beautiful scene showing Mother and Daughter bonding. Why delete it? 51 years ago. I was 9 years old, was not allowed to watch the movie until years later.
Good for your parents, @ernestgamez9794. 😮
regan is a sweet girl
The car runs on pea soup unleaded, the original green energy.
I like to think that if this scene had remained in the movie it would have guaranteed Linda's lock on the Oscar and the sabotage of Dietz and McCambridge wouldn't have affected it. But what do I know?
It could be! Maybe if Linda had cried during Chris and Regan's conversation.. as Regan cried in the book.
Even if this music was in this footage, I would have been satisfied. Friedkin was stupid for deleting it.
Of course you know + of cinema than he does.
Understable the cut. The last scene specially shows how tall is Regan for 12. She was really 15
i dont understand , why they deleted this scene from the final cut of the movie ?
@@kralhakas Had to do only with the film running time. Friedkin felt that audiences would not be able to endure a film longer than 2 hours. Linda was 13 years old when the Trip to Washington scene was shot.

@@SofRegina well , i think this scene it should be in the movie , other movies are bigger than 2 hours like Braveheart 2h 58m , and it was a great movie
i like chris and regan what about you
Is this the soundtrack to Beyond the Door? That is my fave Exorcist rip off.
Hi, no. This is the soundtrack to Haunting of Julia (1977)
Oh, great! I'm a huge fan of Juliet Mills. Some of my favorite 'Exorcist rip offs' are Audrey Rose, The Cursed Medallion, Cathy's Curse, Bewitched Child (1975),.. even the Turkish remake of the Exorcist, haaaa
@@SofRegina The Haunting of Julia is an excellent little ghost story. Another fun Exorcist rip off is House of Exorcism/Lisa and the Devil.
@@johnyzero2000 I've seen parts of Lisa and wasn't enjoying it much. ; ) It lacks a creepy lil girl/child protagonist, which is a requirement for me ahaha.
@@SofRegina L'anticristo 1974 is another good one
It's a shame. They could n't find the sound. It would of been good. Even with the music in the background. See a mother and daughter moment. Without work. Or even the demon.
I added audio to their exchange. Check out the video, Deleted Birthday scene - With Voiceover : )
It's too close to Family Ties or The Waltons or The Little House On The Prairie or even Silent Running, that's why it was cut.
Those tv shows you mentioned have been my favorites since childhood, 😅and Little House can be a very dark show at times.
I can see why Regan's Birthday Trip scene would slow the movie down and be better suited in a tv series adaptation of Blatty's book. It's a powerful scene in the novel, it adds more depth to Chris and Regan as we learn that Regan can sense Chris's thoughts without her putting them into words, and for the first time we see a change in Regan's disposition.
@@SofRegina Michael Landon was a Satanist and some of his ideas for the show came from demons that`s why it`s "very dark at times."
@@jack2breeze I heard stuff like this 😬
I couldn't find another spot to write you, but wanted to let you know that I had to remove that one request video on my channel. I've been trying to clean up my channel since this platform decided to take away my advanced features. I'm very sad about it and I'm sorry. :(
Aaw, sorry Rachel! Thanks for telling me.
@@SofRegina That scene she was in was from episode 632 so at least now you have that. :)
@@ShadowsofthePastTheater I forgot to tell you, I managed to find all the dvd rips of Dark Shadows! : D
@@SofRegina Awesome!
Ya veo porque la quitaron,no tiene nada que ver con la película,es como si fuera un video subido en TH-cam
Even though I love this scene.. fue una escena mais poderosa no livro. A versão do filme realmente no le hizo justicia.
lets go to hawaii with the macneil family
So creepy knowing what film it is

I wrote the name in the description.. Music theme by Colin Towns.
The reason this scene was cut was because studio executives forced the director to cut 20 minutes from the film. They felt the movie was too shocking for anyone to sit through it for more than two hours. This is a great scene that would have given the film more depth if it had been left in--especially the part where Regan asks her mother why do people have to die.The director and writer of this film both loved this scene and wanted to put it back in.Unfortunately the audio for this scene was lost. The workprint version of this film was 20 minutes longer and was far superior to the theatrical cut.Even the extended cut isn't as good as the workprint version.Unfortunately the original negative and audio was lost for many of the cut scenes. In the theatrical cut of the film the possession happens too quickly and in my opinion is no masterpiece of a film.William Peter Blatty who wrote it never liked the theatrical cut either.
I've always wanted at least a 5 hour miniseries version of Blatty's novel. Which is what I'm trying to accomplish with my Sims 4 adaptation. :3 I agree, my favorite scenes are the early scenes of normal-Regan and in the film, the cuts from those scenes to the next scene happen too quickly. I made a fan edit in which I “extended” these scenes. I disagree that Friedkin's film is no masterpiece. The atmosphere is perfect, chilling and ominous, excellent cinematography, there is a slow character development - although I wish for an even slower pace, it is much better than most horror movies' character development. And so on..
@@SofReginaI agree there are some excellent things about the film like special effects, atmosphere, acting and photography but in my mind it is still not a masterpiece. The first half of Friedkin's theatrical cut is very dry, shallow and poorly structured.Friedkin's cutting of twenty minutes created these flaws in the film. There is no gradual onset of Regan's possession in the first half of the film.Regan asks her mother what is wrong with her and her mother says it nerves just like the doctor said. What doctor? The first doctor scene is not in the theatrical cut.Regan urinates on the carpet, her bed shakes and she is strapped to her bed looking like a monster.Absolutely ridiculous that it would happen so fast.I have the original screenplay of the workprint version of the film.So many interesting scenes that were cut. It's unbelievable how much better the original cut of the movie was.The workprint version was a masterpiece--not the the overrated theatrical cut.William Peter Blatty hated the theatrical cut and was furious with Friedkin for butchering the original cut.Thankfully, they were able to put some of the cut scenes back into the extended cut.I'm glad I have a copy of the book in my possession. In my opinion the book is far superior to the theatrical and extended cuts of the film.
@@loren7551 Yep, many years ago I uploaded my Exorcist collection on here and I have Blatty's book, From Novel to Film which features his first draft screenplay. As he mentioned, the original theatrical version ran almost 3 hours. Film studio executive and producer John Calley was the one who suggested Fredkin to delete many scenes. At first he was taken aback, but eventually agreed. I blame John Calley ; ) for deleting the more gradual onset scenes.
Sure the novel is superior, as is the case with most books and I used to sound like you first time I read Blatty's book.. However, to each their own. For me, no matter which version of the film is shown, it will always be a masterpiece.
